The location was perfect to visit all the sights on foot. So close to the market, many cafes and reataurants nearby. Close to the metro, though I didn't need to use it. It is a safe area and I felt very comfortable staying there as a lone traveller. Staff and the reception were available at all times, which was really reassuring and helpful for advice and booking a taxi when needed.

First night stayed in a hotel 5 minutes toestiva Quay, riverside restaurants and main town. Dinner at a restaurant behind front line at half the price. Second night (after Douro cruise and stay in Régua and return by train) stayed in a hotel near Compahna station half the price with easy access by train to Porto centre. Preference dependent on your itinerary. Would do it all again.

Viewed all the recommended sites in two days.
Viewed all the recommended sites in two days. Food and drink was good value. Filled the remaining days with Duró Valley Wine trip, Matosinhos and Guimaraes trips.
Local buses and metro were excellent, connecting wherever you stay to the centre or airport.
Next time we won’t stay in the centre because of better value outside and travel in as we need!

We stayed in Porto for 5 days and were very sad to leave.
We stayed in Porto for 5 days and were very sad to leave. While there we took a day trip to the Douro Valley, to visit a winery, and take a short boat ride. The area is gorgeous and well worth visiting. We also enjoyed Museu de Serralves, and Parque de Serralves. The gardens are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. In the evenings we enjoyed watching the sunset from different locations. The best part of Porto are the people! They are very gracious, and welcoming.
Getting around Porto is easy! We walked almost everywhere. The hills are steep, but very doable. We took cabs for sites outside of the city. They are very affordable.
I hope to go back to Porto and explore more of northern Portugal.

Lovely city but try to avoid to pick days that's raining...
Lovely city but try to avoid to pick days that's raining every day. If it stops and starts it's ok but If the rain is non-stop for hours we might end up on a Sunday with many places closed under a tent for 30 mins because all the uber/bolt are taken, like we did. Dont thing the umbrella will do you any good. The rain arrives horizontally in this city as it does in Lisbon. The city is pretty and it has a lot of character. The wineries are an interesting experience but not so value for money, at least the one we went. The wine tour guide didn't know much except for what she learned by hard (ex. she didn't know that Port and Madeira are both fortified wines)

Porto is so beautiful!
Porto is so beautiful! We found the people to be so friendly, welcoming and helpful. We took a 3 hour walking tour around the city, which gave us a good understanding of the history and provided a taste of some of the places we considered revisiting later on to explore further. The Douro valley / river, was the place I loved the most!! Couldn’t get enough of its beauty. We went back there, for a 2 hour sailing trip, which was pretty awesome. Sao Bento, the train station, is also a popular tourist attraction, which definitely should be visited. Each wall of the station has its own unique story. We are coffee lovers and enjoyed quite a few of the coffee shops around. Our favorite restaurant was “honest greens” and I highly recommend it. Overall, Porto is a place you’d really enjoy exploring when in Portugal.
Please post my review with my first name; Ayala, not my last name (Levy-Harari).
Everything was perfect. It was the best hotel that I stayed in during my two-weeks holiday in Portugal. As other reviewers have mentioned, the beds are super comfortable. The location is right in the centre of Porto, within walkable distance to the main attractions. Some of Porto's best restaurants are around this hotel as well.
The breakfast buffet was amazing, with berries, smoothies, tasty pastries and cakes. Everything was fresh and tasty.
Special thanks to staff members for being friendly and nice.
The Brewmasters House is absolutely amazing - the staff were excellent & provided wonderful recommendations, the room was very comfortable and clean, the room had a wonderful view of the city hall tower & was very quiet, checkin was done online and was very straightforward, the room was close to lots of great restaurants & old town, and we loved the port wine that was left for us in the room. We will for sure stay here on our next trip to Porto - this was our favorite accommodation on our trip to Portugal!
The location obviously. The Lonely Planet Porto walk runs right by/through the property. 3 of Trip Advisor’s top 10 restaurants are within a 1 minute—yes that’s right— walk and 5 more within 10 minutes. The Casas are small apartment units with oven, cooktop, microwave, hot water kettle etc, approx 70 sq m. Best wifi we’ve found in Portugal. The managers provide a de facto concierge service (including stocking the fridge) and are fantastically personable and efficient. A great, great find
Wonderfull would be not enough to say! Utopian hotel was a last step of my travel in Portugal. The room was amazing, colorful, very clean and cozy, the large bathroom, coffee corner and many more. I basically did not want to leave! Location!
I would like to mention the kindness of Sandra, she was looking after her guests and was always present for any questions we might have, people like her are truly gem for the Company! Thank you for everything, I will be back for sure.
Best hotel during our entire trip across Portugal! Staff were friendly. Location is gold. Facilities are great (would be better to have more mirrors as the one in the room is a reflexive window from the bathroom), love all the inside jokes to entertain guests from all the stuff displayed in the room. Basically staying here is another one unique experience on its own.
Clean, very fresh, nice smell.. I was feeling that came to the place made with love. At home has everything needed, FULLY equipped for life, I could live there with pleasure for a Month )) Has secured parking. I'm very happy and recommend to everyone (families as well). If will come back to Portugal again I will definitely stay there again.
We stayed with 6 family members at Hotel Avantgarde. It is an incredible hotel. Great location, professional and friendly service. The breakfast buffet was wonderful with something for everyone. Their attention to all the details was impeccable. I will definitely return to stay there when I visit Portugal again!
This place was awesome! We stayed at the Mayor’s Apartment for our last few nights in Porto. After a 30 day stay in Portugal, this apartment was by far the nicest, most comfortable, and best neighborhood, during our entire trip. The hostess was exceptional. I highly recommend the Mayor’s Apartment.
An amazing little boutique hotel with beautifully appointed rooms in a central location. The hotel manager and host is the best host I had on
My entire European trip, she was so helpful and it felt I was staying with friends or someone I know. This is more than a 10/10 experience.
Great hotel in Porto, so quirky with all of the bumper cars and memorabilia all around the hotel. The reception staff were super friendly and so helpful. Breakfast was really good but the beds weren't the most comfortable during our stay in Portugal.
This was the best place we stayed in Portugal! A must for anyone coming to Porto! Staff were very friendly and answered all our questions. The breakfasts were made from fresh produce and well planned and the dining area was beautifully decorated.
I'll be eternity grateful for the staffs during my stay there. Erica, Telma, Gaspar and Adilson are angels. Helped me in everything I needed. Was the best hostel I stayed here in Portugal. Super recommend.
This was a beautiful apartment. It had wonderful light, was very spacious, and had all the amenities we could ask for. It was much better than any other properties we stayed at in our trip in Portugal.
The staff were superb, and accommodating of questions and concerns. Of all the hotels in which we stayed in Portugal, this provided the best breakfast gluten-free and nondairy options.
Best stay in Portugal so far. Very luxureous. Great apartment. 5 star for sure. I wish all my guesthouses/apartments were like these. I would be a very happy tourist.
Hotel and staff was OK, this hotel is not only for turists I think. Very clean. Very good breakfest. We shall be back if we shal come to Portugal again for sure
Very nice surprise as for a random choice from Booking.com
Great, very cozy and stylish hotel. Also pet friendly which is rather unusual in Portugal :(
