We came on the bus from Braga. Actually, there was a one-day strike and we took a taxi. We took the bus back. The bus runs infrequently and you have to buy the ticket on the bus. Once in Geres, if you don't have a car, you can find out about the trails from the tourist info center so you can get into the park. We also opted for a 4 hr tour with Carlos at Lobos Tours and it was worth the $40 to see all the parts of the park and some of the small villages and the waterfalls. He was born and raised there and has alot of knowledge of the area. One bummer of the visit was the Parque de Termas is only open intermittently and was closed when we were there. Apparently this is a problem. If you want a hot spring dip, you need to go to the Spanish border. Not far away, but need transport. It is a nice village overall.

Geres is a unique place where you can see nature in its best, there are so many attractions even on low-session, and plenty of native restaurants along all routes, i have been there for 5/6 years in a row and I am still impressed with the place as you can see my own photographs attached. Rio Caldo on the lower edge of the park is stunning.
Rio Caldo on the lower edge of the park is stunning. Views are amazing. There are plenty of bars and cafes, and a small well stocked supermarket. It has a good public transport network. We hired a kayak twice during our stay with AML.

Don't try to go to Geres for a long weekend, it's not enough time but if that's all you have, then don't miss it! Amazing hiking and quaint villages all around. We chased waterfalls for 3 days and loved it.
The Sao Bento da Porta Aberta Sanctuary was so unique and loved the juxtaposition of the old and new churches. Stunning tiles in the new museum.
We also had a quick stop at the Vilarinho das Furnas dam. We love dams but still cool to see. A short easy walk from the dam is a cute waterfall and a perfect spot for a picnic.
Keep your eyes peeled for wild horses and shepherds with their cows and goats.
The town of Geres itself is small but I really enjoyed a quick stroll around town and found some great artisan shops to get souvenirs.

We had a fantastic time in Geres.
We had a fantastic time in Geres. The staff at Baltazar Hotel were extremely helpful and kind- especially Orlando. We had a challenging and beautiful hike and spent one afternoon with a guide who showed us so much of the park. The food and generosity of the Baltazar staff was wonderful. We would come back for a longer stay next time and recommend to anyone.

Very nice picturesque location, beautiful lake at the bottom...
Very nice picturesque location, beautiful lake at the bottom of the surrounding mountains near the hotel. Hotel was very clean, and big. I was pleasantly surprised. Polite man at the reception when we got there, very attentive and prompt when requests were made. My only advise to anyone checking out in the early hours, e.g. around 03.30am is to allow extra time because there may not be anyone readily available as they will be carrying out other tasks (as the polite lady mentioned when the bell at reception wasnt attended to with the usual promptness). Other than that, extremely wonderful stay
Great location, value for money and comfortable bed. The view is spectacular and very much worth the extra price. The hotel has a very nice outdoor patio/garden as well. Even if your bedroom doesn't have a balcony you can use shared outdoor space.
There are several restaurants and fluvial beaches nearby, you can walk to the essential places.
Bedroom is small but has all the essentials and daily cleaning. The owners are very welcoming.
This was an old fashioned but modern, super clean place to stay. Lots of attention to detail. Room was huge. Air-conditioning worked perfectly, also wifi. The best things were the breakfast, homemade by Dona Maria José, how kind and lovely and helpful the hosts were, the gorgeous fresh water pool (the water everywhere in this region is gold), the spacious extra clean room. Just perfect. Will come back, thoroughly recommend.
i really like that the owners have gone the extra mile to put a fridge freezer in reception for the guests. o have stayed in quite a few hotels in Portugal and none seem to have a small fridge. This is a real help in the hot season. The place is quiet although it’s in town and the views over the river Caldo are amazing. owners are very pleasant too.
The staff is nice, the location is perfect! The room was good and beds comfortable. The view from the room into the mountains. The breakfast buffe quite nice too. The hotel has an open parking area nearby. Really good place to explore Geres Park and enjoy terms baths (3min away).
Really lovely hotel. Large comfortable room. Great view from the balcony. Great breakfast selection. Only a 10 minute walk into town. In a good location to explore the national park. Plenty of car parking. Pool was cold but still a great place to relax with lovely views.
Incredible balcony view of the valley above Geres. A short walk to nearby restaurants. A large kitchen for cooking anything at home. Sweeping night skies with stars that look like they're right in front of you. A short drive / walk to several trails / paths.
The room was very spacious, and very clean, which is my main criteria for rating a room!
The breakfast was amazing with lots of different and quality options!
The view as also very good, straight up to the cathedral and an amazing view on to the mountains!
This is the second time that we have stayed at Hotel Apartamentos Geres Ribeiro and it says it all! The facilities are ideal for what we were looking for. It is not an exceptional place but it ticks all the boxes. Planning to return again!
The view was amazing. The rooms are ok although a bit small. Clean and central if you want to stay in Geres. Good value for money. And the restaurant below the hotel was an extra plus as it is good and cheap!
Quality of the hotel, its accomodation and the room.
Friendly and helpfull staff.
Good restaurant and breakfast.
Location close to the hiking trails.
Proximity of the Sao Bento pilgrimage sanctuary.
The apartment is nice and very clean with a great view and location for exploring Penada-Geres.
Definitely the best of all is the owner Mrs. Rosa, a true example of a welcoming host. Thank you <3
very spacious, lots of room and privacy for a family with teens. Clean, comfortable. Very nice patio. We enjoyed takeaway dinners from restaurants down the hill. Lots of great hikes nearby.
Great location, good views of the mountains, close to the little village centre. Andre was very courteous, polite and very helpful with recommending places to visit in Geres.
We loved it. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. the warmest welcome of our entire trip in Portugal. The unit and grounds were spotless. Great pool!
