Manapouri is a very small, lakefront town that has a beautiful view of Lake Manapouri and the mountains beyond. It also has a fantastic cafe/bar/restaurant called The Church, which I thoroughly recommend. However, don't stay at the Manapouri Lakeview Motor Inn if you can avoid it.

Manapouri is a quiet place with few amenities, does have a church pub restaurant which was great, a must visit . And an antique traders shop and cafe and petrol.
Station . The area is very close to the Doubtful
Sound cruise terminal, which has cruises daily into Doubtful
Sound which takes you across lake Manapouri .
The lake is tranquil
And unspoilt with walking and cycling tracks along its shores.

Beautiful part of the country.
Beautiful part of the country. Great day trip with NZ real to Doubtful Sounds. Staff so friendly and informative. Day 2 went to the glow worms cave, shorter trip. A great experience again with NZ real tours. These guys are a great team of young people and made the tours very friendly 10 out of 10. Ate at the Fat Duck 1 night, enjoyed very mouth full, serves was excellent. the ranch the next tonight where you could get a lovely roast meal for $25. In manapouri we visited and wonderful antique store in view street. I purchased a couple of lovely things. Well worth a look and you can spend half an hour there easily. Te anua is the place to stay though not in Manapouri unless you have a boat.
This place was my favourite stay in NZ so far. Henry and the rest of the staff were extremely accommodating. I stayed here as a solo traveler in the dorm, and with another person in the cottage and the budget room all had comfy beds and had all the facilities you needed in their different forms.
Was a fantastic location for Fraser beach, Milford sounds, doubtful sounds and many local walks. Free kayaks too which were easy to use whenever you wanted.
I would definitely recommend and return.
Our stay at Cabot Lodge was one of the highlights of our trip to NZ. It is a magical, idyllic location and our hosts Brad and Breidi and their team welcomed us with kindness and thoughtfulness in their attention to detail. We would definitely go back and stay longer next time we are in NZ! We HIGHLY recommend this most amazing experience at Cabot Lodge!
Cabot Lodge was the best place we stayed during our vacation. It's a peaceful and relaxing retreat surrounded by gorgeous views of neighboring farms. We really loved walking the grounds and getting to know the farm sheep and mini horses. + The dinner was such a treat-- beautifully prepared and so tasty. I can't wait to return during my next visit.
Very nice, if dated in a clean and pleasant manner, river view/fishing enthusiast home. We took a boat tour of Doubtful Sound and walked from our property, via a nearby walkway, to the waterfront on Lake Manapouri from whence the tour commenced. Less than 200 meters. Well appointed kitchen.
Clean and comfortable
Great blackout curtains
Fully equipped house
Easy check-in
Lovely owners
Close to Pearl Harbour (10 min walk) if you are doing Doubtful Sound cruise
Close to The Church Manapouri where you can grab some delicious dinner
GREAT location and view of the lake. It is an older property and bathroom in particular could use some renovation. However it was very clean and the cheaper price offset the age of the property. We were very pleased!
very relaxing stay, many trees, plenty of space for tents or campervans, cozy cabins, very friendly staff
just 25 minutes to walk to the vessel terminal for Doubtful Sound and 20 minutes to drive to Te Anau
Possum Lodge is a delightful base to explore Manapouri - comfortable, cozy and with everything you could need. The staff are friendly, the common areas have a great vibe. We’d happily go back.
The history of the house and the owners was very interesting. The location is fantastic and very handy for the Doubtful Sound cruise. The breakfast was the best we had on our 4 week trip.
The historic aspect of this house. Later on we saw the original pic of the house in the visitor center of Doubtful Sound.
Perfect location to spend the night before an early DS cruise.
Excellent accommodation and very friendly helpful host. Beautiful views and well placed for hiking, cycling, visiting Doubtful Sound and Te Anau. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again
