If it weren’t for Joan of Arc, Orléans may not have become the beautiful city it is today. The teenage heroine of France liberated the city during the Hundred Years War, a fact commemorated with a May festival and a statue of her on horseback in a large square (well, hexagon).
From Joan’s former house nearby, a road leads to Sainte-Croix Cathedral. Arriving from this direction, the cathedral appears somewhat overshadowed by terraced buildings, until you step out into its square and realise what an incredible structure it is.
To the north is the fine art museum and in the opposite direction are the shops, restaurants and bars of Rue de Bourgogne. Place du Châtelet houses more shops, overlooked by narrow half-timbered buildings. Just south, historic Georges V Bridge crosses the fast-flowing Loire River, connecting the historic centre with modern suburbs.
South of the river are the Parc des Expos and Zenith d’Orléans event centres, while further away is the Parc Floral de la Source – gardens centred on the source of the Loiret River. Even further south is the tranquil Sologne forest, while to the west the Loire passes many wonderful castles.
As well as Loire Valley accommodation, Booking.com offers luxury Orléans hotels, cheap B&Bs and apartments near the train station.
Plenty of good restaurants and pubs in a pedestrian area.

A lovely city. A lot of history, but absolutely not boring.
Very clean as well.
Romantic ballads along the Loire-river.
Interesting castles as well (Sully).

We were only in Orleans for one night after flying transatlantic into Paris. So we did not see much. We formed a positive impression though...the statue of Joan of Arc, the Cathedral, the shops and quaint, easily walkable historic district.

Orléans is a surprising small city, packed with history and home to Jeanne d’Arc. Beautiful city centre, very beautifully planned and executed urban redevelopment putting on focus historical features and yes the cathedral is just stunning. We stayed only a short overnight and were lucky to witness the late night light show pinned to the facade of the cathedral: just stunning. Beautiful pedestrian areas with medieval timber framed houses as well as glamorous arcades and squares. Will go back again!

From the U. S. and first time visiting France.
From the U. S. and first time visiting France. We were in Orleans for just one night. This hotel is in a great location to walk to the sights and pedestrian areas. The front desk staff were proactively helpful providing a map of the area and what is available.
The parking was in a courtyard and very safe. As extra bonus for this hotel, we asked for a bucket of ice and actually got a wine bucket with ice. I say this because at a hotel stay with different chain a couple nights prior we got a cereal bowl of ice.
Room was pristine and had AC. Temps have been about 80 and nights were not very cool to sleep at prior lodgings we were staying at.
Should we visit Orleans again we will stay at this hotel.
We needed secure parking as we had two valuable bicycles on the back of our car. The hotel has outside parking with a gate that closed at midnight with CCTV and secure underground parking. We opted for the underground parking, very secure and well worth the small extra charge for the piece of mind.
The restaurant was excellent. Nicely decorated and the food was fabulous. Chef David visited the table of his diners which was a very nice touch. Breakfast was a buffet and again provided an huge range of foods to accommodate big appetites.
What a gem of a hotel… beautifully decorated and clean. Bedroom good size with the most comfortable bed… best nights sleep travelling.
Wonderful shower and bathroom
Lovely first floor room so we could have window open
Accepted our small dog no problem.
Breakfast was AMAZING! Such a huge choice of food and drinks.
Will definitely be staying again when travelling from UK to France…wish we had stayed an extra night and driven straight to Le Shuttle and not stayed in Calais where hotel was horrendous and same price!
This is a wonderful old fashioned hotel, with wonderful turn of the century ambiance and furnishings. Loved it. Even without a lift (as a result of not pandering to modern destructions) it is still true. They offered to help.,
It is very handy for the train station and close to the center - and Orleans Cathedral. So excellent location.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to old-fashioned lovers of quality. Staff extremely friendly. Lovely breakfast room. What more can I say.
This was our second visit we originally booked for four nights but extended our stay by another 2 nights. If you are looking for a quiet relaxed holiday this in our opinion is ideal we spent our evenings in small square at front of the hotel watching locals playing boules also short stroll down to river front to relax and watch the world go by also plenty of shops bars cathedrals and restaurants in walking distance. We will most definitely be returning on our next road trip through France
The location is great for visiting Orleans. It is in the middle of the historical center of the city. The apartment is in an old building - interesting itself (be aware of the third floor without an elevator). The window view is great. The apartment is well equipped for a stay of 2 or 4 people (because of a single bathroom - for 2 it is better))). The kitchen has everything you need for a mid/long stay. Some kitchen stuff might be renewed.
The Hotel is a gem for travelers seeking comfort and convenience. We appreciated the complimentary parking, a rare find in the city, making it hassle-free for those traveling by car. Its location is ideal, just a short walk from Orléans city center, offering easy access to local attractions. The beds were notably comfortable, giving us a restful night's sleep. Recommended stay for both leisure and business travelers.
This is the second time that we stayed in this wonderful apartment on our visit to Orleans. The location is in the absolute center of town. The cathedral is a 5 min walk away. There are many restaurants and shops around. We parked our car at the garage in Les Halles Châtelet which is 250 meter away. Everything is very convenient, the apartment is clean and has a nice kitchen. The beds are comfortable and there is wifi.
Exceeded expectations in every way as we got a perfect room with comfortable bed and many facilities - kitchenette, private parking space, cosy terrace, filled minibar, ... - for a small price. Quiet location off the street. Ideal for a stop-over on our way to the South of France as it has parking and it's located outside of the car-free city centre however very close for a visit on foot.
The hotel was perfectly located near the main square in Orleans. In a very historic part of town, this little gem of a hotel has been updated with great care. Our room was great and the breakfast before departure was generous and delicious. Gabriel who managed the front desk while we were there went out of his way to help us when he saw that we were struggling to speak French.
The atmosphere when you enter is calm and relaxing, the rooms spotless and perfectly appointed, and the grounds attractively wooded. The room was spacious, the twin beds wide with lovely bed linen, and the beer on the terrace after a six days driving from southern France was magic. I have stayed in other hotels along the way but none were a patch on this one. It is exceptional.
Nice small hotel close to the train station and shopping center. You can reach city center by walk (5-10 mins), many shops/cafe around. Rooms was not so big, but with comfy beds. Kind and helpful people on the reception. Good option for this price.
Superb location, comfortable (albeit small) room, attentive staff and a very good breakfast. Having forgotten an item on checkout, the hotel staff went the extra mile to locate and to safely return the item.
My family and I have often stayed at the Mercure Orleans when travelling to and from the South of France - the location, car parking and proximity to city centre restaurants.
