Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomRoom was small and shower room only had room for shower and loo, basin was in room. Given that it was expensive.
Excellent location and food (the reason for our trip). I had been there to eat before but never stayed. The room was recently refurbished and well decorated but was really small. I mean tiny! Not a problem as we only stayed the night arriving late and leaving early but not suitable if you want to sit and read - you need to use the bar for that.

United KingdomThe outside could do with a paint. The breakfast in the morning was not a good as other places we had been staying in during out tour around the Scottish Isles.
A lovely location overlooking the loch. This is a quirky inn and the evening meal in the restaurant was very good, we chose the fish stew. Our bedroom was small which we knew in advance but very well presented and clean

United KingdomBathroom in need of upgrading and whilst I don't like hot bedrooms, the heating wasn't the best.
Have visited Stein and Waternish several times over the past 30 years and always wanted to stay at the Stein Inn, gladly was not disappointed. Dinner on the first night and had mussels in a creamy cider and tarragon sauce which was very very tasty. Excellent service and attention from host Charlie, the ambience and surroundings are so welcoming even when it was so quiet. Great banter with barman whisky Dave too, very knowledgeable of the bar offerings and on his first day on the job too. Excellent and generous breakfast too.

United StatesWe only got one towel each so no hand towel or wash cloth. Though none of the places I stayed in Scotland had a wash cloth. The bed was super comfortable but everything could use some updating.
The scenery was gorgeous. The bar and restaurant area was unique and cozy. The staff were very friendly and gave helpful travel tips too.

United KingdomUnfortunately the shower had no pressure or heat. We turned on as many switches as we could in case it was something we were doing but to no avail. We couldn't see anyone around in the morning to ask if it was something easily fixed. Also very thin walls. We could hear everyone's conversation and the chef yelling for "Service!". Would go again though because the views are great and the food was better.
The restaurant was brilliant, fabulous food and service even though they appeared short staffed. We had the budget room which was small but pleasant with a lovely view. I would go again but choose a larger room.

Great food. Though staff off on a Monday and breakfast is self service, so a bit disappointing, particularly as we weren't told about this in advance.

United StatesThere is WAY too much stuff on the walls, most of which did not fit with the overall aesthetic of the Inn. You could take 70-80% off the stuff off the walls and it would still feel well-decorated with appropriate items. Also, the beds weren't the most comfortable - we felt they could use at least a mattress topper.
If you've ever read Harry Potter, this place felt like "The Burrow." Extremely cozy, quiet, remote, in a beautiful location, and lots of friendly faces. This was exactly the kind of place my wife and I were looking for after a long day of driving. Even better, the dinner was exceptional! We ordered the langoustines which arrived off the boat about an hour before we got there, the haggis, chowder and goat cheese. All very affordable and excellent.

United StatesOnly complaint would be the price, as it is rather far from many of the large attractions on Skye, however some may see the remoteness as a positive.
The pub downstairs was quite nice, and luckily we were able to get in, despite our late arrival. The complimentary water and tea was quite nice, with ample heating options for the cold night outside. The bed was comfortable and welcoming, and great shower water pressure! Very tasty breakfast

GermanyWe had dinner at the Inn as well which looked and tasted great but we had to wait almost one and a half hours after ordering until our meals arrived
The location is absolutely beautiful overlooking Lochbay and some benched tables to sit outside to enjoy drinks and food from the inns restaurant and bar. The Inn has a lot of Charme due to its age but was nicely renovated. Loved the stay there with an insane view of the sunset.
