FAQs about hotels in Bratislava

Capital With a Small Town Feel

Charming and compact Bratislava is the world’s only capital city bordering two countries, Austria and Hungary, and centers around the beautiful Danube River. South is the modern city and a peaceful forest, but the real Bratislava attractions are over Novy Most (New Bridge), an impressive structure with a UFO-like pylon. The castle on a rock overlooking the Old Town offers the best views of it. The rock itself has a Jewish cemetery and a literally underground club.

Across the street, St. Martin’s Cathedral was the coronation site of past Hungarian kings. The cobbled streets behind are lined with outdoor restaurants and bars. The city’s specialty is treska, a cold cod salad, washed down with white wine from the nearby Small Carpathian mountains.

The main square is Hlavne namestie, home to pastel-colored buildings, a 14th-century town hall housing the city museum, and the Bratislava Christmas markets. Hodzovo namestie square features the Peace Earth sculpture and Baroque Grassalkovich Palace, the presidential residence guarded by the Slovak National Guard. Across the park is the Archiepiscopal Palace, seat of the government. All around are many Bratislava hotels, B&Bs and apartments available on Booking.com.

Before heading to Bratislava Airport, visit Kamzìk TV tower, whose revolving restaurant and observation deck offer magnificent city views.

A Memorable Journey in Bratislava: Embracing Culture and...

A Memorable Journey in Bratislava: Embracing Culture and Spirituality My first venture into Bratislava, Eastern Europe, as a woman of African descent, was met with both excitement and uncertainty. However, the city's warm hospitality exceeded my expectations, enveloping me in kindness throughout my stay. Bratislava's old town, with its cobblestone streets and historic landmarks like the enchanting Blue Church, offered a captivating glimpse into the city's rich cultural heritage. Amidst this picturesque backdrop, MonDieu café became a cherished retreat, fostering moments of reflection and connection. Exploring the city's vibrant culture, I was captivated by the soul-stirring melodies of folk music and the bustling atmosphere of outdoor grill places. Yet, it was the genuine warmth of the locals, from hotel staff to taxi drivers, that truly made Bratislava feel like home. Despite the long train journey from Geneva, Switzerland, every moment in Bratislava was filled with wonder and delight. Moreover, my experience was deepened by attending the Festival ZIVOTA, led by Pastor Adeboye. His profound words and the collective worship experience reminded me of the universality of faith and the beauty of communal worship. The Festival ZIVOTA not only enriched my spiritual journey but also served as a powerful reminder of the bonds shared among believers, transcending cultural differences. Bratislava's charm, coupled with the spiritual nourishment of the festival, left an enduring impression on my heart, making it a destination I wholeheartedly recommend.

Bratislava is such a beautiful city, so much to see and do. We visited the transport museum, Bratislava castle, Blue Church, Botanical Gardens and many others. It is so easy to get around the city as transport is exceptional and inexpensive. Lots of bars and cafes offering everything you need or want. I loved it and would love to return

I went to Bratislava for the food, and I was not disappointed. Unfortunately I chose a holiday period, so many shops were closed and I couldn't stroll around if not for sightseeing, which is highly recommended, and food, again highly recommended. The botanic garden, the Devin Castle, and the very small pharmacy museum, were the highlight of my experience, and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a relaxing time in a beautiful city. Another suggestion is to buy the public transportation ticket for tourists, since it is the best way to move around.

We attended a performance at the Slovak National Theatre, leaving from Vienna and returning the next day. A quick mid-week trip and overnight. First, the performance was top-notch and was a highlight. But we really appreciated the size of Bratislava. We walked and strolled everywhere, enjoyed some interesting shopping and had a wide choice of places to eat (including traditional Slovakian food, but also Mexican tapas or Thai food). We've already done the basic bus tour, which is recommended. You see the town, hear a history, and visit the castle. Our next trip will include some of the special events: particularly wine-tasting or beer-tasting. Bratislava has a good mix of cultural options, interesting restaurants, and a beautiful downtown. Prices (compared to Vienna, for example) make this a bargain.

Bratislavsky hrad is beautiful to walk through, the sights from the castle are also beautiful. The old town was picturesque and very nice to walk through. Blue church is a must see, I saw some pictures before but it was much better up close, it would go great in the hobbit village :) Unfortunatelly, we didn't manage to grab a bite in Bratislava, we encountered a very rude waitress in the Lux Flavour restaurant, she called us stupid and even physically pushed me out of the restaurant, after that we lost our appetite and went our way out of Bratislava, got hot dogs on the gas stop.

Really cosy room with a vibe that went with the whole hotel itself - artsy and very different compared to other hotels in Bratislava! Cheap as well and conveniently next to the train station which, by the way, is not very loud despite being told so. Walk to the old town square is only 15-20 minutes which saves greatly on public transport. Staff were super friendly despite the language barrier but were very helpful showing me the facilities around the hotel. Overall a satisfying, recommendable experience!

The location was perfect as just a 5 minutes walk into the old town which was my favourite part of Bratislava. The bed and pillows are so comfortable and the breakfast delicious. There was something to cater for all guests.Pre Order at the hotel and it's half the cost, so are taxis. Only 19 euro to the airport. Air con in the Room was a godsend in 43' heat. Train and buses run well to visit Vienna. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. They are a credit to the company.

We had an amazing stay at the hotel. Our train was delayed and we reached Bratislava around 1 am. The person at reception waited for us and helped in an easy check in. The room was spacious, the beds were comfortable and bathroom was very clean. The hotel is very centrally located, just outside the Parliament building and 15 mins walk to the old town and the main touristy spots. There is a cafe just outside the hotel for breakfast too. Very affordable price of stay too.

Clean and nice hotel. Breakfast was good and satisfactory with plenty choices. Room (deluxe double) and bathroom size was large. Facilities in the room were satisfactory. The hotel is about 250 meters away from Old Town and 250 meters from bus station Nivy. We arrived to Bratislava by bus and walked to the hotel. On departure, the hotel called a taxi for us (4.5 euro). I would consider the location of the hotel as very good (though it is not in the Old City).

Hotel Saffron is situated a 20 minute walk from the Historic centre of Bratislava in what appears to be a called the Old Town. How do we known this? One night we hired Bolt taxis to take our group of 11 in three cars. All three parties of our group where dropped no more than a two min walk from the hotel despite expecting to be in the Historic area. In reality this suited us fine as we needed an earlier night after a long day in Vienna.
