The interior of the hotel was very nice and the staff was kind. Having a private bathroom and a view out my window was great. I liked that I didn't have to leave to hotel to get food and that they sell bottles of water there too.

Recommend staying in larger hotels. Not easily walkable due to safety concerns and aggressive begging/selling everywhere. We became very ill after eating at two large hotels. Ensure use of only sealed water, even for personal care. Would plan for short stays in the capital, have transportation and activities preplanned. Air quality is very bad due to constant burning of fields. Three of four people in our group were robbed the first day they ventured out to the market nearby. Safety limited ability to explore the area. Traffic is horrible. Bring candy or school supplies if venturing into the countryside, and bring your generous heart, as a little goes very far here.

This is not a wealthy 1st world city, as long as you are happy with that, you will enjoy it.
There is a lot of old culture here, some local, and lots mainly from Colonial times.
Taxis....plenty, but negotiate the price first or you may regret it !. The city is very crowded, so it gets gridlocked easily.
Food...generally street food and smaller restaurants are very cheap, the local rums are to die for, and there are too many to ever try them all.
Bring Lomatil...this is a must.

The price is really reasonable and people and food are nice. Traffic and air condition are awful. It was my first visit to Africa so being there itself was really unusually nice but I think people like clean freaks might hate this city :)

Busy city but there’s not loads to do, a few days is perfect I stayed too long. Restaurants on the other hand were incredible. You do get hassled by people trying to make you buy things but if you’re polite but firm they will leave you alone after they’ve told you everything. It’s a fun place to experience a different market culture but as always beware of pickpockets

Tana shows the (great) poverty of the many, and the wealth...
Tana shows the (great) poverty of the many, and the wealth of the very few. Everywhere you go, the people try to make a living on the street, with little stalls or just a blanket, selling literally everything. Trips of about 5-6 km may take you well over two hours by car/taxi. Walking is not an alternative. The sheer amount of people on the streets during the day is just mind boggling.
Everyone is friendly. They accept visa credit cards for payment. The restaurant has good food. The hotel and restaurant are very clean. The rooms are large with a big bed that was very comfy. The rooms have air-condition and a fan. There is an elevator. Across the street is an ATM. They have parking in front of the hotel. We are planning on staying there again at the end of the trip. It is a very nice clean and safe place to stay near the airport.
Simple hotel with all what you need! Very good restaurant upstairs and nice terrace with overview of Tana. Close to Main Street Avenue de l'Independence and ATM across the street. There are maybe some prostitution going outside in the district, but the Hotel is clean, no cockroaches. Good price for a value of money. I stayed there twice, first on the quarantine and second just before departure from Madagascar.
This was my second stay at Chat-o Park, and I would return again if I find myself needing accommodation near the Ivato airport. The rooms are clean and modern--best shower in Madagascar--and the staff friendly and helpful. This is a great place to relax while waiting for a flight, or to base oneself for Ivato area sightseeing.
The friendly and hospitable reception from the host and the airport shuttle driver. Lots of good dining options on the outer street of the Aparthotel. They had a nice hospitality basket kept for me in the fridge since I had earlier requested for it. Finally, it's a decent, peaceful and quiet family run, no-frills guest house.

Bed was comfortable and room was wide. Also there were many electric contacts where you can load phone, powerbanks etc, which is something special if we compare with other Madagascar hotels/lodges. Personal was friendly and accepted our crazy plans about checking out at night.
The proximity to the market and some of the main attractions in Antananarivo made this guest house very convenient. The staff did everything they could to accommodate me on my stay--such nice people! One night I ate dinner at this guest house and the dinner was amazing!

The hotel is in a great location, you can get to most of the sites or locations in central Antananarivo within a few minutes of walking. The hotel is very clean with polite and pleasant staff and the breakfast is great.
The ambiance created by the massive collection of antiques is truly unique. The fact that the collection was created by buying antiques from locals bringing their pieces to the hotel since 1960, adds to the charm.
We stayed again in Hotel Sakamanga. Every time all the staff was very welcoming and especially the restaurant staff was more than attentive. Special thanks to all for the very good work!
Well appointed room. Great place to relax and stay in bed all day. 2 restaurants in the hotel. Grocery store short walk away. Great breakfast buffet... Way too many options.
The hotel is stunning and the staff is very nice and helpful. The food is delicious too. Rooms are comfy and spacious and the airport pickup is on time and reliable.
Awesome place, very good service, the room were nice, great view, the spa access incredible. The bakery of the hotel was delicious. Highly recommended!
