Historic building on a people scale.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Few silly maintenance things such as toilet seat that didn’t stay up and no record of Wi-Fi code in room.

For a 3 day visit there are plenty of places nearby to visit, including a couple of national trust places (Greenways, Agatha Christies house; and another county home., art deco and with impressive views from the gardens). Brixham was a surprisingly great find too.

Wonderful little town.
Wonderful little town. Very picturesque and some nice hidden nooks and crannies. Enjoyed several river trips, visited Agatha Christies holiday home by boat which was lovely . Some nice pubs in Dartmouth particularly the Seven Stars - oldest pub in town and good food and beer!
Will plan another trip soon!

Being February it wasn't beach weather and we only did a two night mid-week trip. We visited the charming local museum and strolled around the narrow streets and local shops. Dartmouth is built on two sides of a valley but if you don't like walking up hill there is a regular bus to take you around town. We took advice and booked restaurants ahead. The Royal Castle Hotel offers a really good menu in a pub setting where the food and service were excellent. We also ate at the Embankment where the menu is not so traditional but the food was excellent. We took a boat trip with a very entertaining and informative commentary. Sadly the steam train from Kingswear wasn't running mid-week out of season but we drove to Buckfast Abbey which is well worth a visit. Finally we lunched at Rockfish, majoring in fish of course, another excellent meal to set us up for the drive home.

Loved being by the river.
Loved being by the river. Ferries for vehicles or on foot very close to Bayards and reasonably priced.
Ample gift shops, food stores, museums, Information Building (excellent staff) to help.
Walks and historical landmarks nearby, Bayards Cove, Dartmouth Castle (a bit expensive for what we saw and cafe closed an hour earlier than the castle), historical walks to castle.
Plenty of pubs, eating houses etc.
Some restaurants exceptionally expensive but with so many £m's of pounds worth of yachts and boats in harbour, they would cater for everyone.
River cruise lovely to Ditsmarsh there and back, viewing Agatha Christie's house alongside the river.
Could probably stay a week (as opposed to 3 nights) and still enjoy Dartmouth.
Was told that February/March is a good time to visit as Dartmouth is not "too full" and you can get into the pubs and restaurants without queueing. However, some river boats not operating until March/April or May but there were adequate amounts operating for number of people in Dartmouth during February.
A beautiful presented property, elegantly furnished with lots of extra details to make our stay exceptional. The breakfast has a good choice and huge portions , well cooked, nothing was too much trouble . The views of Dartmouth are amazing with a terrace for outside dinning too.
Neil and Keith are such friendly hosts and run the hotel with a smile.
The location is great easy to walk down to Dartmouth with bus stops outside too.
The hotel is beautifully situated in the centre of Dartmouth overlooking the harbour, with attractive views from the breakfast room on the first floor. The hotel has a lovely, characterful pub with a great atmosphere, a good selection of ales and lagers, and good, standard pub food. Breakfast was very good. Managers and bar staff extremely friendly and helpful. Very comfy bed.
Beautifully appointed room, great breakfast and Nikki and Mitch are the very best hosts!! Bistro food is outstanding. Location is quiet but so close to the best areas for discovering historic Dartmouth. We were warmly greeted, and treated like family during our four night stay! A warm and cozy retreat to come back to after a day of exploring. Highly recommended!!!!
We were given a very nice room. Unfortunately, we had an issue with the shower and were immediately given an upgrade to our original room. Excellent service. The staff and management could not be more helpful.
We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel - excellent.
Can thoroughly recommend Brown's Hotel. If we return to Dartmouth our choice of hotel is really easy.
Location, right in the centre of town, and car parking nearby, friendly staff when we found them, clean and fresh with decent shower plenty of tea and coffee and trusted honesty box for extras . Expensive place Dartmouth so fair price considering.
Jean was a very good host. Beautiful house and very comfortable room. Good breakfasts. Good to be able to walk down into Dartmouth along attractive routes and good to be able to catch the regular bus back up the steep hill.
Very well located for the centre of Dartmouth, comfortable living space and good sized bedrooms. Lovely decor and it was warm and cosy. It felt very relaxing and we enjoyed staying there.
Good room above a very old pub in the center of picturesque Dartmouth. Easy to enter the hotel section without going through the pub. Nice to have a carton of real milk provided for tea!
Location is perfect for walking to Bayard's cove, getting a ferry or walking around the shops. The Royal Castle Hotel is opposite the Pontoon.. This is my second stay in 2 months.
Quirky and comfortable accomodation in great location near the river front in Dartmouth. Very friendly staff, nothing too much trouble.. Excellent breakfast. Parking permit included
