Macau is the true east meets west philosophy. Buddhist temples coexist with Baroque churches, peaceful oriental parks are overshadowed by mega-casinos and cobblestone streets are filled with rickshaws.
Hong Kong’s neighbour across the Pearl River strait consists of the mainland that borders the People's Republic of China and 2 major islands joined by the Cotai Strip. Coloane island is a natural wonderland with its mountains and beaches, whereas Taipa includes Macau International Airport and residential suburbs.
The prominent Macau Tower dominates the skyline of this former Portuguese colony and denotes the coming of age of modern-day Macau. It has set the stage for an economic boom with Vegas-style casinos lining the Macau Peninsula waterfront.
Historic sites and cuisine are important factors in this shining tourism star of China. St. Paul’s Cathedral was the largest Catholic church in Asia at the time with its ruins dating back to the 16th century. The fusion of Mediterranean flavours and traditional Chinese cooking methods makes eating out in the capital an unforgettable experience.
You are sure to find a hotel to fit your budget on Booking.com. There are 5-star beachside hotels, business accommodation and mid-range hotels for all types of travellers.

I would recommend to stay at Taipa area, where all the newer casino themed hotels are located. I particularly enjoy viewing the Grand Canal Shoppes inside Venetian Macao. Take a day to sight see St. Paul cathedral ruins, Senado Square and drop by the historical A-Ma temple. Enjoyed overall the good Cantonese and Portuguese cuisines.

The locals you meet are generally a hit or miss - either extremely friendly and hospitable, or terribly fierce. But nevertheless, still a great place to visit and enjoy the cool weather. Definitely explore the Cotai strip and the various light shows/ performances - this can probably keep you entertained and occupied for a couple of days. Take another day for the historical areas and maybe even the older casinos.

In some aspects Macau is an expensive version of China, with some areas looking rather tired and in need of upkeep, but there are plenty of European restaurants and cultural explorations to make it worth at least one visit. The hotels in my opinion are a bit overrated/overpriced, but fun for one visit to see what all the fuss is about (I live in mainland China). The lower prices here make it a good shopping trip for a long weekend break combined with some sightseeing - the Portuguese influenced areas with their narrow winding streets are nice to visit with plenty of small shops and interesting historical links.

It was Christmas when we visited the Ruins of Saint Paul and there was an orchestra to celebrate the event. The place was crowded but we're happy with the experience of walking to the ruins with a lot of free taste on the way.

I know Macau very well having lived there on and off over the years, but it's certainly changed since I last lived there and seems perpetually busy (going by my two visits in 2023). The old-world charm is still evident in Macau (Leal Senado area) and in Taipa Village but as I said, it just seems to be busy at all times, so not really a tranquil experience. I'm not a fan of the big Casinos (and the whole Cotai area), but if you want see some delightful examples of colonial architecture and can out up with the crowds, then Macau is definitely worth a visit. I used to go to Coloane (Has Sa Beach and Fernandos) and Colaone Village in the old days - I would expect they would be less hectic as most of the crowds stay in Macau and Cotai.

Staff were very friendly from when we stepped into the hotel to when we checked out. They did above and beyond to make our stay the most enjoyable. They offered free breakfast, high floors, late check out, butler service, and complimentary fruits and a small gift at the end of our stay. The pool was heated, so even it was 19 degrees and windy, the kids had a great time. We will definitely choose St. Regis Macau when we come again next time.
Helpful and friendly staff, they tried their best to help us arrange the transportation as Taxi are super hard to catch in Macau. Superb room, it was huge, great sea view, amazing bathroom, comfy bed. Breakfast's value was great. A good variety of food for selection (not the widest selections among 5 stars hotels, but given the price, it was great), they got all the good basics, most food choices were tasty.
The staff is super friendly and helpful, which made it the best experience in Macao! The staff is always ready to assist, even predicting your needs. Simply amazing!
The room was very clean with a comfortable bed.
This was my ~10th trip to Macao and my first time in W Hotel, but I'm definitely coming back to enjoy clean swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi.
Good location and beatuiful room. The rest area is the best.
Before my fist trip to MACAU, I was told this was the old generation of famous hotels, however the facilities and decoration are impressing. And the shuttle bus is much conveninet. My friend use the gym every morning and she also gives a positive feedback.
The accommodations were excellent! Everything was perfect. This hotel was amazing. The staff are incredible and welcoming. The rooms are large and clean. The spa, restaurant and pool facilities are beautiful and well maintained. Best hotel we stayed at on our vacation. Definitely recommend and will return.
My purpose of visiting Macau was to see my friends and be close to the sea. Pousada de Coloane is well known in Macau for its long history. Beautiful place surrounded by nature and has been well preserved! Clean and quiet room/promotes eco-friendly hotel/souvenirs from local artists🎉
I loved stay here. Best place and best service. All staff members are friendly and helpful. Especially the bed is comfortable. The bathroom is very big and its very clean. The hotel room was good with all the facilities. Will come back again.

Luxurious and modern hotel room, comfy beds. Staff were very helpful. My mum accidentally left her shirt in the hotel and we only realised after we left Macau. Hotel staff arranged for it to be sent back to our home.
