Hotel in Pakse
Set in Pakse, less than 1 km from Pakse Bus station, Intouch Riverside Hotel offers accommodation with free bikes, free private parking and an outdoor swimming pool. After roughing it a bit at Si Phan, this place seemed quite luxurious. Nice rooftop pool, good breakfast, good size room with view of the Mekong, extremely clean, huge bed! The staff were very pleasant. The roadworks that a few reviews mentioned didn't bother us at all. Local dining options are limited, but for Thai Lao fusion food, head out the hotel front door and turn left and then take the first left street. Walk approx 100 or so metres to just beyond the 2 zebra crossings and on the right is Cham Pahom Restaurant. From the outside it looks a bit rough but it's actually very interesting and quirky on the inside, full of antiques and curios. The food is excellent and inexpensive, ice cold beer. Run by an interesting Thai bloke with great staff.

For the second largest town In Laos , Pakse is a very low key chilled place with friendly locals, very cheap restaurants and excellent Mekong sunsets. Access to Mekong Islands, world heritage ( and very well organised) temple at Champasak and waterfalls/ coffee plantations on the Bolivan Plateau are easy from Pakse. You can walk or Tuk Tuk around town. We ate at Daolin, Sabadei 2 and Salachampa beer garden - recommend all. Nothing to avoid next time.
Go to Champasak to see the temple. If you have not been to Angkor, that is. Forget the rest. As: popular places in this review: HOSPITAL??? Surely not popular among travellers!
It's a small place and a quiet stop on the route south to Si Phan Don. The main attraction was Wat Phou - very beautiful Khmer ruins. You can get yourself there by bike/motorbike easily enough or pay for a tuktuk/minivan to take you, wait and bring you back. There aren't masses of restaurants or bars but most guest houses have good restaurants attached which you can pick and choose from. The buses from Pakse (north) or Si Phan Don (south) will drop you on the other side of the river and you will need to walk down a short road to get to the small port where a boat will take you across for a small fee. From the port in Champasak it can be a fair walk to your guesthouse but as usual there is normally a tuktuk about if needed.
It is a good gateway to the Bolowen Plateau, to Wat Phou in Champasak and to the 4000 islands in the South. Very tasty restaurant on road 13 the Sabaidee Pakse restaurant!
With its strategic location close to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam and easy access to places of interest in Champasak Province such as Four Thousand Islands, Vat Champasak and the Bolaven Plateau, the city of Pakse has rapidly developed since my last visit here in 2001. While lacking in the slow relaxed atmosphere of most other destinations in Laos, Pakse offers lots of possibilities for eating out, transportation to places within the province, elsewhere in Laos and neighbouring countries and is also a good base to make travel plans for activities such as trekking. Green Discovery are a helpful and professionally run agency specialising in adventure activities.
French run Chez Maman is a good place for a coffee break, and Homemade restaurant is a good place for food. Wat Phou 10km away is very nice, but I would have been happy going there directly from Pakse on an admittedly longer day trip and avoiding nights in Champasak.
interesting spot for tourist to visit is always far from town and you need to join a group tour if you plan budget trip or to charter a private car which cost much higher. There are many beautiful waterfalls in Champasak province which worth to visit
WE stayed at the River Resort Hotel in Champasak Province, (and near Champasek town) in South Western Laos. We loved the River Resort. It was a wonderful place to stay. The resort was great. The food was great. The service was great. From The River Resort, we took several full day trips with a guide to see surrounding natural areas. We also took several half-day trips by ourselves-- without a guide--- and that also worked out very well. We would highly recommend a visit to this part of Laos, and we very highly recommend the River Resort as a place to stay.
It’s just a normal Laotian community. Nothing wrong with it at all but not a tourist location. The best thing about Champasak is The River Resort!
Laid back, beautiful scenery and people. Relaxing. We enjoyed trip to 4000 Islands, saw the Irrawaddy dolphins, zip lining brilliant fun. We cycled to Champasak village a few times and ate locally.
Champasak
The property is located in the Don Daeng island and the hotel picked us up by boat in Champasak in front of the island. We absolutely loved the rides on that small boat across the Mekong River and the views from the hotel. The swimming pool is beautiful and we were very happy to support a hotel with such sustainability and community support standards.

Clean, comfortable and very nice location in the heart of Champasak.
Where do I start? This property is perfect in every way. Beautiful spacious room overlooking The Mekong, the staff are wonderful and the food delicious. Be sure to wake for the sunrise, it was exceptional. We were sad to leave today, if you find yourself in this part of Laos I highly recommend The River Resort ❤️
- For the price the stay was okay
Good hotel, early check in was available. Nice breakfast and great spa with reasonable prices
Staff was exceptionally helpful. Views spectacular.
Big room, clean. Great location, nice staff
Most comfortable beds in Laos. If your doing the small loop good stop off before Champosak Pool was amazing with a sauna as well...
Not too far from everything that you need, nice room but bathroom is a bit underwhelming. Useful that you can rent bikes, do laundry and there is a restaurant.
Nice location at the wetlands, all cabins with a sunrise view. Same goes for the pool. Hiking directly from lodge the some interesting points of view. Excellent food and very friendly staff:)
