I worked in ChCh in the late fifties (65 yrs ago). It's sad to see the city as it now stands. The earthquake has done alot of damages to buildings and infrastructure. Lots of vacant land within the city are left vacant and undeveloped. A sign that investors are afraid to invest in an earthquake prone area. Its 10 yrs since the earthquake and the Cathedral still in a very poor condition. Very few eating places within walking distance from the Square

Very easy to get around with the tram hop on hop off. Lots of accommodation close to centre.
Great feeling to the city.
Only negative was the overpriced taxi. We were scammed there.
Recommend using the super shuttle and Ubers. Good bus system as well.

I found it nice to stay.
I found it nice to stay. The best meal was upstairs at the market. It was a Chinese dumpling place. The casino had good meals and good prices.
The tram ride was great and well worth doing.
Skie lift was disappointing as you get up to the top the ride down was not working
I think the people are friendly and helpful.

So many things to do and see in ChCh, even just explore the many walking tracks, beach and parks. Some lovely areas with a lively vibe - e.g. Riverside Market, Little High (Eatery), Avon River, Arts Centre, Art Gallery and surrounds.
Too many road works and road cones.

Easy to get around the CBD.
Easy to get around the CBD. HOHO Tram a little expensive but you do hear the commentary which is good. Get a Metro card if you are staying for more than a few days, which can be used to get around the city but also into the suburbs and airport.
New Regent Street lovely for dinner and drinks. Need to book at Francesca's Italian, but worth it.
We loved Paddy McNaughtons as a local Irish Pub for excellent food, drinks and atmosphere.
We ended our coach tour at The Distinction Hotel, Cathedral Square. And wishing to stay on in Christchurch we found Quest Apartments on the www. The apartment had all that we needed
and was very good value. We didn't need a car and we could walk around the square and visit the library, walk to the Botanic Gardens, and the shops, the bus station The location was perfect. We could prepare our own breakfast, morning/afternoon tea and ate our lunch/dinner out.
Fantastic welcome on our arrival, our host was very nice and accomodating. By far the best welcome we had in an bed and breakfast! The hotel is very charming and clean, the breakfast was very nice with fresh products and delicious eggs. It is very close to the centre and right by the art gallery. We will definitely stay here next time we come to Christchurch!
Budget hotel near airport - about 20min walk from room to departure lounge....less if you don't have luggage. Half the walk had covered area. If it rains may be a problem.
Good for early morning flights. Countdown and mall was just next door. The mall had good selection of restaurants (Chinese, Mexican, Burger and Cafe) and fast foods (McD, KFC, Subway)
Beautiful room in this new feeling hotel. Easy walk from the airport for an overnight. We just used the room so no comment on meals etc. Room was clean, beds were amazing and lovely shower/toilet area. Not particularly cheap but worth it for accessability when our plane landed and then to get picked up by our hire car shuttle at the door in the morning
I love this hotel! This was our 2nd stay and it’s my go to hotel in Christchurch because of it amazing location, dwntwn across from the gardens and museum. The 2 bedroom apartments are very spacious, modern, comfortable, quiet and have great views. It’s excellent value for money and there’s a cafe below and a coffee truck outside.
Rick was super helpful and friendly. As we had an afternoon flight out of Christchurch, Rick kept our luggage, picked us up from the city and drove us to the airport for minimal fee. Kitchen has everything needed including a rice cooker and slow cooker. Bus 28 just around corner very convenient as the bus fares are very cheap.
free parking and large room - we had a exec room.
It was very quiet which was surprising for Riccarton Road.
There is a dairy ( corner shop) and thai and chicken places about a minute from the hotel.
Its also near Riccarton Mall and petrol stations and on the airport run.
Super comfy bed, amazing staff from reception, restaurant/bar and shuttle. The restaurant food was incredible, and the service was impeccable. Extremely reasonable price - and conveniently close to the airport. This is my new go to when I travel into Christchurch.
We loved the central position of the hotel. Have never stayed in Christchurch CBD and this was perfect for our one night stay.
A quiet and very comfortable room. We were very kindly upgraded to a queen room which was a bonus!
We chose this hotel because of its location to the airport and because of other reviews. Room was spacious, clean and well appointed. The covered parking is limited, but there is street parking as well.
The service from the staff, the breakfast, the pool, the location, the price, basically everything! I would recommend this hotel and I would book again if I ever go back to Christchurch.
