Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GermanyApart from an exceptional stay in this beautiful hotel (and this was our second visit - see previous review) we were able to have a private dinner, which is usually only offered when there is a booking of at approx. 12 people. We were very lucky that there was a birthday party on the evening of 11th May and that made it possible to have an outstanding dinner experience with a great garden view (and the weather was nice as well). We will definitely be back to visit this hotel again. Great experience. Great old mansion house with outstanding interior design.

GermanyThe hotel is a very nice old mansion house with a large garden. The interior design is absolutely exceptional. The garden is outstanding and very quiet. The breakfast was great and overall the stay was the best we have had in a long time in a hotel. Philippe was a very nice host who made our stay memorable and we will definitely come back as soon as possible. PS: There is a tram station right next to the hotel which made it very easy to visit the city center of Valenciennes.

United KingdomIt's some distance from the centre, although the host was happy to call us a taxi. Trams stop directly outside, and I would have used these if staying for longer.
Breakfast was very good (French style) and the host sugested a wide range of extras. The parking was very secure behind locked gates. Decoration was eclectic and reflected the host's calling as an artist and interior designer. Room was large, beautifully furnished, and had a pleasant view of the garden. Cost was very reasonable (about the same as dinner for two in the town!) Tram stop right outside the gate.

United KingdomNothing springs to mind, particularly. We did have a drunk follow us through the parking gate, and it took me a few minutes to get rid of him. So we took special care to ensure the gate was closed before we walked away each time thereafter. Not a "didn't like", just a personal learning point for when we return.
Perfect host, Philippe. Very welcoming, friendly, helpful, fluent English to go with his natural French. The artwork all over the hotel is both eclectic and wonderful. Delightful gardens. Dinner wasn't available, but based on the exceptional breakfast, I'm sure dinner would be equally good. Room was very spacious & comfortable.

BelgiumAlthough it is located in what seems to be the most rundown suburb of Valenciennes, it is a nicely restored old house with a nice small garden and a very short drive or tram ride to the centre of town.
It felt like staying with old friends!

United States of AmericaThe owner was so kind. All the staff was so helpful. The breakfast was great! The garden was beautiful, and the decor was eclectic and pleasing. There was a cat and a dog and we really felt like part of the family. The owner made a great recommendation for dinner, and we had a nice time at this restaurant.

LuxembourgGood stop over, but Valenciennes is definitely a place you can afford to avoid. Run-down, much destroyed during WW1, and not very well rebuilt.
End of 18th/beginning of 19th century mansion, furbished somewhat eclectically but with a lot of taste. Comfortable rooms and beds, convenient bath room, and ... if you go there, take the dinner option: worth it. Nice park to have a drink in. Very safe parking (walled in). Agreeable and very helpful owner/manager that will advise you on what to do.

FranceThe surroundings are not the best of the town.
The atmosphere of the place is wonderful. The hotel is in a former charming "Maison de maître", a very romantic and calm place. The taste of decoration of the owner is fantastic and could directly come out of a Wes Anderson's movie! It is an amazing place to stay for work but also with your loved one.

United KingdomWe were on the top floor and it was a bit of a struggle with our bags on the winding staircase. Also didn't realise we had to pre-book dinner but the host did book a restaurant for us which was a 30 minute walk.

GermanyPhilippe is a great host! He makes you feel welcome and invited to explore the house and the grounds — and there is a lot to explore! While looking around, you instantly think of a whole bunch of friends and relatives who would LOVE the place and should follow your recommendation. Much rather you would love to take along next time to hang out in the garden. What a great place and a very nice owner. Wherever you travel to in France coming from Northern Europe make sure you stop here for a night before your journey continues.

IrelandThe host wasn't as friendly as previous reviews seemed to indicate. He was polite, but encounters felt a bit awkward. Like I was a guest in his house sort of and was conscious of his presence. There was no bath, which was annoying as my booking specifically said there was a bath. I searched properties which offered a bath..
It was right beside the tram, the building was very nice. Secure parking.
