Grand Hotel Sunderland, hotel in Sunderland

Overlooking Whitburn Sands and 3.2 km from Sunderland city centre, this hotel offers sea-front views, spacious accommodation and an indoor swimming pool.

Room, breakfast and location were all excellent. We were happy with the original room, but upgraded to one with a view of the sea, which exceeded our expectations. The staff were wonderful and we were very happy with our stay in Sunderland.

You need to book well in advance if you want to watch the Black Cats at the stadium of light! There is a nice railway connection to nearby Seaham if you want to visit. You can walk along the Wear through a sculpture park and the city centre is excellent for cheap food and drink.

Sunderland was good, but if you want 4* service at 4* prices don't go to The Grand. Only pub food and you make your own bed and carry out own room service. REALLY NOT ON. Good point, staff lovely and very helpful

Sunderland is a lovely city with lots of things to see and do. The coast here is beautiful with interesting beaches and walks. The people we spoke to were welcoming and friendly everywhere we went. Food was great, reasonable prices and delicious. Will definitely go back to see more of this lovely part of the country.

Will definitely stay here again. We booked in to be near Stadium of Light for a concert. This hotel and their staff went above and beyond to accommodate everyone who was attending the concert. They had arranged a pamphlet with all the details one would need to get their way around. Good choice of hot and cold items for breakfast. Lovely, clean and comfortable room. Attentive, polite and friendly staff. Not too far to the Metro.

AA Sunderland defrauded me, the hotel doesn't exist, after booking a room with AA Sunderland, a day before my check in the hotel was asking for more additional £50. On the check in day, I called multiple times and no one answered, even when I emailed, I got no reply. Luckily for me, I used Paypal, after investigating the matter, Paypal refunded me in full. Please beware, AA Sunderland is fraud.

Well the whole experience here was brilliant 👏 Me and my young son stayed Friday night before the One tournament Saturday morning and we was greeted by the wonderful lady who owns the hotel and made to feel very welcome immediately. The place was clean and tidy and had its own kitchen with breakfast continentals at the ready. Highly recommended if your going to stay in Sunderland.

Fab location right on Roker seafront, easy access to both Sunderland and Newcastle. The room was modern and clean and the en suite was nice. Plenty of parking out front and they let us drop off the car before check in so we could go into the city centre and have a walk around. Very friendly staff happy to point us in the right direction and have a little chat.

Great leisure facilities, and a superb sea view. Excellent value for money, in an amazing location. Seaburn and Roker beaches are far superior to those found at Whitley Bay and Tynemouth, and this hotel is right in the middle of the 2 Sunderland beach resorts. Highly recommended.

Hotel was well placed for everything we wanted to do in Sunderland with an easy walk to the train station and the shopping centre. It was comfortable, the aircon worked well and the USB ports by the beds were very useful. We paid extra for breakfast which was of good quality.

The property sit just across from the beach/ promenade. There are loads of place to eat if not eating in hotel, next door is the stack which doesn’t look inviting but once in you have street food and live music.
