Flåm is one of the most stunning places I have ever visited.
Flåm is one of the most stunning places I have ever visited. Just postcard perfect everywhere you look.
The first night we had dinner at the Ægir Bryggeripub (Gulinbusti and the Viking Planke). It was probably one of the best meals we have ever had and I would highly recommend booking a dinner at this place, you will not regret it. After dinner, we sat downstairs around the open fire on sheepskin rugs and had a few drinks. The place has a lovely authentic atmosphere and it's a really cosy pub.
We got up early the next morning and got coffee and pastries at the bakery. We also bought some chicken sandwiches for lunch as we were planning a hike.
We took the mountain train (Flamsbana) to Myrdal and then back to a lower stop (Berekvarm)and hiked back to Flåm from here, as there was too much snow at the top to hike from Myrdal.
The hike was wonderful and it was some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen.
We stopped at Drøymehytta (a small hut just off the trail) with a perfect view of Rjoandefossen, cascading over the side of the mountain. We decided this was a perfect spot for lunch and the chicken sandwich we had bought earlier that morning were delicious.
It was an honour to visit Flåm and I hope to go there again at some point in summer when we can rent bikes and cycle down from Myrdal back to Flåm.
If you have means of transport then the Stegastien viewpoint, and Aurlandsvangen, just down the Fjord from Flåm are also definitely worth a visit.

Flam was an amazing location.
Flam was an amazing location. Even though is is set up for mainly tourists to transfer through on their way from Oslo to Bergen , it was a quaint little area with amazing views and hospitality. We were there before the tourist season started , so no cruise ships yet so it felt like we have the place all to ourselves.

We visited in mid March and the views of the snow covered hills was magical. It was very quiet in town as there were no cruise ships in port.
The Flamsbana railway trip was excellent, amazingly scenic and well worth the trip from Australia.
We opted to take the bus to Voss rather than the fjord cruise to Gudvangen due to the weather. The VY bus (VY450) arrived on time and was clean and comfortable. The scenery was lovely - lots of snow and small towns we'd love to come back to.

Flåm was the highlight of Norway for my husband and our 20 and 17yo daughters. It was one of the most beautiful places they have ever seen with their own eyes. Now they just want to go back when it is less cold!
If you are doing the Bergensbana don't go through straight through. Visit Flåm!

Pristine, quiet and very pretty town.
Pristine, quiet and very pretty town. We travelled in January, it was very peaceful. The Fjord cruise was fabulous.
We travelled on the Flam train both ways as in winter the cruise between Flam and Bergen does not run. It’s a definite on my list to travel to. We will be back in summer to see the changes. The Flam Marina has great accommodation with amazing views of the Fjord. Very easy to walk around this little village. With a number of cafes/restaurants to eat at. We had dinner at the Flam Marina Restaurant twice as the food was very good and reasonably priced for Norway.

The train ride into Flam was absolutely stunning in early...
The train ride into Flam was absolutely stunning in early November. Already snow on the ground, but not too cold (around 0 Celsius). Since it was the off-season, the small town wasn't too busy. Highlights included our stay at Freithem Hotel (delicious breakfast buffet), delicious dinner at Aegier micobrewery, baked goods at Flam bakery, and walking along the water front. Everyone we encountered in the town were super friendly and mostly international.
We had quite an enjoyable time in Flåm and at this hotel, and we all wished we could've stayed longer! This was a stopover during our norway in a nutshell tour from Oslo to Bergen. The family room is spacious, with an entirely separate sleeping area for the kids. The rooms are still quite small, but my preteen daughter loved being able to shut the door for some privacy. The restaurant onsite with the beer tasting in the afternoon was great and very tasty on both accounts! Service was also really nice. Highly recommend overall!
Great room, clean and simple (scandi style - far better than in the pictures). Great location 5 min walk from the centre of Flam but glad we stayed here rather than in the centre as it gave a great view of the Fjord. Dinner was included (which I was hesitant about, but as restaurants in Norway are expensive in comparison the the UK, it made the stay great value!) The food was really good as well, traditional modern Norwegian, three courses and we both really enjoyed it - one of our favourite meals in Norway).
The location is very near to Ferry station. The next door of the hotel is bakery shop, behide the hotel there is a supermarket which is very comfortable for us to find something we need. The room is very new , clean and neat. There are also cooking facilities, dish washing machine, vacuum and heaters in bedroom and living area. Ther room is separated by living area , bedroom, kitchen, badroom and little balcony. Our room is named by famous waterfalls in Fram ,Rjoandefossen,.
Breakfast was just ok compared to other hotels we stayed in throughout Norway. The location was excellent. We are in Norway for a whole week. This hotel was two nights. It was the most expensive and definitely not the nicest. I splurged on this hotel and expected luxury fir close to $500 a night. This was not luxury. I was disappointed. If I had paid $250 a night I might be Tsing this hotel better but for the money I paid I was not happy.
the setting is unsurpassed. the staff are incredibly friendly and keep everything clean. the cabin had communal toilets and showers and although there was no running water either the proviso non for clean water was plentiful and considerate to the needs. I loved the ability to look out the window to the unique view and to sit out watching the world and the cloud, pass through the mountains. excellent price for Norway
We stayed 2 nights in two separate rooms and it was one of the best hotels we visited in Norway during our 2-week trip. One of the rooms had a kitchen which we clearly liked more in comparison with the other smaller one without kitchen. We particularly liked the lovely staff enthusiastically answering the phone and the fish soup at the restaurant which we ordered twice in a row. The fish main dish was wonderful as well.
Quiet location and the local piglets that came to say hello. But little else because the quality of the property is so vastly below the scandalous price being charged (gouging during peak holiday period when there is little to no choice if you have to stay in Flåm). Perhaps that is supply and demand but we found later that day that rooms opened up in the best hotel in town for way less than this simple accommodation.
We think we had the best room at the Guest House, however, we didn't go into any of the other rooms. Our view was fantastic! The Guest House is situated in the perfect spot for walking and enjoying all of Flam. We enjoyed conversation with one of the owners - we couldn't have had a better place to enjoy Flam. Also, the guest book was a highlight.
I liked everything about this place. It was a guesthouse but like a boutique hotel and like my home.A very comfy bed, a great kitchen and spacious common area with a breathtaking view made me feel happy and relaxed. The owners keep working really hard to make this place clean and tidy. I highly recommend this place.
The apartment was beautiful with incredible views. This stay was one of the highlights of our trip to Norway. The rainfall shower was perfect, especially with the views of the mountain in the background. Unfortunately it was too cold during our stay but we also loved the deck.
Staff very helpful; came to clean room when I said it was dirty. Easy to find along the riverside. Near the shops, only 13 minute straightforward walk. Away from the millions of tourists. Genuine Norway in Flam! Reasonable kitchen and facilities.
The hosts were incredibly kind and helped us with transportation from Flam to Hareina (short 2.7 miles away). Beautiful view of water fall, sheep and Apple orchards. We’ll laid out cabins with everything you need, including layout and comfy beds!
Lovely host and perfect location where time just easily passes by just listening to the waterfalls and gazing at the wonderful views from the cottage front.
Thank you for kicking off a great start to our Norway road trip!
Loved everything about the apartments -excellent location, spacious apartment, super clean. Friendly service. Couldn’t have asked for more in the amazing town of Flåm.
cozy room with very nice view. one thing to note was the boardwalk along the pier could also lead you to the hotel and is a much easier path than the main road.
