Cambridge is an easy, safe and picturesque place to walk...
Cambridge is an easy, safe and picturesque place to walk around. The streets are clean, the parks are beautifully maintained and there is stunning historic architecture, as well as quaint shops and eateries everywhere. We particularly enjoyed seeing the beautiful Memorial Hall. It's a pity visitors can't look inside, into the Annenberg Hall dining area, but we appreciate that the Harvard students may not like an audience whilst eating : ). The Harvard University of Natural History is fantastic and the Glass Flowers exhibit is a must-see! Being a rower, I enjoyed seeing the beautiful Weld Boathouse and Newell Boathouse and watching crews row up and down the Charles River. If you love books, The COOP bookstore is well worth a visit and if you enjoy ice-cream, I would highly recommend getting a Taiyaki (Japanese ice-cream) from Taiyaki NYC in Church Street. The ramen at Boston Ramen at 24 Holyoke Street was delicious and I would highly recommend grabbing a waffle and coffee from the food truck parked in the Harvard Science Center Plaza. If you're going into Boston, I would highly recommend the Boston Tea Party Ships and museum experience (an excellent interactive, re enactment experience), having a ride on the beautiful Greenway Carousel and walking through the Boston Common, seeing the 'Make way for ducks' statue and, for the 'Cheers' tv series fans, visiting the Cheers bar.

Comfy room, clean and modern with friendly staff.
Comfy room, clean and modern with friendly staff. Booked in advance, was quoted $186 tax included. But, at check-in I was notified that it cost $25 per day, per parking spot and a $75 fee that would be returned (5 to 7 days) after checkout. Plus they wanted $20 per person for breakfast. Total: $326 for 2 people for one night. Nice place, but won't spend that to stay there again.

It's in a good location for Cambridge, and even not far from Boston amenities. It is NOT right near Harvard campus, though, if that's what you're looking for ... but not far.
The facility is fine - an inn, not a hotel, but with room amenities of a hotel.

If you walk to Harvard, you can enjoy watching red leaves on the way.
As Harvard square is a walking distance, shopping, sightseeing and joining conference are very convenient. You can enjoy Continental and sophisticated atmosphere because the University of Harvard is very near.

Cambridge is much nicer than Boston, and the Harvard Campus is wonderful to walk around, with big trees and lots of open spaces. There are good restaurants too - we really enjoyed The Druid Irish pub. There is also a lot to see and do. Two days was too short to go to everything we wanted to visit.

Excellent hotel, comfortable rooms, with a beautiful view.
Excellent hotel, comfortable rooms, with a beautiful view. The area is very safe and quiet, relatively close to the center and the airport. The indoor pool is very nice. There is a coffee shop on the first floor that sells Starbucks products. The rooms with very comfortable beds, excellent coffee as well as a spacious safe. Excellent hotel.
Well positioned hotel just across from the Porter Sq T stop on red line. Very clean and staff welcoming and efficient. Room well equipped with plenty of free water and coffee available plus ice machine in the basement. Bed was large and comfortable and bathroom well equipped with good shower. Hotel was good value in a city of crazy hotel prices and it was really simple to travel into central Boston on the T. Good choice of bars and restaurants in the area (Shine Sq Bar best value and friendliest that we found). Overall a comfortable stay
Marc was an excellent host, super friendly, and always ready to help. There was a diverse sort of food and drinks available for breakfast and on top of that, Chef Marc cooked delicious food every day for his guests. The house has a very quiet environment and an excellent location at 15 mins walk from MIT. There are also close subway stations and blue bike docks to facilitate commuting to Boston or Harvard. Good value for money when compared to most of the hotels in Cambridge / Boston. Would stay again!
Location was very convenient for my stay, safe neighborhood, dining, grocer and entertainment nearby, T subway station only a few blocks away. Was last minute trip and the price and value was the best find that I was thankful to get in an otherwise jaw-dropping high-cost Boston lodging market. I arrived on a very late flight, office was closed, but staff was friendly and accommodating and they kept late arrival arrangements made in advance, no fuss. Plenty of towels, toiletries. Great hot water.
Hotel 1868 is really great! It's right opposite the Porter metro station and there are plenty of restaurants nearby (towards Harvard or Davis Sq). The staff were young and really friendly. My room was fantastic: spacious and modern with an enclosed balcony type window over the street. The bathroom was above average and the bed was comfortable. There was a desk for working and the WiFi was fast. A great stay.
The location - near Harvard - was super. I stayed a couple of nights while using Harvard's library and it was perfect. Like the ability to make coffee or tea in a little shared kitchen area. Hosts were good about where the small nearby grocery was, and there was a small fridge in my room. There's also a Starbucks nearby. Friendly place - reminds me of British b&b's.
Breakfast was good, with waffles, scrambled eggs and some fresh fruit (but nothing fancy). The location is convenient to both Cambridge (MIT, Harvard square) and Boston. A few blue bikes stations nearby and plenty of cafes around. The room was clean and everything seems to be new/refreshed. Garage is very conveniently located real close (but not in the same building).
Main reason for visiting Boston was Boston Marathon. Hotel is located in Cambridge, very closed to Boston city center.
Subway is in front of the hotel. A big supermarket is nearby hotel.
Room was very large with fridge and coffee maker. Room was cleaned daily. I have nothing to complain to the hotel, location or staff.
A charming, little hotel in a Victorian house. It’s very quiet and close to Harvard square. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. Friendly staff, especially the lady. No breakfast, but there was tea and coffee, and a kitchen in the basement for making your own meal. Would absolutely come back. Good value.
The front desk staff was very hospitable and welcoming. They did their best to accommodate us while moving my daughter into her dorm at Harvard. If you are looking to be close to campus there is nowhere better in Cambridge. We did not use a car but the parking area felt very safe and our room was nice and spacious.
It was all very modern, super clean and in the best way functional. Porter Sq is a great square to start exploring Cambridge and Boston. But my personal favorite is Davis Sq in Somerville, just a 15 min walk away, or one T stop.
Location, location, location - this hotel was ideal for a weekend spent wandering Boston/Cambridge. The rooms were comfortable, and staff worked with me to ensure there was no febreze used in cleaning prior to check-in.
Lovely experience at the Sonesta Boston. The personnel was really nice. We loved the location of the hotel alongside the Charles River. We also appreciated the pool a lot and the view from the room was stunning!
Very friendly and efficient staff. Nice room and ensuite bathroom. Good location for visiting the Boston area - we walked a lot. Several good places to eat nearby. I'd recommend this hotel.
Cool looking, up to date, close to whole foods and trader joes. Well located in near charming Cambridge. Running and walking distance from Charles River.
