Commonly spelled Fez, this city was Morocco’s capital during Middle Ages. The city was originally composed of two separate settlements located along the banks of the Jawhar River. Madinat Fas was founded in 789 by Idris I, while Al-'Aliya was founded by his son Idris II. Both towns grew autonomously until the Almoravids unified them in 1070 under the name ‘Fas’. The city is still considered a beacon of the Islamic civilisation, due to its ancient ‘madrasas’ Islamic colleges.
The Old Town or ‘medina’ has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, representing one of the best preserved historic centres in the world. The famous ‘riads’ or small traditional hotels are located in the medina, which is also called Fes Al-Bali.
The city can be reached through Fès Saïss Airport, or from the airports in Casablanca and Rabat via railway or bus connection. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Fez New Town or a historic ‘riad’ in the medina, don’t miss Booking.com’s wide offering!

Fez is good just for a day and it’s good to go to chefchouien from there for a day trip. Be careful of the people who take you to the tanneries and local outlets where they overcharge for stuff. The Medina has lots of shops having cheaper stuff of similar quality so better to check in different places before buying. Food is very good everywhere. Taxis are cheap. Place is very safe.

just dont. Morocco has a lot more good cities to spent time.
just dont. Morocco has a lot more good cities to spent time. If you really want to see then 1 day would be plenty but for me even this duration might be too long. In this city you always need to be on your toes or else you are an easy target for people who wants to just squeze money out of you

The Medina and its surrounds are very charming to look at from a rooftop, however to be quite honest, spending time walking endlessly in the narrow and enclosed space felt quite oppressive. We weren’t interested in buying anything and it was a bit of an assault to see the endless offerings of basically the same things. The merchants looked resigned to their fate and the energy of the place just didn’t feel great. Kind of depressing.

Fez is a beautifull city with a gorgeous old medina.
Fez is a beautifull city with a gorgeous old medina. We didn't use a guide but google maps and it worked just fine for the main roads. But if you stay near the old medina and need to go somewhere via the narrow alleyways you can get lost easily! It's a maze where everything looks the same.
The people are mostly friendly but they will try their best to get you in their shop or restaurant which can be frustrating. But just say no respectfully and most of the time they will leave you alone.
Don't listen to people who are saying things are closed, like the doors of the medina or places during prayer time. Its not true and they only do say that to get you to another place.
After all its a beautifull place, but with sometimes frustrating locals, but they just want to make money and I understand that.

I would not recommend this city.
I would not recommend this city.
I liked the place where I stayed - the host was very nice.
But the city itself is cahotic and overwelming… a lot of harassement, a lot of con people trying to get money from you, lots of drug dealers in the street pretending to be your friend just to force you to buy from them, you cant look around to the shops because someone always wants to force you to buy something. I am an extrovert and this city was too much for me. I think I never got so scammed so fast and so aware of it all my life.
It smells miserable and it is very dirty - I don’t you are ready for the smell of the tanneries…
Almost no music anywhere, mostly just praying on megafones 5x a day.
We did manage to find some truly kind people, but the rate of those vs. the ones who just wanted money from us/to sell their services, was too much! Be sure you book a place with a nice host to help you navigate throught these situations and emotions…

Fes is an incredible city.
Fes is an incredible city. So much history and such friendly people. The sellers in the medina were keen to sell us anything and everything but weren't very pushy and took a polite "non merci" for an answer.
Lots of lovely cafes and restaurants. We liked Cinema cafe, Clock cafe and the Ruined garden restaurant. Cafe Nos Nos served really good coffee. Great temperature for January. Not too hot for walking about but warm enough to sit outside and eat.
Amazing history too, The world's oldest university and library are in the medina.
We did several day trips to Meknes, Volubilis and Chefchaouen.
A trip to the American Fondouk was interesting to see the work of the charity with local working equines.
Lots of walking but also easy to take a petit taxi when tired.
Our Riad was just amazing and we will be back as soon as we can.
This was the first Riad that I visited in Morocco. My room was so beautiful. It was at the top, so it required climbing stairs. I was rewarded for the effort as my room had a private outdoor terrace. The hostess, Hajar, was very kind and helpful. She served a very nice breakfast, which I appreciated as visiting Fes involved a lot of walking! It is on a quiet street, and in a couple of minutes, I could be out of the Riad and into the medina. I definitely would like to return here someday!
Everything. This is by far one of the best places we have stayed in in our trip to Morocco. The hotel feels like a Palace, the room we stayed in was beyond beautiful and the Bed was incredibly comfy. The rooftop views were everything we needed to compliment the medina experience, and the sunrise breakfast was marvelous. All the food was exceptional, and Nor, Aiman and Hassan were really nice and caring.
The best stay in Fes, 100% recommended.
We staid just for one night and had to leave in the middle of the night to catch our flight but could not have enjoyed our stay more. Wonderful hosts which could not be more kind and did everything to make our stay perfect. We also enjoyed one of the best meals we had in Morocco in their restaurant. Would come back for sure next time in Fes.
Location is perfect, easy access by car and just a short walk into the heart of the medina.
Really great location in the old Medina in Fes in a restored historic home. Breakfast was very nice and dinner was good as well! Violeta was friendly and interesting to talk to. She even packed us snacks because we had to leave early and could t stay for breakfast. Very hospitable. She also arranged for a tour guide of the Medina. Her name was Fatima and she was fabulous. The best guided tour we had in Morocco! Ask for her.
We had a great time at Riad Fes Elite and our room was very clean and the daily breakfast was delicious and tasty.
I highly recommend this Riad for those who want to be few steps away from the old medina (via Bab Rcif)
Thanks alot for Nofal (hotel staff) for your kindness, pleasant reception and welcoming with delightful Moroccan tea and cookies. Thanks also for helping us during our visit in fes - really appreciated..
Everyone at the property was very hospitable and friendly. This was our first trip to Morocco, and they helped us with booking our taxi to/from the airport, trip to Chefchaouen, and guided tour of Fez. They’re extremely trust-worthy and have greatly elevated the quality of our time here. Stay at Dar Hafsa if you want to have a worry-free and pleasant travel and hotel experience. I couldn’t recommend more.
This is the most amazing riad we stayed in Morocco, every part was beautifully decorated, and our king suite was very beautiful with a huge bathroom. We also had dinner at the riad and it was one of the best dinners we had in Morocco, definitely worth it! The location was also perfect, inside the Medina but at the edge of it, so no risk of getting lost but also close to the main road to take a taxi.
The location of the hotel is top. The friendliness of the staff is excellent, if you need anything they will help you. Breakfast in the hostel is varied and very good. They also offer dinner. It's local and delicious. There is a view of the Medina from the balconies. The rooms are satisfactory for travelers who are not demanding. I recommend it to those who plan to visit Fes.
Great hospitality of all the staff and the owner. The house is located in a quiet area but in the heart of Medina, and still easy to find from the guidance. Shower was great, Breakfast was excellent and probably the best I have tasted among all the Riad stays i had in Morocco:). Will definitely come back here if I cross Fes again. Highly recommended!
Imane, Mohammed and all the staff members at this hotel are amazing. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a good stay. The hotel is beautiful and comfortable, and the breakfast and dinner are delicious! We travelled around Morocco and Dar Fes Medina was the best hotel that we had stayed in by far! We wish we could have stayed longer! 10/10
Very helpful staff. Excellent location and the rooftop view is breathtaking. Not so many of them in Fes, Medina, so it's worth any extra penny to pay for it. The best thing is, that if you travel through Morocco in winter, they provide heaters or air-conditioned rooms. Quite crucial for usually cold nights in here. We will definitely be back....
Our stay and the Riad Drissia was the most pleasant. Khalid and his family were very nice, helpful and welcoming.
The Riad is located in a sweet spot near most touristic attractions in the Medina.
We had dinner there on our last day in Fes, and it was the best meal we’ve had.
I’d recommend Riad Drissia to anyone travelling to Fes.
Location is the best: only three minutes walk to Bab Boujloud, main access to the medina of Fez. You will never get lost. Enjoying one or two nights in the Moroccan Riad is a worthy experience. The host is a very friendly and helpful. The local welcoming mint tea is impressed, Breakfast is good. Highly recommended.
Actually to be honest the best experience I had in my life in Moroccow and that place I stay with Nabil he's so kind. He give us lot of information about Fes Medina also he show us best places to eat I really hope to come back again and I can recommend that place for everyone
Great staff! Everyone very helpful, they even helped us finding spots to charge our eletric car in Morocco, explained where to find good parking in Fès and provided us with a map of the city with the best places to visit and how to get around the medina.
Traditional architecture with beautiful interior design that showcase Morocco style architecture. Good breakfast and service with a smile. Great location within Medina of Fes with many good eateries around.
The Riad is beautiful, the staff is wonderful, friendly, and attentive. The owners welcomed us like family. The food was the best we've had in Morocco. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Fes if we come back.
Beautiful little hotel just off the main road into Fes. The staff was warm and welcoming and we enjoyed retreating back to the hotel and the large pool after visiting the Medina.
Best location for visiting the old medina of Fes
Amazing service and care from the hosts at the hotel.
Wi fi perfect.
Really lovely people and place.
