The apartment is in an old house with thick walls, such as were the family homes of the labour-agricultural Solkan, the former suburb of Gorizia. The homestead included the courtyard and the garden, once meant for work and the production of vegetables, now also for relax. In the garden aromatic herbs and summer vegetables are grown, the Mediterranean seal is given with three olive trees, two tangerines and a lemon tree. The apartment can host up to six persons with a double bed in one room, two single beds in the other and a bed sofa for two in the kitchen’s corner. Bakery, stocked with other food, is just few steps away, larger markets and shopping centres are not far. Quite close to the kayak centre and the adventurous Fun Park. The hosts will be happy to suggest you how to spend the day or night in Solkan and surroundings, even if only in a deck chair under the olive tree in the garden.

Marjetka prefers to cook, Toni, a journalist, to write and speak. Together we conduct culinary workshops, we keep in life and revisit dishes from the folk tradition giving them a more modern touch. We believe in sustainable development, open pastures for livestock, preservation of old plant varieties and animal breeds, we collect wild hops and bear garlic, elderberries and cornelian cherries, spruce's buds and cones from mountain pine. The nature releases, the nature heals, the nature inspires us. We like to share our knowledge with others. Solkan and its inhabitants have always been emotionally linked to the Soča river, paddling or swimming along and across the rapids or just sitting on the banks and looking in the waves of the emerald river. Locals and visitors are also attracted by the hills, criss-crossed with the vestiges of battles and tranches from the World War I, the geographical guards of the Alps. The coolness of the Trnovo forest and the grassy vastness of the plateau Banjšice invite hikers and mountain bikers. Delicious local food can be accompanied by the wines of the two neighbouring wine-growing districts: the Brda and the Vipava valley. Rich cultural offer and the proximity to the casinos in Nova Gorica represent the all year round attraction, while at the same time Solkan can be the starting point for the jump to major cities. Or just for a train ride along Soča, Idrijca and Bača to the heart of the Alps, with a romantic lake of Bled lake in the centre of attention of tourists. The train, running in the other direction, rises on the Karst plateau, the most beautiful when dressed in red autumn colours and mysterious with its underground world, best known for the Postojna cave and olms (proteus).
