The Pancake Rocks walking track was fantastic and the Blow Holes were amazing. The Truman Track through native bush was awesome. Cafe reasonable and pub good but expensive food and drinks. Spectacular rock formations all around the area.Raincoats recommended - you never know when it will rain.

We loved our visit to Punakaika rocks and worth a detour.
We loved our visit to Punakaika rocks and worth a detour. We liked the house except we are too old for having to go up and down steep stairs during the night. We were not warned about this.
We ate at the local scenic hotel and this was reasonable and pleasant

The Pancake Rocks are overwhelming beautiful, almost an alien place on earth. We went there at the end of the day (low tide) and came back in the morning (high tide). The power of the waves was incredible.

What a delightful natural attraction - the pancake rocks are incredible. The garden tavern is very welcoming and the food was good. We stayed in the cute beachfront cabin and could walk to the beach, the pancake rocks, garden tavern and info centre from there. The Pancake Rocks Cafe needs a good shake up, the pancakes were terrible - undercooked and the banana was bad.

Great option for a short one night, or even longer stay.
Great option for a short one night, or even longer stay. The small compound of self contained units was very lovely. Even though all the cottages were occupied, it was peaceful and I could have sat out on the deck for much longer to enjoy the sound of the waves on the beach. We ate at the main hotel/restaurant in a lovely secluded garden. Even though it's right on the main road, the garden gives you a sense of peaceful tranquility. There's not much to do in the area, but for sure a 1 or 2 night stay is perfect here. We had room #10 & it was absolutely perfect

We visited the Rocks along the road - always an interesting visit, and spent a lot of time in Barrytown for a friends wedding.
Always take mozzie spray or insect repellant!
We took our own breakfast items and ate out the rest of the time - the pub at the other end of the village has a good range of food as does the cafe at the Rocks
Mel answered the phone when I may have needed to change my reservation because I missed the morning ferry from Wellington to Picton. She was willing to push it back a day, but in the end, I drove to Punakaiki and arrived late. Mel was so nice and helpful on the phone and the next morning at the camp office in person. This was the perfect stop on our road trip. Sad to say we had to move on by 2pm the next day after visiting every single spot Mel recommended, including the pancake rocks at high tide.
Great location and quick 3 min walk to the Punakaiki Rocks and blowholes. Also close to the entry exit for the Paparoa track. Room was fantastic - large with everything you need. Beds comfy and view of ocean was very relaxing. Service was impeccable from Raj, Peggy and Alexander. Such lovely and welcoming people. Dinner was definitely five star. What a lovely place to stay - will definitely come back.
We stayed here the night after we finished the Paparoa Great Walk. A short 10 minute drive along the coast from Punakaiki. Stunning views and the spa pool was just lovely. Has everything you need -but remember to bring your own food/alcohol as nothing nearby. We ate in Punakaiki and was great. A fantastic stay -thank you so much! We’ll be back for longer than one night next time.
We truly enjoyed the property, i.e., location fantastic, overall property was wonderful, loved the outdoor deck, and it was a great fit for our three adult group.
Check-in & check-out were very easy! We would definitly recommend this property for anyone visiting Punakaiki!
Check in at the main hotel/bar/restaurant was super quick and easy. The location of the property is perfect to break up the drive up/down the coast. The 1 bedroom cottage we had was perfect for us, and would be ideal even for much longer stays than our 1 night.
This is a basic accommodation & not much else around. After seeing Punakaiki rocks we chose to stay here at the pub. Probably should have gone onto Nelson but hey, it was it was clean & comfortable enough for a one night stay. The pub had good nightime meals.
Excellent location if you want to visit Punakaiki or just enjoy a nice spot. All the areas were very cozy and warm. We initially had a double room with shared bathroom but got upgraded to a room with an en suite bathroom, which was a very nice surprise.
Clean, quiet & well designed cottage right in Punakaiki, close to Pancake Rocks & Porarari River walks. Equipped with anything you’d need for a stay. Manager kindly sent on some lost prescription sunglasses we forgot to our next stay - very helpful!!
.Im so happy i chose Hydrangea cottages for my nights stay in punakaiki.. The out door bath was a favourite and the fact i coukd bring my puppy also.
Thank you for a magical evening.. Il be definitely coming back and recommending to others.
I had one night in the little S/C cabin & it was cute; right on beachfront with deck facing the sea; all necessary amenities, clean & comfortable. Friendly staff. Walking distance to local tavern & not that far from Pancake Rocks.
The hotel is very conveniently located to Pancake Rocks. The food in the restaurant/pub was reasonably priced and quite good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I felt very welcome.
Very modern and comfy cottage. Very clean and tidy. Super fronr view. Just on the beach side. One of the Best shower cabins i have encountered in hotels.
