Rita is a really wonderful host and makes you feel right at home. So even for someone a little more introverted like me I felt comfortable. There are some lovely facilities: the pool, the game/lounge room and the eating area are all really cozy and nice spaces to just hangout and relax. The bedroom was nice and clean and a fan was provided to help with Santarém's heat. I really recommend Avó Rosa Guesthouse as a place to just stay and relax away from the city.

Property info

It was still early in the last century that my great-grandfather took his wife and five children to erect this house. They lived here, married my grandparents, and my mother grew up. Here I learned to climb trees, to distinguish seeds, to pick fireflies, and to fall asleep to the sound of cuckoos. My children also knew the joy of walking barefoot on the ground, eating on the street while the sun goes down. Groves grew, worked a pottery factory. The house grew. He had a mule, a deposit of charcoal, and later, of woods. The Casa da Avó Rosa is a house of memories but, above all, of stories. And they want to count and add every day. Ours but also the one of those who visit us. Join the village in a single space and share the benefits of tourism to preserve the local identity. After all, for each night's sleep we give part of the revenue to the parish for community development. Happy tourists, they are also happy villages!

Neighborhood info

São João da Ribeira is a small village in the municipality of Santarém, with about 800 inhabitants. Already in the time of the Moors and of the Romans was inhabited, still exists today vestiges in good state of conservation like Torre Mourisca, of 1111, or the Roman bridge. It is the birthplace of the poet Ruy Belo, whose house can be visited. Along with cultural trails and stories and legends, it is ideal for hiking - with several marked trails - and given its proximity to numerous tourist attractions - Óbidos, Peniche, Santarém, Salinas de Rio Maior, Serra de Aires and Candeeiros, Alcobaça and Aljubarrota, Lisbon, walks on the Tagus River, Constância, among others, invites you to rest between walks.
