BEST WESTERN New Holmwood Hotel, hotel in Cowes

Set in Cowes, Isle of Wight region, BEST WESTERN New Holmwood Hotel is situated 3.5 km from Osborne House.

The evening meals in the restaurant were well-prepared and nicely presented, not big portions. Helpful and friendly front-of-house staff. Very accommodating thank you to them, the staff were a great advert for the island. The bed was fine and big and the bed room furniture was good, not so the rest of the suite.

All aspects outstanding - the history and furnishings were fabulous, the rooms and views over The Solent superb, the welcome warm and hospitable, breakfast choices and quality excellent. Maggie did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable, including offering to dry wet clothes and golf gear for our group of seven - can't thank her highly enough.

Cliffside, hotel in Cowes

Located in Cowes, in a historic building, 25 km from Blackgang Chine, Cliffside is a recently renovated homestay with a garden and tennis court.

Arriving and just stepping into Dan's garden gave me a warm fuzzy feeling that this is was all going to be ok. This is not the place for fans of corporate hotels and sterile, flatpack "boutique apartments". But rather if you want comfortable, relaxing, spacious accommodation with a lovely garden, the sound of birdsong and good conversation then this is the place for you. The house is situated in a green leafy residential area of Cowes. One minute to the beach. 10 minutes walk to the centre of Cowes. (Walking home from Cowes in the evening along the sea into the sunset was a highlight.) Overall the house is well furnished with lovely textiles and fabulous paintings -most done by family members. The bedroom is large, nice cosy carpet, good storage, kettle etc, fresh milk available. The bathroom is not en suite but just next door. Own use. Basin in the bedroom itself. Plenty of space for visitors to spread out in the garden, dining and sitting rooms. Dan lit a fire in the evening which was very welcome. Simple but adequate breakfast of cereal, fruit and croissants served in a lovely dining room overlooking the garden. Comfortable bed. I appreciated the sleep spray! No traffic noise apart from the odd sound from ships at sea. If you dont want to go to Cowes to eat, there is a hotel two minutes walk away that does meals. A slightly longer walk along the coast brings you to Gurnard with a pub overlooking the sea with a huge terrace. Does food. Great sunset views. Thank you Dan for a lovely stay. I hope you gave a good season M

Easy to get around on foot.

Easy to get around on foot. Some lovely local produce & traders as well as the usual High St stores all in close proximity. Lots of good local friendly pubs. Osborne House(connection to queen Victoria & Albert) is within walking distance with a 2 minute trip on the floating bridge (£1.50 return ticket)-this is a National Heritage building. Distinctive Royal mail postbox still in use here & if you use it, the postal stamp with reflect the Victoria & Albert connection. You can visit the tearoom & gift shop but need to pay to enter gardens & house.

I know Cowes well because my mother in law lived there so...

I know Cowes well because my mother in law lived there so for many years I regularly visited her and stayed in the town. Since she died I have not visited as often and hadn't been to the Isle of Wight for two years until I stayed this autumn. It was a quick visit, but the shops in Cowes and the waterfront areas and town beaches are always interesting. I wouldn't stay quite as late in the year again as many places shut at the end of October or by early November, and if they're not shut completely they can be quiet and shut early (eg some of the out of town shops). Even the Cowes shops were beginning to wind down about 4pm on the Saturday and there weren't many people about. So do go but the warmer months and early autumn are probably better as there's more going on and there are more options. We ate at Mojac's and the Pier Inn, both excellent places for evening meals. The Pier Inn is also a pub but has a separate dining area. It was nice to go in pubs and for them not to be crowded but they do shut bang on 11pm.

Easy access to Osborne House in East Cowes.

Easy access to Osborne House in East Cowes. Really worth a visit! The island is very small and so one can drive round it and see lots each day.. Everywhere on the island is less than 35 minutes from Cowes (in October). Lots of good restaurants in Cowes.

We love the Isle of Wight.

We love the Isle of Wight. Beautiful island and I feel so safe there. We ate at The Coast which we thoroughly recommend. Tremendous atmosphere. When we didn't use our car we used a local taxi who were brilliant and never let us down.

We enjoyed our visit although as it was the Isle of Wight...

We enjoyed our visit although as it was the Isle of Wight Festival during our visit traffic queues and road closures were in abundance. We spent a lovely day at the Big Cat sanctuary which was fairly empty making it a good opportunity to see the cats and talk to the keepers who are all so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Great visit. There are lots of shopping facilities, great views and lovely little hamlets and places to visit around the island. The park we stayed in was peaceful but had easy access to Cowes and to the ferry port. Friendly people and we enjoyed great weather.

We were visiting family and attending a wedding, the resort is very busy and cheerful with lovely bats, restaurants and shops and boutiques. The waterfront is very picturesque and attracts visitors of all ages. There isnt to much to do for children that i saw, but maybe thats something to look into.

Really enjoyed our stay at Halcyone. The host, Lee , was very helpful and accommodated to our diet needs. The room looked out at the Cowes harbour and marina. We were able to walk to the town centre in the evenings which was only a 10mins walk (walked slowly as we have a 6yrs old). The cooked breakfast was also very good with hefty portions and we also had choice of a number of cereals and toast. We will be staying there when we're next at the Isle Of Wight.

Hotel was in an excellent location with beautiful sea views, but it was the staff that truly made this hotel exceptional! From the reception staff, through to wait staff, nothing was too much trouble and they were always happy to help or provide suggestions. We took my mother for her 70th birthday and it was a wonderful few days that we will remember for sure. Thank you for your wonderful attention to detail and making this occasion truly special for us.

Sunny and warm. Great location. Staff friendly and supportive. The living room contains the queen size bed as well the sofa(bed). The room is of decent size although it got a bit cramped once the sofa bed was laid out. The kitchenette is a separate room which I prefer. The apartment is on the Cowes high street and there is a taxi rank and bus stop right behind the apartment. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

It was quick to book in with a passcode and order breakfast as it was all done online. Fresh fruit and greek yoghurt was the best in the morning just a sample of what breakfast I had. The room was very clean and comfortable. Bathroom was very clean too. Definitely recommend this guest house to anyone staying at Isle of Wight.

The breakfast was very good. The chef was on holiday when we were there but the mother in the family cooked for us some of the best fish and chips we've ever had. The location of the hotel was fine for us as we had a car but it is some way from the centre of Cowes. All the family were so pleasant and helpful.
