Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsShower was cold. Receptionist was a bit pushy about the tours at the beginning. You can hear the noise from other rooms easily.
Great location, and view on the water if you get the right room. Clean.

SpainGood location and good breakfast. Perfect to chill in the afternoon with the channel views. They organize night and early morning tours with local guides to see animals (also turtles). We strongly recomend our local guide Reynaldo Brown, biologist who lives in Tortuguero and has dedicated 25 years to study animals. We were lucky to see a couple of Toucans and Porcupins sleeping in the trees at night thanks to him.

NetherlandsAmazing location right on the river (the ferry even drops you off and picks you up on the deck). Nice and helpful staff that help organise great tours through the national park. Luiz was amazing. A very knowledgable local guide that took us on a lovely boat trip through the canals and wildlife. Breakfast was nice and plentiful and served right when returning from the tours.

FinlandExcellent location next to the river. Very friendly and heartfelt staff. In evenings it was very pleasant to sit at a deck chair and enjoy the scenery, birds and nature. Very close to the awesome Tortuguero national park. Louis was all about nature knowing and very experienced guide who gave us an unforgettable experience of the park and animals. Saw sloths, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, white faced capuchin monkeys, caimans and even a tapir on a river trip to the mainland.

GermanyThe house is in the center, which gives you the whole experience, but it is also quite loud in the nights (we had a room the street).
The personal was very friendly and the service was great. The situation at the water is very special, we enjoyed the terrace a lot. The boat gets you right to the deck. The rooms are simple, clean and the breakfast is good.

United StatesAccess from the boat….ability to drop and pickup guests at hotels dock makes it special. Choose either Fresa or Kendal. Good hot breakfast, next to the river !! Breakfast is open till 10 that allows guests returning from morning tour to have breakfast which apparently is not true for every hotel. Our room had air-conditioning which worked great and wifi seemed to hold well too. Close to everything. Great to sit by the river and watch. Hotel does offer tours though we didn’t use them. Though it wasn’t a problem for us, reception closes at 4 PM, which seems standard in Tortugeuro.

United StatesCasa Marbella was clean and comfortable, and the location is ideal! The front of Casa Marbella is on the main pedestrian street (no cars) a 10-minute walk from the National Park entrance. The back of the hotel is directly on the water with a very large, covered porch where guests eat breakfast in the morning and watch birds and river boat traffic all hours. Water taxis can pick up and drop you off directly at the hotel's dock, so there is no need to carry luggage from the public dock 2 blocks away. Best of all, Casa Marbella has its own wildlife guide, Luis, whose family has lived on Tortuguero for several generations. Luis is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about nature and speaks English. Luis starts his guided 6pm night animal walks and 5:30am morning canal boat tours of the National Park at the hotel porch/dock. This eliminates stress. You can register for Luis's guided activities at the hotel reception desk, then sit in porch chairs looking at the water while waiting for the tour to begin. I took my family (including 87-year old Mom) on 2 night walks and 2 canal explorations with Luis while staying at Casa Marbella in early February, 2024. The group sizes were pleasantly small, with 3-6 participants in the night walks and a maximum of 10 people on his canal boat. I recommend Casa Marbella very highly!

Costa RicaTortuguero town is small and there are not too many hotel options. The town is like 1km long and all is walking or bike distance (no cars). I am glad we chose Casa Marbella, it is in a great location - it has the river on one side and the main (small) street on the other - the supermarket is at the front, 5 minute walk to the beach (not to swim as it is dangerous), 15 minute walk to the National Park and 2 minute walk to the public boat station. The hotel has a dock on the river so we asked the public boat to drop us directly at the hotel, very convenient. It is a small nice hotel well maintained, the rooms are comfortable and some of the upstairs rooms have a small balcony with a nice river view. Next to the dock there is a terrace nice to view the sunset. It was a little hot at night and no A/C but there was a fan. The breakfast is good, at 5am they make coffee which was nice to have before we left to our National Park tour at 6am, at 9am we came back to have fresh breakfast and before 11am we did the check out to take the 11am public boat back. It is not a hostel but they have a fridge for guests to use which is also nice. In summary, we considered it was great value for money and we really recommend it.

GermanyVery simple hostel; no aircon, breakfast was a of glas juice, some fruit and either pancakes or egg/toasted bread and rooms were old and not super clean and our teenager refused to shower while there. Laid back management; e.g. we were booked for morning visit to park and told to be ready 5:50 sharp, but our captain was still preparing boat at 6:05 which meant we were last in line to enter reserve, so only 6:45 we left ranger station to enter reserve. Tortuguero is the least civilized place in Costa Rica we visited; costs for tours change with 20-30% depending on your hackling skills. And the ferry operator Fersa scammed us to take their ferry instead of public (because they somehow had our names and gave us the impression it was ordered from Marbella), is was 50% more expensive and we had to wait for another 30 minutes - not a great welcome😟 Tortuguero is DEFINITELY worth a visit, but mange your expectations - it is in all sense of the ‘beaten track’ 😊😊
Really great deck with view to the canal. 2 minutes walk from public ferry.
