When travelling I prefer to enjoy the place & mix with the people instead of hopping from one place to another spending hours in a car. Eating where they eat & shopping where they shop instead of “touristic” destinations. I walked around from the house to Ngarai Sianok then Jam Gadang. The weather cooperated throughout my stay, but the crowds were packed due to the town 29th anniversary celebrations. Maybe visiting during mid year instead of monsoon & peak holiday seasons will give more time to enjoy the areas. The costs are friendly to the wallet & even small food stalls around the areas are delicious & representing the traditional dishes.

Historical, sight seeing, foods and kain sulam (fabric with embroidery). About weather, Cameron Highland is 3x colder than Bukittinggi. So ... if I were to make another trip in the future, I'd rather stay longer here while Padang is just a transit.

I like shopping, local food ,the friendly locals and the places of interests with lots of greeneries. I got to try Nasi Kapau which is a bit similar to Nasi Padang. They are both delicious. I hired a a car so I got to see more places at my own time and pace and to stop for photo taking anywhere along the way. To get to places in the city is easy but if you stay further away its better to get on go jek or go car.

Marapi-Singgalang view. It is located quite in the middle of Bukittinggi tourist attractions. You can walk to Panorama Ngarai Sianok, Jam Gadang, Pasa Ateh (Upper Market), Fort de Kock and Bukittinggi Zoo. Good breakfast with traditional options, but it was a bit too crowded when we were there. The space between tables should have been made bigger as we haven’t completely left covid behind yet. The staff are ok.
