San Antonio in Texas is home to 2 of the state’s top attractions: The Alamo and the Riverwalk. One of the city’s former Spanish missions, the Alamo was the site of a deadly battle that cost folk hero Davy Crockett his life. The other remaining missions - Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, and Espada with its aqueduct - are dotted around the city. The attractive Spanish Governor’s Palace also remains.
The San Antonio River runs right through the city, below street level. Known as the Riverwalk, its banks have been cleverly developed to house riverfront restaurants, bars and shops, and are spectacularly lit for Christmas. There are several San Antonio hotels by the Riverwalk which are also close to the Rivercenter Mall, the city’s biggest shopping center, while La Villita artisan village has more traditional crafts.
Across the road in Hemisfair is the Tower of the Americas, a tall observation tower with a revolving restaurant overlooking the Alamodome, a huge sports and convention venue, home to the annual Alamo Bowl collegiate football game. Booking.com has several San Antonio hotels near the Alamodome, and more accommodations near San Antonio Airport.
On the outskirts of the city are Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The city also hosts the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the country’s biggest Western events.
The location cannot be beat. Would have loved if there was a rooftop pool. The lighting in the rooms was too cold and bright. We ate at Esquire Tavern, Hugman's Oasis and Tokyo Cowboy - all were great!

We were only in San Antonio for two days, mainly to support a relative at Lackland AFB. There's a lot to do in San Antonio (experience from previous visits). The city has "aged", with a ton of highway/street construction that is irritating but expected with growth and updates. Using your GPS is really essential to find your destinations.

WE visit here to mostly see my sister but we always find something to see even if it's the old towns around San Antonio. Lots of festivals here too. don't miss the music and the River walk and the Alamo and other historic buildings.

Definitely do the mission walk.
Definitely do the mission walk. Go down the river, on a bike if possible, and hit every mission. They are gorgeous and so is the river.
Riverwalk is okay, but very commercialized. It's not relaxing or enchanting. A little chaotic and corporate.
The art museum is excellent. Botanical garden is good too.
Food is great!
3 days will give you plenty of time to see everything.

We loved the River Walk and went almost everywhere using it.
We loved the River Walk and went almost everywhere using it. The Museum of Art is fantastic-so is the restaurant there- Tre Trattoria. The Pearl is a fun spot especially on the weekends when the outdoor vendors are there. Ladino Restaurant was our favorite meal. The river tour was fun too, and you can also catch a shuttle on the river.
There are lots of breweries. My favorite was Roadmap, and Back Unturned was good too with great pizza.

For this trip to San Antonio (eclipse day pass was booked at the Adega Vinho Winery) I primarily limited my adventures to the Rivewalk area with a haunted pub crawl and a tour of 4 Spanish Missions. The Hotel Contessa was right on the river walk path and within walking distance either down along the river, or at street level. Three nights was about right, although I should have allowed time for a dip in the rooftop heated pool.
A fantastic experience from the moment we arrived. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. A lovely hotel in a perfect location. The room was fantastic with a comfortable bed and pillows, there was even a refrigerated drawer which was fairly big. The bathroom was spacious with a fabulous shower. There was even a magnified makeup mirror. The bar and restaurant were outstanding, I recommend both.
Great access to the Riverwalk.
The hotel was a lovely historic building right on the Riverwalk. The staff were helpful and friendly. I chose an inside room and it was large, had high ceilings and the bed was comfortable. Total bonus…homemade breakfast and dinner provided for free and, both days and nights, they had different offerings. A really nice bonus after a long hot day out sightseeing. I would stay here again.
Location was everything!!!
We booked something not on the riverwalk but also not too far away and we're very surprised at how amazing the location was. Right next to the shopping strip, quiet at night even with all the hustle and bustle. Literally a stones throw from the Alamo and less than a 5 minute walk to the riverwalk. Loved the hotel itself.
Beautifully restored hotel. Room was large and airy, bed extremely comfortable, beautiful bathroom. Sparkling clean and very quiet. Staff always friendly, prompt, and helpful. Easy approximately 2-3 block walk through a park to conference center and to Riverwalk. Highly recommend, will absolutely stay here again for next visit to San Antonio.
Home2 Suites has not disappointed us yet. We really enjoyed our stay. The property is located right on the Riverwalk in San Antonio and you can walk down to the Riverwalk from the hotel lobby. The rooms are always well-lit and spacious. The beds are comfortable and there is so much storage.
Travelodge by Wyndham San Antonio's downtown is a great place to stay if you're looking for a best hotel. It's right next to the Alamo and not too far away from the airport. The rooms are very clean! The 24-hour reception service is amazing! I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone!
It is charming and quaint. An old Victorian home with lots of character right on the Riverwalk, with a view from our room of the riverwalk and downtown. Excellent and preferable option to the sleek tourist/business hotels downtown. Lovely host, and very nice other guests.
Very close to the Riverwalk but not as overpriced as the hotels directly on it. Free parking. Texas-shaped (fresh) waffles for breakfast. I found this really nice for the affordable price. HEB market incl. gas station right next to it.
Superb hotel in great location virtually next to Alamo and 5 min walk to riverwalk. Historic building with bags of charm and character and spacious rooms with good facilities. Breakfast outstanding and friendly helpful staff
The location of this hotel is excellent. Right by the riverwalk and easy to walk into central San Antonio. The hotel is also beautifully old-fashioned. The Ocho restaurant is also very good. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
When you are checking in you get offered wine, how cool is that. The property is right on the riverwalk which is great. The hotel itself is so modern, cozy and with San Antonio written all over it. Will be coming back.
Excellent friendly staff, Brittany at reception is a huge ball of happiness and an asset to this hotel. Great location, outstanding room, easy walk to the riverwalk, nice breakfast included. Would stay again!
This hotel was amazing! We were located right on the Riverwalk. Everywhere we wanted to go was within walking distance. Our room was clean. The hotel was nice. Breakfast was amazing.
The location of course! San Antonio’s Famous Riverwalk! Awesome hotel! Great open bar during happy our for guests. Awesome culture! Room was amazing! Clean and comfortable.
Very close to riverwalk. Business class hotel, all service is of high level. Room is very clean and there is possibility to tune the temperature. Very good bath room!
Charming historic hotel. Didn’t eat in the restaurant but food looked good and very close to the Riverwalk. Rooms well restored, with nice new bathrooms.
