Paradise Found: Zanzibar's Enchanting Beauty
Zanzibar is simply one of the best places on Earth. Its beaches are nothing short of breathtaking, with pristine sands so fine they feel like silk beneath your toes. The tranquil waters, gentle and calm, create a mesmerizing backdrop that captivates the soul. My love for this place knows no bounds; it's a sanctuary of unparalleled beauty and serenity.

It was lovely and we got to see the history of the slave trade (albeit sadly as it was a horrendous practice). The beaches are also very beautiful (Jambiani Beach was where we mostly went.) The spice farm tour and markets were lovely as we got all kinds of fresh spices.
However, it is very tourist-centric. Payment is in dollars everywhere and people are always trying to sell you something. Feels very commercialised.

Dirty, smelly, full of approaching ~beach boys, sellers and beggars. Much more aggressive than up north. Mostly came for a Nakupenda tour. Nice place but be aware that it’s crowded - by lots of tourists and then of course even the aggressive up in your face wanting to touch you sellers there too.
The more upscaled beach hotels and restaurants are nice though.

Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence.
Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence. It is worth taking the boat to prison island to learn more about the history and see the turtles. 2 days is sufficient. In the evening there is a night market with different food stalls.

Lots of shops in Stonetown selling the same.
Lots of shops in Stonetown selling the same. Plenty of souvenirs to buy. Check Darajani market for good bargains. Don't forget the spice market.
Avoid shopping in Darajani street. Not for tourists.
Relaxed lunches at the high terraces of the Swahili house and Emerson house.
Supper at Lukmaan (reasonable and cheap), Masa Japanese Restaurant (good and reasonably priced), and Krishna Food House (good and reasonably priced).
Hotel outside area was nice, restaurant was pretty in evenings (needed more lighting at restaurant). Beach was nice but didn’t look like pictures on Booking.com. Comfy loungers. Large bed and spacious room. Aircon and Wi-Fi worked well. Hotel was close to airport and 10 min drive from stone town. Locals were nice on the beach. The cats were super friendly and looked like they were looked after. Pool was nice. Manager asked us for our opinion on hotel before leaving and listened to our considerations which was nice.
Forodhani is my second home in Stone Town. Competitive rates, big spacious rooms, and a nice basic breakfast to get you going. The hotel is in the best location. Across the road from Forodhani Park which is the central attraction in Stone Town for its famous night food markets. Also close to the beach. The hotel is a walking distance from the Ferry terminal. A great swimming pool on the rooftop. The staff is always great, welcoming, and considerate.
The staff is amazing. Food at the restaurant is good. Rooftop is nice. Location is right in the middle of Stone Town. This hotel allows you to be a part of the city without being contaminated by tourism. I recommend the hotel if you want to breath the local culture and encounter locals.
2/3 nights is enough.
Not recommended if you are looking for a European fancy beach with 5 stars service and no contact with local culture.
At this hotel you really feel at home! The beautiful building has a gorgeous breeze throughout and stunning greenery all around. Just a ten minute walk away is a beautiful beach which is perfect to spend the day at. Stone Town is a 15 minute ride away and within walking distance there are a handful of places you can eat at! The staff is particularly great and we were well taken care of by Ali who was attentive and kind!!
The old palace is wonderful to visit and the rooms are big and very comfortable. We stayed in a nice room with a balcony. The swimming pool is clean and enjoyable, definitely a good advantage of the hotel after a long walk in Stone Town during the day. 10/10 for the position as it's in the city center and all places and restaurants in stone town are reachable by foot.
Beautiful and original, colonial style hotel located perfectly on the beach road. Very friendly and accommodating staff. The price was reasonable and well worth
As we were leaning for the airport late in the evening we were very pleased we were allowed to stay at the pool and use all hotel facilities even if we had checked out. Will be back.
Beautiful hotel in Stone Town, perfectly located to visit the city center walking and to take a boat to Prison Island. The room was comfortable and clean with hot shower. Breakfast is also very nice and served on a beautiful terrace. The owner and the staff were so nice and friendly, really supportive. We would definitely come back!
The location of the hotel is excellent in stone town. The staff is very friendly and we met the manager Danielle who was very welcoming and nice. The room and the decorations are exquisite, unique, clean and comfortable. The food as well is delicious. The view from the rooftop is amazing as well on the harbour.
friendly staff like in all Zanzibar, it’s good located! clean and safe!

This hotel is right in stone town so good location to explore. The staff made us feel special with rose petals and room decorated after informing them of our engagement
The rooftop was lovely to see sunset and good drinks
The breakfast was really good!

Beautiful hotel with a great location next to the food market and on the beach. The Hotel is historic and the maintenance is top notch. Beautiful historic beauty without the usually low quality of maintenance that normally accompanies historic buildings.
Tembo Hotel has a great location beside the beach and within Stone Town. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a historical building and has a lot of character. It's really easy to organise transport and tours through reception.
Nice boutique hotel with great helpful staff. The location is very close to the airport and city center. The sea view during high tide is magnificent! Great room size. I would recommend for short stays.
This hotel has a great location. It is close to the beach and all the major sights in stone town. Rooms are comfortable and clean and I looked forward to breakfast everyday. Very nice spanish omelets.
