A vibrant city with calmer beaches and busy markets.
A vibrant city with calmer beaches and busy markets. The people are incredibly friendly. I would go again as I didn't have time to fully explore.
On the plateau, explore the historic memory island of Gorée, go to the HLM market, the textiles market in Sandaga, the food market of Kermel. If you have time, go to the beach in Ngor and swim to Ngor island. Eat some local grilled fish and fresh veges.
Just drink bottled water :)

Senegal has very friendly people with lots of places to see and visit. It's easy to move around either by hailing Taxis or using the Yango ride app.
I enjoyed my visits to the Marché Soumbédioune. Here, you can buy authentic African craft from the Artisanal Village. Nearby is the Soumbédioune sea food market where you can buy a variety of fresh and grilled sea food to delight your palate. I enjoyed a meal of grilled fish and fries here.
The Mosque of Divinity and African Renaissance Monument are also 2 nice places I saw.
Before leaving for Ghana, I stopped by the Sea Plaza shopping mall to buy gifts for my friends and family back at home.

Good for seasoned travelers who like to get with the people.
Good for seasoned travelers who like to get with the people. Senegal is a fast-growing region with plenty of young people. Dirt roads are the main surface in Dakar but once out of town, you will find modern highways.

Hi
My is name is Al. I was born in Guinea but grew up in America. I was in Senegal to visit families.
Good:
The place was wonderful. Clean. The pool was clean and everything else.
The bad
The big refrigerator was not working but the provided small one new. Some of the toilets has issue draining water. But with the host Babacar everything was possible. The guy was excellent, nice and very disponible. Always available when needed something. If it wasn’t him, I wouldn’t have stay there during my stay. Because of the address

I felt safe and there were many things to see. The people I encountered were beyond friendly and helpful. I took a taxi a few times and the drivers were fair. I walked around the city during the day and at night and felt comfortable. The beach was very nice and clean.

Traveling by bus from Gambia to Senegal was not a good...
Traveling by bus from Gambia to Senegal was not a good experience. The actual Driving time should have been not more than 6hrs but we took almost 11hrs due to check points....The officers were very aggressive, rude and very very unfriendly. Maybe flying might be better. I will never go into Senegal via bus from Gambia. Ironically the bus from Gambia was a Gambia government owned commercial buses.
I have stayed in Dakar before and seen La Madrague from the outside. It is located adjacent to a beach opposite the island of Ngor. It is a lovely view and, for me, well situated. It is far enough from the city centre to be relatively peaceful but close enough to other facilities, restaurants, clubs etc for there to be variety. The hotel pool was meticulously clean, the food available from the restaurant was very good and the other residents were quiet, polite and well behaved.
The breakfast was superb. The chef and waitresses are good at what they do.
The receptionists were excellent in their doings. Monsieur Hammodou Doudou Diagne and a lady (I can't remember her name now)went extra ways to make our stay more comfortable.
AXIL hotel provides services of a 5star hotel. Definitely I will stay here if I found my way back to Dakar anytime. Meaning, that I can boldly recommend this hotel to any would be tourist that visits Dakar.
This hotel is an excellent value. The location is safe and Almadies is a great neighborhood central to lots of shops, restaurants and nice hotels. The staff was AMAZING with all of our requests, holding our luggage and arranging laundry to be done. It’s not a 5* hotel but it’s well designed, clean and comfortable. The staff really made the experience wonderful. Rating was reduced because the pool wasn’t open when we stayed.
Hotel staff helps with all you need: taxi, money changing, drinks etc. F.e. we wanted to go to the south of Senegal, they arranged a reliable driver and lots of useful info.
English is very good(no Dutch:-(...) and Mme Ruth is native german speaking. Rooms are not new, but shower and beds are good. Location is not central, but close enough: between 4 and 10 euro, taxi takes you everywhere in town.
A little quiet getaway in busy Dakar. The hotel is lovely, rooms are beautiful and private, with greenery everywhere. The receptionists were always very helpful. Breakfast was so great, we never left with an empty stomach. Also had dinner at the restaurant and were satisfied.
The staff were amazing and took really good care of me while I was there. I got sick on my first day and they were very kind. I caught a taxi from one side of Dakar to the hotel and the hotel staff kept in touch throughout the hour journey just to check that I was alright.
The hotel is located in the only neighbourhood you’d want to stay in while in Dakar. A very quiet location, a stone’s throw from the beach and some good restaurants and cafes. The hotel sports a fantastic lush and tropical inner courtyard with a swimming pool.
The hotel was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful and organised airport transfers and tours and drivers around Dakar. They also let us keep our bags there when we went to Ile de Gorée and helped us with all our requests.
I liked the hotel very much, only one thing, the meals were expensive and not particularly Senegalese so for that Senegalese flavor you need to eat out. I didn’t want American or European food
This was a areal pleasant surprise for me. the hotel has small bungalows with your own patio. I loved every bit of it. Great breakfast and food.. In Dakar that is my place to stay
Breakfast, style and decoration, garden, room, kindness of hostess and staff, generosity. Very peaceful and pretty hotel isolated from the noise and the pollution of Dakar.
