It was a very pretty village/ Town in the mountains.
It was a very pretty village/ Town in the mountains. Suitable for walkers with lovely cafe's and restaurants and useful supply base before starting the camino. Local people were very friendly and quirky as well. It is full of character and history.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

It’s beautiful little town in a beautiful setting.

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

Excellent & very comfortable place for a pre-Camino stay. Host very nice & I enjoyed the pilgrim’s blessings. Meditation/yoga room was a pleasant surprise.
Breakfast more robust that most albergues with fruit, yoghurt & small egg crepes.
Dormitory had only single beds, NO bunks, which was an added plus.
I would definitely recommend this Gite/Albergue before heading off on the rigorous first Camino days!
Very large sunny room with kitchenette on the second floor. The room was clean and well supplied with towels, hair dryer. The hotel is centrally located across from the Citadelle and near quite a few fine restaurants. Pantxika got us settled in and was very tolerant of my high school French.
It is one of the first accomodations as you Leave the train station just before the old city walls.
Owner was very friendly and organized. There are no kitchen facilities but many restaurants nearby and a great grocery store very close.
I had never stayed in an Albergue before so didn’t know what to expect. It was exceptionally clean. Everything had been thought about - able to safely charge phones etc. clothes washing facilities were good.
Property well located if one's walking EL Camino.Fabulous accommodation. Comfortable beds and lovely breakfast.
Katherine our host was such a beautiful and helpful person. Highly recommend
The albergue is beautiful, the host is great, there are shelves and outlets for each bed, the bathrooms are clean, breakfast was simple but nice, and you’re already 1km into your Camino!
Good location and a good price if you’re wanting a last night of peace before beginning on the Camino Francés. It was very quiet when we were there and we slept beautifully.
very peaceful, quiet sleep, comfortable beds. The hotel is right in the center, but completely quiet. very pleasant staff. we will definitely use it again in the future.
This was our second time staying at this location and we loved it both times. Staff is very helpful and friendly. A perfect spot to be starting the Camino Frances.
Amazing place to stay - the people, the accommodation & the food! Would most definitely stay here again should I ever manage to return to this beautiful place 💚
