The hotel meets our requirements in these three respects. We have a cottage in the area where paying guests are currently staying. They had issues that we needed to address, so we stayed at the hotel for this reason.
Located right in Sidmouth’s Esplanade, in Devon, The Kingswood Hotel provides en suite accommodation with free WiFi. This contemporary hotel also offers a bar and a restaurant.

Great location, right on sea front, with parking at rear. Right in the heart of the town.Staff were superb, nothing too much trouble, very considerate. Breakfasts very good. Lovely atmosphere and feel to the place. Our family had rooms on 1st,2nd &3rd floors, all varied and 1st&2nd floor easy level access from lift, ideal for the older members of family. Rooms newly refurbished, light and airy, very comfortable beds, and quiet location with just sound of the waves.

Lovely single room with sea view and small balcony. The hotel felt as if it had recently been refurbished - or was just exceptionally clean and bright!
All the staff were very friendly and efficient.
Nice bar with reasonably priced drinks.
Great location on the front and very handy for the main bus stops.

Good choice of hotels and good shops in the town if the weather isn't great. (Loads of really good charity shops!)
Not many restaurants are open in the evenings (especially early in the week) so you need to book in advance. Myca, Pea Green Boat and The Loft are all good. Much more choice at lunchtime and good coffee/tea shops with lovely cakes. The Scott cinema and Marine theatre are both sweet and worth a visit.
Buses go to a few places if you don't have a car - and seem to be very reliable.
Jacobs Ladder beach and the Connaught Gardens are well worth visiting and are nicer than the town beach yet still very close to the centre.
Be aware that rocks etc can fall from the cliffs! The Jurassic coastline is amazing but it can crumble suddenly.

Sidmouth was a beautiful little seaside town with plenty of places to eat and drink!
Dog friendly beach in winter and lots of dog-friendly pubs/cafes! Beach is shingle/large pebble so not for everyone, but there’s a promenade/path the whole way along!
Lots of nice little independent shops & charity shops!
Parking gets very busy so you’re better off parking in the ‘weekend and walk’ car park slightly outside town - not far at all!
We visited in February but I’ve been told is gets very busy from May onwards.
There is a folk festival on the first weekend of August every year which I hear is great (but very busy)!

There's nothing there but the countryside.
There's nothing there but the countryside. Great for a solo weekend trip, but probably 1 week was too long. Especially when the accommodation was disappointing.
And from London, I don't think it's worth the drive.
Woodlands Hotel is a real gem! From the warm reception at check-in, to the equally warm goodbye, the entire experience was positive. Clean room (everything worked), spacious public areas (conservatory, plus a huge and exceptionally well-maintained garden, with a stream running through it for added character) and a breakfast of freshly-cooked, quality ingredients, served piping hot. Sidmouth isn’t an area that features frequently on our travels, but Woodlands Hotel makes us wish it did! We’d happily stay here again.
Our flight was delayed so we arrived after the restaurant closed. The owner and his wife made us welcome, even though they had closed for the night. They very kindly opened a bottle of wine and made us a wonderful dinner. Throughout the stay their hospitality was amazing. The owner would not let us walk to the bus stop, instead he very kindly drove us all the way to Sidmouth in his own car! They really could not have done more for us!
Stayed here before and will again. Excellent location, rooms are well equipped and comfy, especially like the provision of a bottle of water (glass not plastic). They seem to be quite ethical, with excellent breakfast options catering to a full range of sustainable provisions and lifestyle choices. They are less formal than their sister hotels, which is great for those young at heart as Dukes is the social hub of Sidmouth.
Room described as compact double was perfect for us. Even a partial sea view. A window you can open for fresh air and to hear the waves and smell the sea. Isn't that what you want when you are by the sea. Everything we needed and very comfortable. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel. Great quality food and we liked the all the staff we met. Hotel is close to everything you might want to access in Sidmouth.
This is not my first visit to the Harbour in Sidmouth we've friends locally. I always have a lovely stay rooms are very comfortable the breakfast is lovely and the setting is excellent. The only downside is that you don't redeem parking anymore which means if you get a parking space and head out quite often there are weddings which means the hotel parking fills up again which when you're staying isn't great.
Lovely apartment in excellent location a couple of minutes walk from the seafront and the town centre. We have always previously stayed in hotels in Sidmouth, but this was much more convenient, especially with the guaranteed parking space and we would definitely consider staying again. The hosts were very helpful and addressed a small problem we had very quickly.
The hotel staff were very polite & courteous & nothing was too much trouble for them. The ambiance was one of calm & you instantly felt relaxed. Lovely building & decor matched brilliantly. Loved everything about the place. Rooms were large, bed comfortable & food was delicious. Grounds kept very tidy. Easy walk into Sidmouth from the hotel.
Sue made us feel very welcome. the room was spacious, comfortable and well furnished. Breakfast each day was exceptional. The location of Buckley Farmhouse is two miles outside of Sidmouth and therefore you are staying in very quiet countryside, no passing traffic or street lighting to keep you awake.
The hotel is in a good location a very short walk from the beach and Sidmouth itself. My daughter enjoyed using the pool - although the smell of the gym next to it wasn't nice and the surround of the pool wasn't good either - a couple of plastic chairs and some old dirty towels in a basket.
I love this hotel,I've been before and don't feel out of place being on my own. Staff are wonderful and nothing is to much trouble, location excellent. Sidmouth is a gentile resort and is perfect at this time of year for a relaxing break.
The staff was lovely and helpful! I am forever indebted to the desk attendant who helped me zip up my dress for the wedding I was attending as I was traveling alone! Breakfast was fantastic and the location in Sidmouth is amazing!
Friendly and efficient welcome. Choice of rooms. Large comfortable bedroom. Good beer selection and quality. Attractive menu. Good food on the whole. Nice breakfast room and selection. Relaxing vibes. Dog friendly.
Room was warm, clean and quiet, and the shower was easy to operate. The owner was very welcoming and friendly and breakfast was excellent. We will use this guest house again when we're in Sidmouth.
