We were really grateful for the customer service and support we received. The team's performance ( in-front house and catering, housekeeping) is absolutely of a 5 star hotel. Isaman, Dila, Rohitha, Sunil, Prince, were exceptional. We never felt our requests weren't accommodated, even more astonishing that there were times the service preceeded our requests.

-Great location
-Helpful staffs
-The fact that you can see the cathedral from your window
-When the fire alarm went off at 1 am, a staff came upstair to wake everybody up, explain the situation, and apologized right away when it was turned out to be a false alarm. After few hours, a letter delivered to the room apologizing for the fire alarm going off falsely, explaining the reason why it was triggered, and offering a free breakfast as a compensation. The problem-solving process was very swift and transparent, and I was not even annoyed that much because I would rather wake up to the false alarm than die in my sleep because of the fire. Thank you to all the staff members who were working that day.

Heavenly Heritage and Literary Legend
Canterbury’s religious and historic significance has inspired literary greatness. Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ were based on pilgrimages to the bygone shrine of Thomas A Becket, who was murdered here. The Marlowe Theatre is named after the 16th-century playwright born here, and the Canterbury Museum has an exhibit on Rupert Bear, whose author lived in this River Stour city.
River cruises and punting provide fantastic views of the striking weavers’ houses right on the water, and of Westgate - the UK’s largest city gate. Other sections of the city walls remain, and there are also ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey, named after the 6th-century saint who brought Christianity to England. He was the first Archbishop of Canterbury, but the modern-day seat is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral, dating to the 12th century.
From the same period are the Norman castle ruins, occupying the site of a wooden fort constructed by William the Conqueror. The mound they sit on in Dane John Gardens is thought to be a Roman cemetery, and an original mosaic is visible in the Roman Museum.
In the Buttermarket half-timbered houses and historic inns are interspersed with shops, and big name brands line the Whitefriars Shopping Centre. The Canterbury accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap hostels and city centre B&Bs.

We loved exploring the Kent area whilst based in Canterbury. We did 3 x Day trips - to Whitstable, Margate and Ramsgate. Then the White Cliffs of Dover and on our final day did a day trip to Dover Castle.

Beautiful with loads of independent shops.
Beautiful with loads of independent shops. Really beautiful gems around the cathedral. Difficult to find decent parking in town. Public car parks not cheap and can’t vouch for their safety. Most city centre hotels don’t have their own car parks…which is a big problem.

I know Canterbury well as parents have lived in many locations surrounding the area including Reculver, Herne Bay, Seasalter, Whitstable. Not easy to get around from area to close area outside Canterbury using taxis. No taxis from various train stations to various surrounding areas. When travelling with friend in wheel chair it was a nightmare. Could not get any taxis. Luckily we were able to rely on relatively good bus services using disabled free bus passes.

The cathedral was beautiful !
The cathedral was beautiful ! The neighborhood has a lot of walkable streets wear tennis shoes though uneven pavements , very unsafe feeling environment where cycles park. There is limited parking there so you have to park blocks away and pay a premium.

We only stayed one night and saw everything we wanted to...
We only stayed one night and saw everything we wanted to around the city; had we come by car we would have gone further afield and I am sure there were buses but this was deliberately a one night city break and we covered everything by walking.
Local independent shops were good, Corkk for English wines and good coffee shop opposite Burgate Coffee Shop with fantastic cakes. The Parrot and The Dolphin served good food and drinks.
The hosts are wonderful and care about their guests. There are many little extras, like chocolates and filtered water, towel heating racks, tea kettle, fridge, as well as information about the area and dining suggestions. The room was very comfortable. I choose a small twin bed room which is perfect for a solo traveler. The breakfast offered was generous and delicious! I enjoyed eating breakfast in the sun room and watching the goings on at the park across the street. If I return to Canterbury, I will be returning to this property!
This was my wife's favourite place to stay during our break. It was clean. It was also quiet, which impressed me given one evening there was live music in the pub below. By chance, they happened to serve my favourite beer from my student days, and I can assure you I did test it, although not in my student day style.
The Inn is very well placed to explore both Canterbury and the surrounding area, being in walking distance of the town centre, well placed for driving, and very close to one of the railway stations.
The inn is located within easy walking distance to the historic area. It's a quick 6 or 7 minute walk to the Canterbury West train station. Although the inn's front door is always locked, access instructions were easy to follow. The common areas were clean as was the bedroom and bathroom. Everything in the bedroom and bathroom was in good working order. WiFi worked really well. The continental breakfast selection was great with the option to purchase a full English breakfast if desired.
Realising that this was not a hotel, but someone's home, I read the information carefully. It was worthwhile, as it was my first ever Homestay. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The room was very comfortable, with several extras that bettered good hotels. The value for money was excellent. Although it is not in the city centre, it is not far away, and well worth considering strongly for a stay in Canterbury. I would thoroughly recommend it, and will hope to stay there again.
The hotel is in a great location with plenty of parking available. The city centre is within 20 minutes by foot, so it's brilliant to be able to leave the car and enjoy strolling through the old city. Breakfast was great and the staff were very friendly. The room was clean, cozy and spacious with a bathtub included. Good WiFi connection. This hotel will be our first thought whenever we visit Canterbury again.
The location was excellent, right in the centre of Canterbury.
The beds were very comfortable & the rooms were clean. At hotel is well maintained & the reception area welcoming.
The food & beverage team managing the breakfast area were very helpful, looking after one of our party who was gluten intolerant & found us somewhere to sit when the breakfast area was heaving..
The hotel is located just of the main street in a quiet residential area with a beautiful garden at the rear where you can sit out. The rooms were clean, comfy and well stocked, ours had a mini fridge. Breakfast was full english with a buffet of cereals, pastries etc. Just a few minute walk from the centre of Canterbury so perfect.
The hotel is wonderfully situated in the centre of Canterbury. It's a budget hotel and we did not have very high expectations. However, the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Overall, the place feels a little tired but, for one night, it's absolutely fine. Free.e Wifi was a bonus
The location of the hotel is excellent, within a short walk of Canterbury city centre. Parking was easy and free. The gardens are beautiful. Breakfast was excellent and the menu was excellent. The staff were extremely polite and helpful.
We would definitely stay here again.
The hotel is located about 3 miles from Canterbury centre with no bus service. There is however a park and ride at Wincheap for £4/day with very frequent bus service into town centre.
The breakfasts at the hotel are excellent and the dinner menu good value for money.
I love Cathedral Gate Hotel and is my favourite in Canterbury. If you are coming to visit the Cathedral, this is the best and most traditional Hotel. Breakfast is absolutely delicious and the staff takes great care of you. I highly recommend Cathedral Gate Hotel.
Loved the large room. The building is set back from the street and just down the road from the university area so it was quite and peaceful. Easy walk into the center of Canterbury. Lovely garden at the rear and friendly staff.
The property was spotlessly clean and had everything you need for a stay. Lovely decor and lots of tech . Comfy beds and a 1 minute stroll to the centre of Canterbury. Lots of interesting buildings and lots of shops
Setting and sighting of hotel. Ideally located for walking in Canterbury and going further afield if you wanted to discover the local area.
Good choice of breakfast and a nice warm welcome.
Right in the centre of Canterbury, so most sights are within a few minutes walking distance. Room facilities were quite nice, apart from the bed. Friendly staff.
