Bursting with culture and scenery, and arranged around a charming harbour, Stavanger has an array of restaurants and museums, and is home to Norway’s oldest cathedral, Stavanger Cathedral.
Some of the most popular museums to see in the city are the Stavanger Museum, Rogaland Art Museum and Stavanger Maritime Museum, which shows off this port cities rich maritime history.
Looking for some sightseeing inspiration? Then stroll along the narrow cobbled streets and soak up the charm of the city's past in Old Stavanger (Gamle Stavanger) which features traditional white wooden houses with red-rooftops and the Norwegian Canning Museum.
Sightseeing and day trips aside, other activities include hiking and climbing around the amazing and picturesque landscapes of the city and The Lysefjord. During winter, locals flock to Stokkavannet Lake for ice skating, and if the lake is not iced over there are ice skating opportunities at the indoor Arena Sørmarka.

Neat tidy small city, but hilly.
Neat tidy small city, but hilly. Mainly cobbled pedestrian streets which are easy to get around. Shopping very expensive and in virtually cash free. Use a card for everything - preferably pre-loaded with Krone.
Some great museums and these are very good value. Other attractions are, like the shopping, are very costly and probably designed to extract the maximum amount from the tourists. This is very noticeable when the obscenely large cruse ships arrive and disgorge thousands of passengers,
Plenty of restaurants and bars, but don't go looking for Norwegian food.
You can have your pick of Chinese, Thai, Indian etc... and try not to be too shocked by the prices.
We really liked Stavanger and would happily recommend it, but remember that Norway is an expensive country, so be prepared to budget for it.

Stavanger is beautiful and I will absolutely go back.
Stavanger is beautiful and I will absolutely go back. We came to hike the pulpit. Absolutely beautiful and sunny. I recommend starting early.
We started at 8 am with not too many people.
A different story when we were coming back down. Stavanger and the The Pulpit or Preikestolen was absolutely wort a visit. The Norwegian engineering of the tunnels are amazing. 4 bars on my cell the whole way through the tunnels below the water.

If you have extra time after beautiful Bergen and scenic Flam/Naeroyfjord cruise (not to be missed), Stavanger is charming for two nights (took express bus from Bergen -- easy and convenient downtown to downtown). In Stavanger, I took the Rodne cruise-only under Pulpit Rock (very enjoyable) along Lysefjord because I cannot hike up Pulpit Rock. In Stavanger, I also visited Gamle Stavanger (quaint), the Printing, Canning and Maritime Museums (all small but excellent), as well as the informative Petroleum Museum (near Hotel Victoria). I was able to take the Flybussen airport bus upon my departure and the Stavanger airport is convenient.

A quiet place to stay with nice friendly staff.
A quiet place to stay with nice friendly staff. Facilities (kitchen & bath room ) need to be updated. Location is not so easy to access by walking from city center or bus station with a luggage because it is an uphill walking for several blocks.

I enjoyed being close to the Mosvatnet to do the special extra Norway Labour Day parkrun. It is about 15 minutes walk to get to the Mosvatnet to the start and finish of the Stavanger parkrun. The hotel is about half an hour's walk from the city center. If being closer to the city center is more priority I would recommend a hotel in the city center. It is a pretty port with an old town. A few museums to go into if it is raining. There is also bus top tours to do which I enjoyed and would recommend as you get a good overview of the city and learn some history at the same time.
Very clean, comfortable and friendly hotel - we stayed 2 nights on our way out to a hiking trip in the Lysefjord. Many reviews mention the breakfast and rightly so; it was one of the most impressive breakfast spreads we've seen and was absolutely delicious including beautiful cappuccinos. Beds were very comfortable. Location is very central for walking around the heart of Stavanger (and for running our pre-hike grocery errands etc.) Norway is famously expensive, but in local context this hotel was good value.
Great breakfast with lots of options! The dining room is nicely appointed and elegant. The recent renovation of this historic property is nice, and the location is fantastic--within a few short minutes walking to everything you want to see and do in Stavanger. The front desk staff were fantastic... very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend!
The staff was very friendly minus the night staff (reception) that do not seem willing to help as I feel they should. The complete hotel is very clean. The breakfast I wonderful. The lobby area is clean and inviting. The people at the drinking bar area are very friendly and helpful.
staff were really helpful and chatty, although I left early and went to sleep quickly as a respectful guest I did not see them much. The offered rooms are what will make your travel easy and pleasant. Norway is absolutely amazing.
This hotel was a lot nicer than one would expect from the outside. It has a giant atrium in the middle of the building, with transparent elevators, and a gorgeous pool and sauna in the basement. Rooms are large and comfortable.
Everything was as described. The stay was very successful. We fell in love with Norway, we will definitely come back to exactly the same place. Contact with the owner was very nice, he was very helpful. I recommend!
The hotel is in a great location just a few minutes from the city centre and the airport bus stops right outside. There is lots of public space for meetings/working. Room was comfortable and fairly spacious.
Super comfortable rooms
Friendly staff
Well equipped kitchenette in room
Good facilities
Great bakery and pizzeria in the lobby with discounts for hotel guests
Paid parking next door
By far the best value of the 10 hotels we stayed at while vacationing in Norway. Excellent facilities, room cleanliness, and breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff.
Fantastic breakfast...probably one of the best breakfasts I have had in a hotel. The location could not be better, Very close to almost everything in Stavanger.
The location was superb. It's almost near everything like the town centre and old stavanger. A bus stop going to the airport is just right outside the hotel.
