Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomHut was fully equipped with cutlery, plates, cups and glasses. Along with a variety of teas and coffee, with fresh milk in the fridge. Hut was spotlessly clean and all bedding and towels were lovely and fresh.

United KingdomA tip for guests with a car, it is best to park on main road of the farm and not directly through the gate in front of the hut, for ease of parking.
The shepherds hut is perfectly located on the outskirts of Durham, with great scenic views and tranquility. The furnishings are of excellent quality, comfy double bed and perfect little kitchen and bathroom. Amy had excellent communication after booking and made the trip stress free, with easy access self check in.

United KingdomNothing that we didn't like - it was a great experience. Very very minor improvements could make more use of the space eg some shelves, but that's being very pernickety because it was great!
Good location for Durham city. Idyllic location with lovely garden. We had superb weather so left the doors and windows open, even at night. Quite a lot of traffic noise, but other than that it's a romantic little getaway!

Hut was spotless, cosy and well stocked

United KingdomWhen it's warm outside, there are a lot of midges on an evening so it can make it difficult to sit outside as they are all around you. Also could do with a dustpan and brush adding as you take a lot of one of the trees inside the hut as it is all over the floor on entrance but these are very small things and easily overcome.
Lovely place, close enough to Durham but also far enough away to be really peaceful. Lovely accommodation, plenty of space, well stocked and lovely for eating outside. Lovely wild area and backs on to two fields, resident squirrel and rabbits seen. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend a visit if you are in Durham.

United Kingdomnothing at all. A small shelf in the bathroom would have been useful for toiletries.
Beautifully appointed, warm and spacious, well equipped, comfortable bed with sumptuous linen, gorgeous scenery, conveniently located for bus and Uber. Beamish is well worth a visit and the nearby farm shop does amazing breakfasts!

JerseyThe thought of having to leave on Tuesday 😥😩.
The Shepherds Hut was an amazing find and so happy that we didn’t go to a hotel in the city centre, especially as the weather has been so good. We have been able to totally relax, sit outside for breakfast, dinner and tea - the sunrises and sunsets are truly beautiful as well as the views in general. Shepherds Hut is really cute and we are amazed at how well stocked the kitchen is as well as the bathroom - so much thought has been put into it (it’s better stocked than my kitchen at home!). The garden also delight again, well thought out and completely natural which fits in so well with the surrounding fields. Fresh bed linen, towels, tea towels etc. are all provided with the owners taking care of them being washed, beds changed and we only have to ask and spare ones are delivered straight away. The owners are lovely too - not intrusive at all but on hand if needed. I can honestly say that I have never had a break quite like this and I know that this relaxing feeling and memories will last for a long time. To sum it up we were just coming for a short Thursday - Sunday 3 night break but extended to make a total of 12 nights and would extend it further if the plane tickets back to Jersey weren’t so expensive (that’s how lovely it is). Shepherds Hut is a little hidden away gem that I’m sure will take anyone away from the hassle, bustle, stress and strains of every day life.

United KingdomThe Shepherd Hut at Wellsprings is a lovely cosy delightful spot to stay in. The bed is super comfy and the views across the open countryside are lovely. It’s very private. The kitchen area is very well equipped for eating in and was spotlessly clean. The hut maintains a very even temperature so it was never cold. And the hosts are very friendly, accommodating and helpful.
