Cambodia has successfully dusted itself off from the ravages of war with its colourful capital of Phnom Penh rising from the ashes and sparkling once more. This fascinating city, on the banks of the Mekong River, features exotic markets, cultural jewels and is home to some of the friendliest people on earth.
A visit to the National Museum captures a slice of Cambodia’s ancient Khmer history and art. A different and more recent history suffocates and overwhelms visitors to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the former prison of the Khmer Rouge, and The Killing Fields are a short drive from the capital.
The Royal Palace is a striking centrepiece in the centre of Phnom Penh, and is home to the Emerald Buddha and Silver Pagoda. Not far away is the Cambodian Independence Monument that celebrates Cambodia’s sovereignty.
You can satisfy your hunger pains with delicious French-Indochina-inspired meals at various street stalls or classy restaurants. The riverside area has the Art Deco Central Market for a great bargain and there are a variety of bars, especially near Sisowath Quay.
Take time to walk around the French colonial streets with its mix of slow-moving monks and speedy motorbikes. Booking.com has many hotels located in Daun Penh and Chamkar Mon districts, amongst others.
Phnom Penh is a bustling Asian city. So much traffic and vibrancy. The city itself is safe. Culturally there's a lot to see and experience. There's a wide variety of hotels to choose from, from budget options to 5 star luxury. Travelling around the city on a tuk tuk is a great experience. You can usually negotiate for the driver to drive you around for the day for around $15. Four people can comfortably fit in one tuk tuk. 5-6 is a squeeze.
Most restaurants serve Asian food on their menus, but over the years more and more western food restaurants are emerging. There's some great cafe's with really good coffee.
Don't drink the tap water, just stick with bottled water.
The markets are great. The most popular being the Central Market and the Russian Market.
Cambodia's history has incredible tragedy in its recent past. There are museums and tourist destinations highliting this history, which for some people can be incredibly overwhelming and upsetting. I would say that it's something everyone should visit, but they are very confronting and some people that I have travelled with took a few days to process what they saw.
One thing that always amazes me that Cambodian people are so friendly and warm in the light of their tragic past.

Everything was fastastic, but for the museum/ prison where people were maltreated and killed in the 70s. The scenario was very inhuman and pathetic.
I visited the temples, markets and the museums.

Phnom Penh is a great city, lovely temples, royal palace and national museum are all a must see,Lots of great eateries around either more formal restaurants or street food. The city is very easy to get around by tuk-tuk, just download one of the apps like grab to book.
A must see is S-21 prison and the killing fields genocide memorial on the outskirts, very sombre and shocking places to visit, but everyone should know want went on under Pol Pot.

If you are visiting Cambodia you can definitely skip Phnom Penh. As with many international flights we did not have great connections to get to Koh Rong Samleom or Siem Reap. Had a long layover here. Not much to see unless you are interested in visiting the Genocide Museum.

The Mekong river was a cool spot.
The Mekong river was a cool spot.
The AEON malls were good with plenty of choices to have a meal.
Very easy and cheap to get around in the local Tuktuks.
Avoid walking on the streets because there is no space on the footpaths.
Arriving in Cambodia for the first time, I desired a soft and comfortable landing. It surely was. A tropical oasis in the centre of town. I was very impressed with the pools and gardens and the absense of city noise. I had no idea I was in the centre of a big busy city. The staff are very friendly and treated me like royalty. My room had much natural light and was very cool even witout the ac on, probably due to the thick walls and many double glass windows. Whenever I need to stay in PP, I will definitely consider the Pavilion.
The absolut best place to stay in Phnom Penh. It‘s a green oasis right next to the Royal Palace in a cute street full of little cafes and restaurant. The rooms are gorgeous and clean. The staff is amazing snd helps with everything they can. Breakfast next to the pool is very tasty. And all of this for a very good price! The Jungle Addition belongs together with the Hotel Penh House that is just next door. You can use their stunning rooftop pool and their gym which we gladly did.
This was great value for money. It was the most "luxurious" place I stayed in 3 weeks in Cambodia.
The bed was super comfortable. It was the only "cable TV" that actually worked, showing an English speaking channel or 2! The bathroom was very clean (as was the whole room) and the best bathroom of all the places I stayed.
It was in a good location, surrounded by many great restaurants and I walked to riverside from here in 30 minutes.
Staff were friendly and accommodating.
We loved this hotel so much we used it as a base when travelling around Cambodia. Beautiful hotel right in the heart of PP and favourite throughout our trip through SE Asia. They allowed us to leave some luggage there whilst we visited other parts of the country. All the staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful. We loved the beautiful pool set within the patio garden and restaurant serving the best breakfasts we had throughout our trip.
Fourth visit to Cambodia. This Riverside Hotel is wonderful value and impeccable location. Staff are excellent, service could not be faulted. Indian restaurant serves best Indian cuisine that I've tasted in a long time. Hotel was very clean. And the hotel cat stole my heart. Meow! I loved every detail of my stay. The manager was professional and helpful. Hotel is near everything including night market, all bars shopping and restaurants.
- Amazing breakfast!
- Stuff here is outstanding, helpful in anything and smiling all the time even when welcoming guests for breakfast 6 AM something :)
- Jacuzzi with a city view upstairs
- Security (I wasn't really feeling safe in Phnom Penh traveling solo, but the hotel is being watched/secured/security asking drivers where are they taking the guest really helped a lot)
- Great location near the river embankment
It was my first time in Cambodia. Without knowing much about getting around the city, the hotel manger - Mr. Sonetra - has been super helpful in assisting our stay at Olympia as well as booking transportation. He and his staff are very friendly, attentive, speaks good English, and they follow up on your requests. This hotel is recommended - clean, neat, and very accommodating,
I was very impressed with personalize check in. Speedy check in with the host greeted us personally at the entrance of the building unlike transitional old hotel check in.
The unit is very brand new, fully furnished and warming design. However, it is facing to River Superb view I’ve ever seen!
Definitely my best experience, and will be back to stay again. Highly recommended.
It's location is very good. Heart of City.. Hotel is fabulous.. Staff is very cooperative and supportive.. Rooms are Clean and hygienic.. I like the food there very much .. The food has given the real taste of India.. I love Indian food.. This hotel has good restaurant too.. I will prefer to stay more in this hotel if get another chance to visit the city again..
Good position in front of the National Museum and the Royal Palace. Close to downtown and many restaurants and bars. The rooftop bar of the hotel was very nice in the evening. The breakfast on the 15th floor had quite the view on the city, and the Cambodian carved wood furniture added some charme.
Location wise amazing. Really close to Royal Palace and Riverside Quay. All arrangements can be done from the hotel. Great ambience, great pool and good food. Book without any doubt. Booking from here for the Siem Reap sister property of Hello Cambodia may give 20% discount.
Location in the city centre, well functioning AC, 24h reception, bar and restaurant in the hotel, printing service available (0,25 USD or 1000 KHR per sheet) and laundry (but more expensive than in most places - 1,75 USD per kilogram).
Staff is friendly and helpful. We warmly welcomed with cold drink. The bedroom was peaceful and comfortable. The hotel location is bit far from city centre, but nearby shopping centre, and airport.
They gave us a good room staff very friendly and helpful breakfast was great I would recommend this Hotel for you guys if you plan to come to Phnom Penh here the best location.
