Small and cozy town, beautiful little main street, very impressive castle ruin with medieval-inspired activities and wonderful nature trails just in reach out of town. The new castle was nice, but not exactly a highlight, but just a few kilometers and easily reachable by car or bus, there is an archeological park with a rebuilt lake "fortress" that is definitely worth a visit.
Highly recommended for a short stay if you like nature and a few calm days away from Rīga, as long as you don't seek for any thrilling excitement.

Visiting the historic downtown of Cesis was a delight.
Visiting the historic downtown of Cesis was a delight. Parked for free near the soccer complex, and walked a few short blocks past the independence memorial into the center. Discovered several shops and a diverse offering of cafes along a few pedestrian streets, and more could be found just outside that area. The medieval Castle tour was a highlight. A self-guided tour was plenty informative, with signs in English where needed. The Tower tour was one of a kind and well worth the time: Ascending and descending the narrow stairways and exploring the rooms with your own hand-held candle-lantern was a unique and memorable experience! The manor house exhibits were interesting, but the highlight was again the tower- climb to the top for a birds-eye view of Cesis and surroundings. Once back on the ground, the Palace gardens were beautiful for a stroll or to sit and enjoy the peacefulness. Smaller park Maija nearby was also peaceful and the black swans in the pond were beautiful to watch. Kayak trip and hiking along the Gauja river are a must do as well. Enough English was spoken to make it an easy place to navigate and get any needed assistance.

Cesis is a lovely, picturesque small town with a well-presented castle and ruins. The local businesses were very friendly, and the restaurants served excellent food. We ate at the Sushi restaurant around the corner from the apartment and the Vanadzins Ziemelu restaurant on the main Riga Road, a few steps from the apartment.

Perfect spot for outdoor activities.
Perfect spot for outdoor activities. Both wintertime and summertime. Beautiful surrounding and friendly people. Many hiking trails nearby. Good ski resorts - both downhill and cross-country. Lovely old city (gets lively in summertime)
This hotel is located near Cesis castle and parks, a great place for wandering around the historic areas. Free parking is available right in front and in a small lot to one side and I didn't have trouble finding a space (early May). Rooms are small, but adequate. I had a twin with a desk and tv overlooking the park. Bathroom was clean. Breakfast was continental with some hot Latvian potato dishes.
I stayed in two different rooms and I enjoyed both rooms. I like the spacious double room for a good price. Check-in and check-out were convenient as you just have a code and can take your key from a box outside the building. The hotel is quiet and nice, except for the time of the city festival in Cesis when the whole city is celebrating.
We loved the Kempings Ozolkalns! The cabin very comfortably accommodated our five family members and was very clean and functional. The location by the Gauja River was very enchanting and we particularly enjoyed swimming there. The proximity of the campground to the amenties of Cesis and the rest of the Gauja Park was also a huge plus!
Stylish and cozy room in the most centre of Cēsis old town. Everything was like in a description. There were even some welcome tea and coffee available <3 .
Beds were very comfortable. The host was very responsive and helped us with everything we needed.
Cleaniness was 10/10 in all areas.
Would stay here again and again :)
Good location - close to the historical center of Cēsis, convenient parking - you can drive directly to the apartment door, each apartment has a table and chairs outside - guests can enjoy nature, the apartment also has a kitchen area and an outdoor grill space. Comfortable accommodation for families with children.
Everything except just one minor point below. Love the location that's within reasonable walking distance to transport, attractions and restaurants. Hotel service was via remote (phone / text) and responses were always very quick. Also loved the space heater that complemented the existing heating fixtures.
Great location and apartment had lot of space. We enjoyed our time in Cesis and staying here. For me personally, since I don’t have bathtub at home, it was challenging to to take shower in bathtub because I am not used to using bathtub. Other than that, everything was wonderful!
The best place in Cesis, super clean and comfortable apartment. has literally everything you need for a short or long stay. Located right in downtown, short walking distance to bus and train station, local farmers markets and grocery stores. Definitely would stay there again.
Fantastic location in the middle of town with beautiful outdoor terrace to enjoy breakfast or dinner at the hotel restaurant or cafe. The staff was always smiley and polite and made us feel very welcome. There is free parking available for hotel guests.
This house is located in heart of Cesis. You can walk to all most famous sightseeing places.
House is very warm and welcoming, perfect for bigger groups or families, it has everything you need for relaxing and comfortable stay.
To explore Cesis this is good place to stay at. But if You go skiing to Zagarkalns then this is the very best where to stay. And breakfast is just excellent - I would compare to breakfast at hotel Ritz in Paris
Perfect location, almost in the heart of Cēsis oldtown. Perfect place to stay with family - a lot of space and beds. Also, car parking is available at the entrance of the apartment.
Great location. The hotel is in the very heart of Cesis old town. Main historical sights and restaurants are very close. Free parking right outside or near by the hotel.
Fully equipped 1 bed room apartment with kitchen and a washing machine. Very happy to have found this place, allowed for a comfortable 1 week stay in Cesis
