Porto is situated on the valley of the river Douro.
Porto is situated on the valley of the river Douro. The valley is very steep. Porto is very attractive and not only relies on the association with Port and the cellars. The architecture is unique, the cuisine is great and the tourist vibe is excellent.
Well worth a return visit

Porto is my favourite city in the world, and the area of Bonfim, where we stayed, confirmed that for me. It's easy to get from there to just about anywhere, the whole of the inner city seems peppered with great, good, and not-so-good eating places, the views are tremendous and the people - on the whole - very friendly and mostly tolerant of my rather scanty and Lisboan-accented Portuguese. And although the parks we saw were small, there are trees everywhere. Our favourite place for food was a tiny cafeteria called 'Con Amor', but our apartment was next to an Austrian restaurant which was very good. Our stay was far too short!

Open Top Bus. Company called Grayline.
Open Top Bus. Company called Grayline. Ticket covered two different routes and a boat trip. Worth the €28 cost and lasts for 48hrs. Great for walking but has a good Metro line. Avoid Hotels up the top of the hill unless you dont mind walking up steep hills.

A vibrant city offering something for everyone.
A vibrant city offering something for everyone. We thought that Porto was one of the best cities we have visited and we both loved it. It's very easy to get around as the metro and trains are very easy to use. They are also very clean and regular. As we are no longer in the full flush of youth we did find Porto a little hilly but not excessively so. The people are very friendly and helpful and the food ranged from the ubiquitous McDonald to very good Portugese restaurants with every type of food in between. There are also a very good selection of vegetarian and vegan foods and restaurants. Porto is a city that loves it's music - it is everywhere with street artists almost on every corner that made the city feel very alive. We rarely return to a city we have visited but Porto might just change our mind.

Fantastic accommodation with wonderful staff.
Fantastic accommodation with wonderful staff. They were really friendly and helpful. Our tut tut driver was very old and gave us lots of information about Porto. The 6 bridges boat ride was a short affair but enough for my wife who gets sea sick easily. It gave us some idea of the river and it’s bridges.

Where to begin.
Where to begin. This is one of the hotel that exells in all aspects.
My wife having to need to mobile scooter to be able to navigate through the city.
Pedro was weeks on end prior our visit busy to get this arranged. And upon arrival all was perfectly arranged.
No frontdesk here, but a lower desk where the whole present staff greeted us as guests. Made us feel more like coming home then any other hotel we had visited. Informal but yet reserved, friendly and very accomodating.
The room very beautifull and spacious. The bar with very comfy seating. Breakfast and diner lounge... enough breakfast to choose from hot to cold, salty to sweets.
This was most certainly one of the best hotel experiences of a lifetime.
And again a very big thank you to Pedro for helping and assisting us with our query's.
I loved my room! It was like walking into a little oasis. I enjoyed the relaxing area with the sofa and TV with Netflix, the free mini-bar, and the great shutters on the windows that made my room quiet and dark for sleeping and all the special touches that made it like a little apartment away from home. It was all so much more than I expected and will make it my destination whenever I return to Porto. The staff also was super friendly and accommodating. Thank you for making my last days in Portugal and the Camino Portuguese so relaxing!
Wonderfull would be not enough to say! Utopian hotel was a last step of my travel in Portugal. The room was amazing, colorful, very clean and cozy, the large bathroom, coffee corner and many more. I basically did not want to leave! Location!
I would like to mention the kindness of Sandra, she was looking after her guests and was always present for any questions we might have, people like her are truly gem for the Company! Thank you for everything, I will be back for sure.
Amazing location and absolutely adorable apartment. It was a fantastic way to start our 2 weeks in Portugal with us all together instead of in separate hotel rooms. It was super clean, great decor, good sheets, well-equipped and an awesome view. This apartment is smack in the middle of the old part of the city: walkable to shopping restaurants, bridges to Gaia and the staff recommended parking is excellent but pricey. However, once your car is there, leave it and Uber!!
Everything about this hostel is amazing! The price is extremely reasonable and you even get breakfast included! - the best hostel I have ever stayed in.. it feels more like a hotel than a hostel.
The hostel staff are extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming.
I would 10000% recommended this hostel to anyone that’s thinking of visiting Porto, Portugal. It’s located in the middle of the centre near train station, shops, restaurants and the river front!
This Hotel is perfect if you want a quiet and cheap place.
The room and the toilet are really spacious and clean.
Is in a good position, easy to find and you can reach the city canter by walk!
The owner of the Hotel - Miguel - is one of the kindness person I met during all my trip in Portugal.
When we arrive he gave us a little map where he signed some good tips for us and was always available for our need.
Super recommandable !
One of the best hotels we’ve stayed in while in Portugal!
A really well executed new hotel with beautiful details. The staff are all so welcoming, none more so than the bar and restaurant staff who seem to live and breath the hotel and its quirky ethos. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Porto. We didn’t have the breakfast but did have dinner and cocktails and both were amazing.
The staff was always polite, professional and helpful. Installations are good and well maintained. The location is very good if you want to stay outside of the noisy and busy center but still a few minutes away by car/taxi and it has a manageable walking distance.
The hotel has a totally normal, safe and good parking - a rarity in Portugal - and we were given 3 days free of charge.
The staff was very nice and ready to help. We enjoyed very much our stay in this hotel - very clean. It's the best stay we have had ever in Portugal. Near the hotel, we found the best places for the famous Francesinha /Cafe Santiago/ and cachorrinho /Gazela Cachorrinhos/ - you should be prepared to wait in line to get in there. Cafe Magestic is also nearby.
Our favourite stay of our Portugal holiday - the apartment is beautiful inside with an art deco feel to the design. We wanted to stay in the apartment for longer because of its homely and comforting feel. Sitting outside on the balcony showcases how well located the apartment is - it is in the best spot for everything Porto has to offer.
The location was outstanding. It was clean, well-stocked, the breakfast was delicious and the layout was clean, modern and spacious. Very happy - especially for the price. Staff were incredibly nice and responsive to messages. The dinner at the affiliated 1858 restaurant was our best in Porto and possibly all of portugal - definitely go!
The breakfast was quite good but not exeptional. Almost no hotel in Portugal offers natural orange juice although oranges grow everywhere. Hotel Vila Galé is no exception...The beds were very comfortable and the room clean. The Spa area was well maintained and offers a fantastic view from the top of the 19 stories building.
We stayed with 6 family members at Hotel Avantgarde. It is an incredible hotel. Great location, professional and friendly service. The breakfast buffet was wonderful with something for everyone. Their attention to all the details was impeccable. I will definitely return to stay there when I visit Portugal again!
The location is unbelievable. The view of the water is breathtaking and definitely the best feature! Beautiful sunrise and sunset at this location! I love a good view and this really was my favorite place I've stayed at in Portugal. The apartment is cute and furnished nicely.
Great hotel in Porto, so quirky with all of the bumper cars and memorabilia all around the hotel. The reception staff were super friendly and so helpful. Breakfast was really good but the beds weren't the most comfortable during our stay in Portugal.
The facilities were the highest quality in my 3 week journey of Portugal and for the price exceptional. The host was always seeing how l was enjoying Porto which is a nice 👍 thing to do.Very clean very well presented atmosphere.
This was a beautiful apartment. It had wonderful light, was very spacious, and had all the amenities we could ask for. It was much better than any other properties we stayed at in our trip in Portugal.
Receptionist fantastic and in these covid times spent alot of time explaining the portugal rules, Staff always friendly, decent breakfast, nice hotel in a great location to the metro.
It was very spacious. Besides the kitchen area with table and chairs, there was a full size couch. It was the most comfortable room we had in Portugal.
