Enjoyed visiting the ruins at Palenque, well worth seeing as they were in more of a tropical setting than some of the ruins we visited around Mexico City and it is still permitted to climb up to the top of some of the ruins. While visiting the ruins it was also possible to take a short jungle walk back down to the entrance. The town of Palenque itself was quite pretty with plenty of places to eat and the people were very friendly and helpful. We also took a trip out to Misal Ha and Agua Azul waterfalls which were interesting and fun as it is possible to swim in these areas.

I didn’t spend much time in the town, I was there for the ruins. Definitely take the tour though the jungle to see the ruins that are still covered with trees. Climb through the ancient Mayan Aqua duct, see the monkeys and try eating some termites. The whole experience in the jungle adds immensely to the site.
My guide was Victor, he speaks Spanish and English, very knowledgeable, well worth the money.

We stayed one night in town to visit the ruins
- had a good coffee
- nice evening walk in the town
- farmacies availeble
The ruins of Palenque was beautifull, due to construction/care-taking we could nog visist al the temples. I was sick at the time, but there were enough toilets on inside and outside the domain.
There is a second part more into the jungle where you can see more wild animals but my body was not up for that. As far as we could understand it does take a tour to do this second part.

You can spend weeks in that region easily, because there are too many beautiful things to visit and do. Waterfalls, Maya ruins, hours and hours of hiking in the jungle is all possible and must do. Palenque and Chiapas state offers lifetime adventures. Can rental is essential as the public transport is not really safe for tourists.

The big attraction for tourists to go to Palenque are the Mayan ruins nearby. The ruins are not that impressive. At the time of our visit, the area you could walk around was restricted to only the large buildings. Every few feet was a vendor selling all the same things as the neighbor vendor. This made it feel so commercialized and distracted from being able to enjoy the atmosphere of the ruins. Tikal blows this place away. The museum was pretty good. The town has a few shady blocks with some excellent restaurants in the tourist district, but the rest of the town is not all that special.
Though the hotel is aimed at travellers with a car as the accommodation is right above the garage, you can easily get to the place without a car. It involves an 800m or 15 min walk through a pastoral landscape to the main road where there are frequent 'cooperative ' busses that will take you to Palenque or the archaeological site for 25 pesos, which I preferred to taking a taxi to and from the hotel. As others have told, the couple running the place are very pleasant together with their 4 year old girl.
That was the best hot shower I've had in 8 months of being in Mexico, with lots of hot water and good water pressure. The bed was super comfortable. The location amazing, Centro but tucked away on the off street with hotels and restaurants where it's quiet with lots of trees and sounds of monkeys and birds. The balcony off the bedroom into the center square was lovely. The pool lounge area with water fall feature very relaxing.
The hotel is beautifully located in the jungle. We could see and hear howler monkeys from the pool. It is very close to the palenque ruins. The staff is very friendly. We were positively surprised by the restaurant, it has a large menu with many international options so we didn’t expect much but all the meals we had were very well done!
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at La Aldea!
1. It's actually a mid-sized Hotel, even if it does not seem it as rooms are scattered in the middle of the jungle, creating a great vibe
2. Rooms are big and clean, it seems they are not that old
3. Close to Palenque ruins and Palenque city, so it's in a strategic position.
The hotel is awesome!
Great value for the money. You are close to the main sites and still living as in the deep jungles.
It is quiet, lots of plans, we even had our own pool! too bad it was cold for swimming, but still, we are happy that stayed in Palenque overnight!
It was the main site for us haha
This place felt like a true oasis in the jungle. I loved it all, the spacious private bungalow, the pool to relax at, the beautiful restaurant with extensive menu, the perfecf Wifi throughout the entire location. This was our perfect place to relax in between our Mexico road trip.
We had an amazing stay at Villas Adriana in Palenque. The hotel is located just outside the village of Palenque right in the jungle.
During the night we even heard monkeys growling!
Our room did not have blinds so we where greeted with the sunrise over the treetops of the jungle!
The pool is a nice extra after hitting the Palenque ruins, and the hotel is right around the corner from a street full of restaurants. Rooms are spacious while a bit noisy at times. Good water pressure in the bathroom and great value.
Reception staff were very friendly and helpful during our stay. It was amazing to be able to stay in the jungle in luxury accommodation. The shower was really hot, which was a first in Mexico! The bed was huge and super comfortable.
We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Kashan Palenque. The staff were exceptionally friendly and went over and above to help us. The facilities are basic but everything works perfectly and the location is great.
The dormitory is clean and comfortable. The hotel is right next to the first entrance of the ruins. You have to pay the colectivo 20 pesos or a taxi 80 pesos from palenque center.
We chose this hotel because of its location opposite the ADO coach station as we had tickets to Villahermosa airport for a midday flight to Mexico city.
The location was great, and the parking was inconvenient, but once we found parking, walking the square and being able to return to the hotel was good.
