Staying at this beautiful house was like staying in the home of a beloved aunt. Marie Jose was a wonderful hostess, showing us around the gorgeous rooms of her husband’s ancestral home. We then had sparkling wine and cookies on the terrace, overlooking the stunning garden and the fields of their working farm. Our bedroom was large and comfortable, with a clean modern bathroom. The very ample breakfast was served in the sunny garden. An absolute pleasure.

The carefully-decorated rooms all feature antique pieces and have access to a private bathroom with free toiletries. The rooms also feature a view. Breakfast is included in the rate and served each morning in the bright meal area. Alternatively, the Guimarães center has a wide range of Portuguese and international restaurants for guests to choose from. The Guimarães historical center features various historical landmarks, the most noted of which is the Castle and the iconic statue of Dom Afonso Henriques, Portugal’s first king. Porto’s International Airport is a 35-minute drive from the Casa do Ribeiro.
