Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Alps, Innsbruck is not only a world-class European ski resort, it’s also the former seat of Maximilian
I’s Holy Roman Empire.
This imperial legacy has left its mark, most notably in the Old Town where beautiful Rococo buildings sit alongside pastel facades and typically Tyrolean, flower-adorned windows. The visitable Hofburg imperial court owes its modern appearance to 18th-century Empress Maria Theresia.
The Hofkirche contains a memorial tomb for Maximilian I, and his life is depicted in frescoes on the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) nearby, named after the gleaming, copper tiles lining its entrance.
Flying into Innsbruck Airport, it’s easy to see why the city was so highly regarded. Practically every street ends with a view of the Alps, lush in summer, snowy white in winter. Nestled on a slope is Schloss Ambras, ex-residence of Archduke Ferdinand II, while the surroundings provide summer mountaineering, hiking and golf.
In winter of course it’s all about the fantastic Innsbruck skiing and snowboarding. Ski areas include Nordkette mountain, accessed by cable car and chairlifts near the town’s hotels and B&Bs on Booking.com. Its varied pistes means that several international competitions are held here, as well as the Bergiselschanze ski jump contest. The après-ski is laidback and centred around chalet-style bars and traditional restaurants.
Innsbruck is stunning! It's much smaller than Vienna and smaller than Salzburg, but bigger than some of the villages we visited. Even so, it was one of our favorite stops because of the gorgeous historic district, the river, the history, the people, and the beautiful mountain surroundings. If you've never been, you need to go!

Highly recommend getting out into nature as much as possible...
Highly recommend getting out into nature as much as possible, there are some amazing hikes in the area for all skill-levels. The surrounding wilderness is genuinely breath-taking. I recommend the Natterer-see trail for anyone with a basic fitness level. The attached photos are from our hike. One bit of general advice for anyone planning to visit; most supermarkets close around 7pm so bring food with you if you're planning on arriving late.

Innsbruck is beautiful and a must see!
Innsbruck is beautiful and a must see! Ideal to walk around as it's not too big and there are many beautiful things to see and do.
So close to the mountains so skiing or hiking is a must.
Great places to eat as a variety of choice-great little pizza place called Farina which as an Italian, I can highly rate!
There is also Skifskeller which is fantastic for local cuisine! Great food and great atmosphere!
I would highly recommend the Innsbruck card, it was absolutely fantastic and saved us SO much money as so much is included.
Would definitely return to Innsbruck! :)

Innsbruck has a wonderful location: a charming, not so large city in the midst of spectacular mountains. The Hofburg palace is interesting, is nicely located in the midst of the city and adjacent to a wonderful imperial garden with beautiful old trees. The other main palace, Ambras, is also interesting. It is located outside the city, well reachable by public transportation and surrounded by a great, hilly garden. The picture galeries and ancient furnitures of these palaces do not reach the quality of the top European castles, but are historically interesting.
Public transportation is excellent. The city is very lively, quite touristy, but also casual, a good mix of local people and visitors. Nice cafes along the river and the main streets in the city center. We ejoyed the food of Il Convento and the Trattoria de due Sicilie. Reservations necessary!

Innsbruck is a great city to spend time in.
Innsbruck is a great city to spend time in. It has a huge variety of restaurants, and great shopping if that's what you are in to.
Public transport is excellent, and you can base yourself in the city and buy a pass that is valid for a number of city sites, the public buses, and 13 ski resorts which can be easily reached by bus.
There is a funicular railway up to Nordketter, Innsbruck's own ski area.
There is a very easy student/university vibe to the city at night: highly recommended
The apartment was very clean with a fully equipped kitchen, very easy check-in, comfortable bed, etc. The owner was very kind and hospitable, such a warm welcome to Austria! The neighborhood was very calm and close to the nature. It is around 15-20min walking to the town center and 15min by taxi to the train station (around 13€). Definitely recommended to go up to the pic of Innsbruck for a hike, 45€ per person but the view and the mountains are so worthy!
Excellent location, very close to the Old Town area, room was comfortable and clean, buffet breakfast has an excellent variety to choose from. Staff at front desk were friendly and very helpful, the hotel can provide you with The Innsbruck Welcome Card which offers discounts on various tourist attractions and cable cars for the mountains. This was not my first time staying at this hotel and I will definitely stay here again on a future trip to Innsbruck.
The location of the hotel was excellent ! Right downtown in the heart of the shopping and old town section of the city. Also, the breakfast buffet was terrific ! They actually had scrambled eggs that tasted great ! The staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs and bent-over backwards to help in any way. I would certainly stay here again if I came back for a visit.
Location was awesome, just few minutes walk to the local bus station- Hoher Weg, tram station, funicular train station, grocery and the Old Town. Our room has an awesome view of the mountains and the River Inn. Staff were friendly and can speak English. We had free 3 days unlimited access to the bus and tram as complementary for visiting Innsbruck and staying at the hotel.
Christine, the owner/manager, is super efficient and client-oriented; she made sure that our special requests were immediately attended to. Her recommended list of restaurants is on target! The hotel location is a pleasant 6-7 minutes walk to the Old Town, as well as to the Congress Station, where one can take the Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen to see the Top of Innsbruck.
I know Innsbruck pretty well and knew where the hotel is located. As I wanted a place with parking and close to the motorway as well as in walking distance to the city centre, I chose Rufis - and will do so again :-) Very friendly and helpful staff, good check-in and check-out experiences, nice bar and restaurant attached. We'll be back!
Very warm and gave a beautiful Austrian flavor. Was a 5 minute walk from the bahnhof and 10 mins to the Alstadt. We decided to have dinner in the hotel rather than return out into the cold (22F) and wind, and we were welcomed with a fabulous dinner, wine and an exceptional dessert. The staff went out of their way to make the evening.
Chef was very good and her food especially homemade soup great. Hotel family owned and run.
Staff very friendly, Mia the waitress/ barmaid perhaps manager was exceptional and made our stay. The views from our room were really good when the weather was good. The local tram was great and took us in to Innsbruck city very cheaply.
Best hostel I ever stayed in, beds were very comfortable and the pods gave you enough privacy even in a 6-bed dorm.
Absolute recommendation if you plan a trip to Innsbruck, it's situated just over the bridge from the Old Town, a mere 3 minutes walk to mowt places for sightseeing/dining/party.
Hotel was located on the edge of Axams 50 metres from the free bus to Axamer Lizum for skiing or Innsbruck city centre.
The room was exactly as the photos and the staff were all very helpful.
The spa was a real bonus and never crowded.
Breakfast was good. Especially the coffee machine.
The hotel was very clean, perfectly located next to the old town but not in the noisy area, with everything what is needed: Parking garage, pool, sauna, restaurant, etc. The best part of the stay was the breakfast, offering a wide variety and in abundance.
The stay, amenities etc , breakfast and service. The hotel is very close to the old town where you can go practically every day ! The location of our room on top floor and the view is just one of the best you can get in innsbruck , hands down.
The location was excellent for Old town and getting to Restaurants etc. The Reception staff were so helpful and pleasant. The best nights sleep comfy beds. We will definitely return to this hotel!
Everything!! friendly staff, gorgeous rooms, cozy and comfortable. close to what we wanted to see in Old Town Innsbruck. A very nice breakfast. highly recommend-a true gem!!!
Right in the old town of Innsbruck.
Superb hotel design with attention to details.
Splendid bar/breakfast area with a view.
Above all - very helpful staff.
