Beautiful place to stay - we were in a Chalet and it was cozy, comfortable and warm. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the colourful trees in Autumn are stunning! The river is right in front of the property and you can do the Tongariro River track straight from the lodge (although a little signposting would be helpful as we got a bit confused trying to find it). The staff were so sunny and helpful - a real pleasure to deal with. They cooked us a wonderful breakfast which we ate in front of the fireplace :) Would come back to stay here in a heartbeat!

Loved the location, nestled in the tress next to a wonderful walking path by the river, away from the noise of the busy highway. The roomy cottage was clean and comfortable. Appreciated the (seemingly brand new) full fridge!

Turangi has many interesting outdoor activities, and it is in the central North Island with mountains, rivers, Lake Taupo nearby, but we were just passing through and for us it was a place to break the long journey, rather than a destination in itself.

It's a great stopover location say between Auckland and Wellington but it's hard to find good food and the prices e.g. food and petrol reflect a lack of true competition and a feeling "well, you've got little choice"

A comfortable apartment with great views over Lake Taupo.
A comfortable apartment with great views over Lake Taupo. We stayed two nights and used it as our base for doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, so it was perfect for that. Oreti Resort is about 14km from Turangi, so you definitely need a car for eating out etc.

We found plenty to do in our 3 day stay.
We found plenty to do in our 3 day stay. We popped up to Taupo and went to Orakei korako. Then to beautiful lake Rotopounamu and walked around that. And did the picturesque river walk. We hired a rental car so we could look around easily. We could have easily filled in a whole week.

Central to some wonderful activities such as great rafting, the walk Tongariro crossing, Ruapehu. 'Up market' accommodation is very limited but if you can get into the Tongariro Lodge, it is excellent. Worth the extra cost. The locals are helpful and the town has a nice relaxed non-touristy feel; however avoid leaving your car parked overnight on a street. Shopping, apart from Groceries is limited.

Turangi is a lovely little town.
Turangi is a lovely little town. Not much going on in the actual town itself but has everything you need in terms of supermarkets etc. and easy access to the Tongariro Crossing and lots of other beautiful walks nearby. Recommend the Tongariro River Walk and Lake Rotopounamu walk too. Lovely swimming spots! I stayed for 4 nights in the end which was great. Recommend staying here! And also use Panda Shuttles to get to the Tongariro crossing or anywhere in the local area. Stay at Riverstone Lodge if you can!
Awesome place. Great experience right from the beginning. I got a welcome text from the motel soon as I booked, which was last minute. I decided to call them to say we will be arriving late at night. The sweet lady said, “after this call, I’ll go and turn the heater on and leave a light on for you.
The place is very comfortable, close to shops, has 2 storeys with 2 single beds upstairs and a queen downstairs. Very clean and tidy with heated tiles in the bathroom. We will be booking this place every time we visit Turangi.
This is a little gem. Family friendly and great for us old folks too, with simple, private hot pools and a covered, outdoor hot pool with cooler outdoor above ground pool. Wonderful for star gazing, The chalets are a reasonable size, comfy bed and the laundry and Wi-Fi are free, essential for us independent travelers.
We drove out for a trip and immediately passed the steaming cliffs and stopped at wonderful reed bedded beach, by lake Taupo.
The drives from Whakatani to Turangi and on to Wellington, are stunning.
Delightful bed and breakfast. The hosts, Tim and Mary, were engaging and friendly.
Breakfast choices were varied and the homemade pizza menu was a welcome touch after a long drive when we arrived.
I wished that we could have stayed longer and I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone wanting to explore the Lake Taupō area. The one thing we learned on our drive up and down both islands is to base yourself somewhere for a few days and travel out each day - this is ideal for that!
We really enjoyed our stay at Creel Lodge. The room was very nice and clean, we had separate bedrooms, living area and kitchen, and porch. If you walk to the back of the property there is a private gate that leads to a nice walk by the river. The lodge is also close enough to take a short walk into the main town area where there is a grocery store and restaurants. I would recommend staying here and would stay here again.
Wonderful Backpacker/Lodge. The Host/Owner is friendly, helpful and operates a first-class facility. Location was great -- short walk to grocery store, pubs, and restaurants. The accomodations (I had room with Queen bed and shower/think was very comfortable. The Host's interaction with guest also seemed to get other guests to interact more and spend little less time on their phones
It's spacious studio with car park conveniently in front of the door. In addition, a sunny backyard to enjoy the afternoon. Generally quiet and clean. We left my son's toy in the bed and the Rhett managed to find it and post it back to Wellington. Very nice experience with Judges Pool Motel. Thank you very much.
Small, modest motel. A bit tired. But clean and tidy. The owner/operator, Bede, was personable and helpful. The rooms were warm from central heating. A short drive from Turangi. A quarter mile walk to the hot pools in Tokaanu. We ate dinner at the Tokaanu Tavern, a typical Kiwi pub and sports bar.
Amazing find! The most cost effective accommodation in New Zealand, great place to make connections with locals (especially if you’re looking for fishing tips), cozy common room with a fireplace, and great host.
Tokaanu lodge is best by far, comfortable, friendly, easy to find. Great location. Owners are awesome, best part about lodge is the owners and being pet friendly, going on holiday with our pet dog is the best.
The views are amazing looking out over Lake Taupo. In general the apartment was comfortable and convenient. The location is close enough to the ski fields for a day of skiing or to the mountains for hiking.
We have a wonderful and relaxing stay in Turangi bridge motel! Rooms are all relaxing and so clean as well as the whole place... will definitely come back here! Very recommendable!
We stayed here one night as a stop Mid journey
It was a great place to stay - peaceful fabulous views nice restaurant
Far better than staying in a motel unit in turangi
