We stayed for one week but really could have stayed longer, but a week was enough for us to feel relaxed, enjoy the beach and the surrounding areas. Tavira is a pretty historic town with lots of amenities , great restaurants, bars and cafes with tourists but not tacky! and lots of day trips available. It’s a great walking and cycling area And the beach is truly magnificent. .

Tavira will typically draw those, who seek the architecture, history - it's idyllic and peacefull setting; and the beach second. Tavira has a trainstation,, so you are free to come and go without the hassle of traffic and foreign signs. This town will not attract the crowds who seek the plastic pleasures of Albufeira.

Tavira is 'beautiful' despite the fact that i have noticed it has become a destination place for day trippers and as such i would assume the local economy has reacted to that... Still it would be very selfish to keep such a jewel hidden away wouldn't it... Plenty of nice places to eat and drink on both sides of the river, my favourites are located opposite one another CAFE MIRA for day time and PAUSA restaurant in the evening, both in the same square... My favourite watching the world go by is most definitely 'snack bar ALAGOA' in a little square on the Porta Nova side of the river not that far from the best located 'Irish' pub opposite the bus station... you will struggle to miss either they are usually pretty busy... well worth at least one visit!... A must not miss opportunity also awaits at the strangely named without much kerb appeal at all 'Cantinho do Emigrante' the owner 'I assume he is anyway' doesn't smile a lot, but what he does on his open fired barbecue thingy with chicken, complete with chips and salad is AMAZINGLY delicious!!!

Close to the Spanish border - lovely town - clean - good food outlets - historical - museums - boat trips - beaches are accessed by car travel, or a cheap boat ride to the island - shopping centre within a 25 min walk - train every two hours to Faro and other towns along the Algarve - free parking in public car park or on street - NOTE - Summer can be very busy, but I expect it would be great to go then but parking must be harder - Give this place a go - has night clubs. One the whole a great place for all ages.
The hotel was stunning, beautiful artwork everywhere. Mário was really helpful in providing local food recommendations and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was great, my children loved cake for breakfast!
There was nothing to fault about the hotel at all, the small pool made a great “plunge pool” as it was unsurprisingly not warm in February!
Tavira is a lovely town for exploring this part of Portugal, with Fuzeta and Olhao not far too.
Could not recommend this hotel enough to anyone.
Quinta Almargem Lusitano was very beautiful place to rest. The host and her husband made us feel like part of the family. Impeccably clean and the food was better then we received in many restaurants! Fresh juices each morning from their own grown fruit trees. Fresh egg from the chicken on their farm. A relaxing environment to rest, pool to swim and 5 minute drive to the center of Tavira! The beaches on the strand are very comfortable and renting chase lounges w/ sun shields out of Barrell wee great!
Great location. So much to see and do. Best beaches around Barrill , short taxi ride to bridge to access the beach. (sunbeds quite expensive 19 euros for 2 beds and an umbrella) . Isla de tavira a short walk from the hotel to a ferry 2.2 euros return takes you out to Isla de Tavira. White sandy beach. Boats very assessable and regular. Tavira has some excellent restaurants including some fine dining. Lots going on. Also visited fuzeta beach (short train ride from Tavira station (also on to faro town)
Far and away my best accommodation over the last 2.5 weeks in Portugal
(and I was staying in 4 and 5 star hotels). Picture an old, historical mansion left vacant for decades. The new owners spent 3 years carefully keeping the old "bones" but modernizing it for savvy, contemporary guests and adding a design aesthetic which is bold yet pleasing and comfortable. Add a beautiful pool and deck area, excellent meals, kind and service-oriented owners and staff, and you have an experience to remember.
This hotel was literally a breath of fresh air because of its beautiful rural location. Our room had a small veranda/balcony and overlooked the local olive farms. It was a perfect antidote to 5 days of city touring. They had a pleasant dining room with big picture windows where we had our breakfast. There was also a very nice swimming pool but we didn't have time to use it. The hotel wasn't far from the lovely little town of Tavira with all its restaurants.
The location is close to A22 and a short car drive to the city center. Vinci and his colleagues were among the best we’ve encountered within Portugal. They were always eager to meet every guest’s need with a cordial smile and “Can Do” willingness. We appreciated the large variety of breakfast items and the co-location with the O’Tacho restaurant for lunch and dinner. Hotel Don Rodrigues and it’s many amenities provided a most relaxing 4-day holiday for us.
This is a simple, clean, affordable and well located hotel in the center of beautiful Tavira. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was excellent and offered a lot of variety. The fresh juice was delicious! I requested a room with windows that I could safely leave open at night for the fresh air. They offered me a queen room and it was perfect! I would definitely stay here again.
The hotel was a in great old historic building. Loved the windows that opened up. Our room was very clean. It overlooked the river Gilão and ferry access, if you wanted to go to the beach. Many restaurants were nearby and walkable. The hotel breakfast buffet was decent. Sweet hotel and walkable town with talented street musicians. I'm sure there's more to explore.
We have been travelling around Portugal staying in lots of different places and I can say this was the best by far.
Centrally located, quiet enough though, all the facilities etc etc.
The main thing is the effort put in made it a perfect stay.
There is just enough character to the property that its charming and still functional, a difficult balance usually.
Very nice small hotel, with a good location close to the dock where the ferries go to the island beach. Loved the town of Tavira, so charming, nice walks along the river. Rooms are maybe a little dated but immaculately cleaned. Breakfast was great with good options, outside seating available. Hotel has a restaurant, open for dinner, and it was popular.
This is a compact and well-equipped place benefiting from some private outside space.
The hosts were attentive and friendly.
The location was convenient and local parking was free.
Tavira is a pleasant base from which to explore the lovey Eastern Algarve
We felt we were in authentic Portugal not just some tourist development based in Portugal.
Everything. This place was absolutely perfect. It is a very relaxing location, but also close to great beaches and Tavira. The rooms are very comfortable and well decorated, not to mention clean. Excellent breakfast (especially the orange juice), and last but not least, a very professional and kind staff. This was one of the best stays I ever had.
Away from the main drag but very close to everything (especially an excellent restaurant round the corner). The ferry to the island beaches is near. No need to have a car if all you want to do is go to the beach.
Very nice staff. This is a bed and breakfast rather than a hotel but it a good place to stay in the centre of Tavira.
Comfortable rooms and beds. Clean and fresh. Has a wine cooling fridge in the room. Large bathroom and nice showers that work properly. Beautiful pool terrace with amazing views. Nice accommodating people running the hotel. Good location next to a Pingo Doce. About a 5 minute walk to the Roman Bridge. Reasonable rates.
The staff, the location, the accommodation were all excellent. Our room was spacious, nicely apointed and as good as any luxury hotel. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. The breakfasts were ample and delicious and we were able to eat outside on the lovely patio.
Very pretty, historical property. It was clean, comfortable with a nice bed. Bathroom was spacious and it had a nice little kitchen. It is the most spacious apartment we’ve had in Portugal. Staff is friendly and helpful. Plenty of free parking on premises.
Tavira is a very charming town. The location of the hotel is excellent and a quick walk to the center. The breakfast was fairly good. This hotel is not as rich in decor as others in the group
