The Hydro Esplande apartments are beautifully located right on the ocean. Besides the opportunity to sit by the sea there is a rooftop sitting area. There is a well equipped kitchen (unfortunately there is no dishwasher or washer/dryer). The shower has excellent water pressure and has plenty of towels. I loved the towel warmer. The tv works well. Unfortunately the Blu-ray player was not connected and there were no wires for me to do so. Buying one in town was ridiculously high. The dining area and the bedroom have great views. The bed is very comfortable. They have a nice information sheet and have brochures about various attractions in the area. I thoroughly enjoyed Dunedin and this apartment.

Located on the top level of the iconic building, 'The Hydro', this property is set directly opposite Dunedin's popular St Clair Beach. Each of the Hydro Esplanade Apartments features free WiFi, ocean views and access to the rooftop terrace and balcony. The Hydro Esplanade Apartments are a 5-minute drive from the Chisholm Links Golf Club. Portobello Rd, which is the start of the coastal journey to the Otago Peninsula, is a 7-minute drive from the property. All of the spacious, renovated apartments are air-conditioned and offer double-glazed windows, a fully equipped kitchen, quality bed linens and complimentary toiletries. Guests can enjoy a meal at the award-winning on-site Italian restaurant.

Over the past 93 years thousands have enjoyed the Hydro. In the 20’s as the Hydro Grand Hotel, stylish dine and dance parties and weddings at the Hydro Tearooms in the 30’s & 40’s, then courting and chocolate sundaes at the Kandel Light Coffee Lounge during the 60’s and 70’s. We purchased the building in 1985 and opened Hydro Surf, Dunedin’s first surf shop. A major renovation in 2013 of this iconic building included the redevelopment of Esplanade Restaurant by highly regarded New Zealand Restaurateur Katrina Toovey with an award winning interior design by Nat & Emily of Cheshire Architects . The top level flats that had seen many a party were also transformed into these WOW beach front apartments for travelers.
I am the foundering director of a retail and wholesale business - Hydro Surf. Part of my work has involved regular travel around New Zealand so I have taken this experience and added some of those little things that make a difference when you are travelling to the Hydro Esplanade Apartments. I enjoy travelling, tramping, walking, surfing, snowboarding, gardening, good food and the occasional great bottle of wine. I appreciate art and in my spare time I like to make things like felting, knitting, jewellery ..... I enjoy hosting travelling and doing all possible to ensure they have a fabulous time.
The Hydro Esplanade newly spacious apartments are located on Dunedin ‘s premium surf beach at St Clair. Enjoy the all year round holiday atmosphere, meet friendly locals, watch the ever changing ocean and surfers from your dining table. Leisurely walks on the long white sandy beach, fun at the family play ground, swims in the heated salt water pool, coffee at the local cafes and casual dining at the authentic Italian Esplanade Restaurant are all at your door step. The Otago Peninsula, is easily accessed via car and there is a very regular bus service to Dunedin City.
