Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The location is perfect. Premises are really good, including a kitchen with all you need. The owner is very friendly and is always willing to give you tips about the area

Lots of rather aggressive mosquitos everywhere, of course out of the control of the Hotel

Very nice owner, cute little Hotel/Hostel in a back street of the main strip. Very clean and cozy. I felt very safe and at home here.

The hostel is very cute. There weren't too many other travellers when I was there (I was by myself in the dorm), so I can't say a lot about how easy it is to socialize - however, the kitchen and the backyard definitely gives the option to do so. The beds were very comfortable, and there was water to refill bottles (for a few pesos). The location is amazing, only a few minutes from the beautiful beaches. The owner is very friendly and made me feel welcome right away, sharing tips and recommendations for the area. I wish I could have stayed longer!

I could not sleep my first night as they have a policy that only one person in a dorm - no air con. Unfortunately i did not see that stated in the information part when i did the reservation. I could have booked a private room instead.
Clean facilities, relaxing hammocks, quiet and peaceful atmosphere.

Very cute, clean and welcoming Hostal, felt very comfortable, the owners are super friendly and give great recommendations. It is quiet, cosy and fits perfectly to the stile of Mahahual. Would anytime come back.

A family run hostel who obviously take pride in their work and wanting comfort for their guests. I really wish them all the best! This is a quiet hostel - perfect if you want time to chill!

The extra 5% charge to pay with a credit card.
The hostel was close to the beach and affordable for Mahahual. The property was clean. There were lots of common areas for relaxing.

Nothing in particular. I hadn't time to use the common kitchen but it looked fine.
Exactly as in the photos. I had a pleasant short stay. There were only 2 people more in the dorm, so I was nice and quiet. Keep in mind that air conditioning is turned on only during the night. There are fans to be used during the day, for me was ok. WiFi on the terrace worked really well, I had to take a meeting and it worked just fine. Oh, they also have bikes for rent.

The hostel has everything. Is simple but it literally has everything you could need and it’s CLEAN. You won’t find anything at that price point in mahahual furthermore the owners are lovely easy to get along and really relax but responsable. It’s just a really nice place to stay at.

Very strictly regulated with rules everywhere. I understand that they may have has issues in the past but the rules could be more diplomatically enforced. Dormitory beds and bathroom were a little rundown.
Staff were helpful in providing advice. Aircon was switched on at 9pm, which was great as it was hot when I was there.

Everything! Ernesto is just wonderful! If you're looking for peace and quiet, you're in the right place. The beds are really comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped. The hang out area is so relaxing and just hanging there, taking in some me-time is no punishment at all ;). At 22:00 sharp, most of the lights go out and you can sit and chat near reception in the hammocks. They are really conciderate of they're guests so I'd probably had the best sleeps ever in a dorm. Didn't want to leave but he was fully booked. Def will return!
