Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.
Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

Great venue for a weekend away - you can walk everywhere (steep slope up to the Castle andCathedral). The Cathedral is stunning and the Castle worth the trip on it's own. The £16 ticket seemed a lot, but it was well worth it. A guided tour outside, a walk with audio set around the castle walls, a visit to the old prison and, to cap it all, to see the Magna Carta (one of the four existing copies in existence).
With the cafe on site we spent a very full morning seeing everything - allow 4 hours to do it justice.

Lincoln is an underrated city - it has an amazing Cathedral and Castle, which are well worth a visit. Steep Hill is only for the fit, but worth it if you can. Lovely small shops and cafés line the route, so you can have a break if you wish. Also, you can visit free of charge art galleries like the Usher Gallery (Turner paintings). The people of Lincolnshire are very friendly and this is why I live here!

Good Things:
Staff were very nice and helpful.
Location was great, close to lots of places.
Bad Things:
No slippers in room even though I asked for them.
Breakfast was not good, not enough food.
Bathroom and toilet were too small
The staff were really friendly, but there were some problems too. I asked for slippers but never got them. The breakfast did not have much choice. And the bathroom felt cramped because it was so tiny.
The location was convenient at least, making it easy to walk around. Overall an okay stay, but could have been better if the issues with amenities were fixed

Lincoln is a good place to visit with a lot of history to look around. The cathedral area is walkable from the newer centre albeit up Steep Hill which as it's name suggests is tiring but worth it. There is a bus that goes from the bottom end of the city to the cathedral area.

Not too touristy.
Not too touristy. Must-sees are the castle and cathedral, and (if you can manage it) Steep Hill. Plenty of independent shops and restaurants, as well as all the chains on the flat part near the river. City walk (most weekends and free, with donations) really worth doing.
Great location part way up Steep Hill just a few minutes from Castle, Cathedral and Bishops Palace. Staff all very helpful and friendly. Check in at 2 but able to park from 12. We arrived at 12:45 and we're able to get into our room then too. Lovely converted building with beautiful, comfortable rooms. Plenty of tea, coffee and milk provided as well as orange juice. Croissant, jam and yoghurt delivered to room in morning was a nice touch. Would definitely book again of returning to Lincoln
The room was the best one I've had, on this fourth stay! It's all lovely and full of character since the refurbishment. All the history and beauty of Lincoln comes alive here, and the staff being so friendly really makes it!
Breakfast was perfect - a masterpiece of simplicity made truly exceptional by superb local ingredients. I have many hotel breakfasts in my life, but this is now my new point of reference. Thank you White Hart😊
Beautiful period property, fabulous location and views over the Lincoln city and Cathedral and castle.
Literally a couple of minutes stroll and you are in the historic part, and 10 minutes walk, you're in the more modern, lively areas.
Can't recommend this property enough, works so well for exploring Lincoln, parked the car on the first day, and didn't use it again until we reluctantly left to come home.........
Lincoln id not a cheap location, so value for money is what matters, and this hotel does very well. The location is excellent for the vibrant Brayford Pool area. The rooms are generous and well appointed. Good parking on site is fuss free. The Bar & restaurant are pleasant. The staff are friendly and helpful; shoutout to Arina who looked after during breakfast, excellent service.
The room was clean, well appointed, comfortable and warm. Needed to book in at the pub rather than the hotel on arrival.
The pub next door was great for an evening meal, even though we hadn't pre booked. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was not cheap, but was hearty.
For a night away, on the outskirts of Lincoln you could do much worse, we would go again.
All of the staff at the hotel and restaurant were wonderful, very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good and so was our dinner, which we had included in the room rate. There was a lovely outdoor terrace for afternoon tea and pre-dinner drinks. The hotel was located in a pretty village and was only a short drive from Lincoln city centre.
Fantastic hotel right in the heart of Lincoln. A stones throw from the cathedral and a short walk to the many unique shops, bars and eateries. The hotel itself is beautiful with some features inside preserved from its past life as a church...mostly the windows which are stunning. We would definitely stay again.
Parking was easy. A very warm welcome from the staff.
The bar and front garden of the hotel was pleasantly busy with guests
Room was very comfortable.
Breakfast was great.
Location in Lincoln is great for cathedral and castle and the city centre only a walk away.
Felt like really good value for money.
Amazing location we could hear the Cathedral bells and it was a two minute walk to the castle. The place had everything we needed to cook meals and a comfortable bed. The patio was lovely and would have been even better if the weather had cooperated! The parking spot in Lincoln is a huge plus.
Good breakfast menu served in the adjoining pub/carvery by lovely staff who couldn't be more helpful. Hotel staff amazing, room a good size and spotlessly clean. Bed very comfortable. Plenty of parking. Bus into Lincoln city centre available every 20 minutes so saved the hassle of driving.
Nice all round. The receptionist couldn't do enough for us, unfortunately I didn't catch her name. The only issue we had was taxi's no fault of the hotel a little too far out the way if your planning to go on a boozy night round Lincoln must pre book taxi's
Probably the best value hotel near Lincoln situated in fine gardens. The food, including breakfast and dinner, was delicious. But above all the staff were very professional and tended for our requests in a quick, professional and courteous manner.
Breakfast was good despite Covid restrictions and having to have a grab and go breakfast.
The food was good quality and plentiful.
The hotel was not far from the city centre and it was an interesting walk to Lincoln
This was just what I wanted - a compact flat in a central location so I could come to Lincoln, have a few drinks with friends and then have somewhere to stay as I'd not be able to drive home until the next day.
It's an Ibis so expectations were not high. Friendly check-in, clean comfortable room with good shower. Reasonably spacious, but I was on my own. Well situated on the Lincoln ring road so okay for a night.
Hotel really close to the centre of Lincoln, parking available (for a charge), lovely room with great bathroom, comfy beds, good selection for the continental breakfast and friendly/helpful staff.
I especially like the location of the hotel. It is very close to the castle and cathedral. This was my second stay at Castle Hotel, and plan to stay there in the future.
