Cambodia has successfully dusted itself off from the ravages of war with its colourful capital of Phnom Penh rising from the ashes and sparkling once more. This fascinating city, on the banks of the Mekong River, features exotic markets, cultural jewels and is home to some of the friendliest people on earth.
A visit to the National Museum captures a slice of Cambodia’s ancient Khmer history and art. A different and more recent history suffocates and overwhelms visitors to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the former prison of the Khmer Rouge, and The Killing Fields are a short drive from the capital.
The Royal Palace is a striking centrepiece in the centre of Phnom Penh, and is home to the Emerald Buddha and Silver Pagoda. Not far away is the Cambodian Independence Monument that celebrates Cambodia’s sovereignty.
You can satisfy your hunger pains with delicious French-Indochina-inspired meals at various street stalls or classy restaurants. The riverside area has the Art Deco Central Market for a great bargain and there are a variety of bars, especially near Sisowath Quay.
Take time to walk around the French colonial streets with its mix of slow-moving monks and speedy motorbikes. Booking.com has many hotels located in Daun Penh and Chamkar Mon districts, amongst others.

We really enjoyed our trip to Phnom Penh, we traveled as a family of 6 and had a wonderful local tuk-tuk driver that managed to fit us all in lol that was truly an experience!! He took us to many places and we were able to experience Phnom Penh in a way we didn't expect which was amazing.
We stayed at the Peninsula Phnom Penh which was great value for money and a beautiful place to come back to at the end of the day. The rooftop pool was fantastic and live music was a wonderful bonus.

Loved this city. So much to do and the people are lovely. Great markets, so many things to do. Huge casinos, shops, restaurants, food stalls, so much history to learn. Fantastic. So easy to get around on foot or by tuk tuk. Don’t miss this city.

It's pretty much a business city.
It's pretty much a business city. For something more cultural consider going to Siem Reap. When traveling within any of the cities in Cambodia, I would recommend using "PassApp." It operates much like Bolt which looks at your current GPS location, and asks where you want to go to. You can then select the mode of transportation. The tuktuks in Cambodia have all been modernized, but are quite small compared with Thailand. They can comfortably fit 2 people and a couple of small suitcases in the back. You might fit 3 people at a stretch. If you select "Rickshaw" it's the old style tuktuk which is basically a trailer hooked to a motorcycle. These are much more expansive and can fit 6 people and a couple of good sized suitcases. Otherwise they have standard passenger cars and SUVs available as well. DO NOT engage a driver directly from the street by flagging them down. You WILL get ripped off. If you use the app, the price is fixed and you won't get ripped off. Another thing to watch out for is most cash machines allow you to received US dollars or Camobian Real. If you select USD, you'll probably get a single $100 bill. There are a lot of fake bills floating around and your $100 might get refused. Also, most of the small vendors don't have the change for $100 so you're stuck. My advice is to receive money on Cambodian Real for the most flexibility. The exchange rate fluctuates wildly, so be sure to check daily and be prepared to do the calculations quickly!

Phnom Penh is a bustling Asian city.
Phnom Penh is a bustling Asian city. So much traffic and vibrancy. The city itself is safe. Culturally there's a lot to see and experience. There's a wide variety of hotels to choose from, from budget options to 5 star luxury. Travelling around the city on a tuk tuk is a great experience. You can usually negotiate for the driver to drive you around for the day for around $15. Four people can comfortably fit in one tuk tuk. 5-6 is a squeeze.
Most restaurants serve Asian food on their menus, but over the years more and more western food restaurants are emerging. There's some great cafe's with really good coffee.
Don't drink the tap water, just stick with bottled water.
The markets are great. The most popular being the Central Market and the Russian Market.
Cambodia's history has incredible tragedy in its recent past. There are museums and tourist destinations highliting this history, which for some people can be incredibly overwhelming and upsetting. I would say that it's something everyone should visit, but they are very confronting and some people that I have travelled with took a few days to process what they saw.
One thing that always amazes me that Cambodian people are so friendly and warm in the light of their tragic past.
This is an outstanding hotel! Rooms are large and exquisitely appointed. First high pressured hot shower we had in Cambodia! Bathroom is huge. Bed, linen, pillows all 5 star. Garden surrounds provide a tranquility and coolness needed after a hot day. Breakfast huge even though it’s not a buffet. It’s out of the centre but for us this was a positive. So much quieter and pleasant to walk around but just as many restaurants, cafes and markets.
The staff at the hotel were amazing (special mention to the girls at the restaurant, and the spa, the massage was wonderful), and the room was big, with comfy beds. Breakfast was very tasty, and with a handful of options. Location was very nice, close to Royal Palace, and most of the touristic spots. The view from our terrace was breathtaking. Very recommended hotel to stay in Phnom Penh.
Great hotel in Phnom Penh!
The best thing about the hotel is its location, literally across the street from the Royal Palace.
The room was spacious, clean and modern. Good breakfast with a wide variety of both occidental and asian choices. Very nice common areas, specially the pool area.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for your stay in Cambodia’s capitol.
The hotel is on great location as between night market and Royal palace at riverside. Great accommodation as clean room. Comfortable to stay, kind and helpful staff, in out door with lifted. Ground floor has a beautiful and nice Indian restaurant with large menu of authentic south and north Indian food, love to stay on this hotel. We surely back and recommended.
Pretty good wifi and comfy bed, the room has a TV, a fridge and a kettle. It's quite spacious and located in a close proximity to all the main sightseeing places and points of interest. One more massive advantage that there's a bus company only 50 metres away from the hotel, it's just down the street , over there you can book buses and travel all over Cambodia.
Upgraded on arrival to a beautiful suite, it was so lovely we booked to stay an extra night. A real boutique hotel in a lovely neighbourhood close to the airport. Lovely tranquil atmosphere with a pool surrounded by plants. Breakfast was excellent and served in a great setting. Room facilities were top notch, even included a bottle of wine.
The great location and close to all sights and mall. The staff are very welcome and Hotel manager Mr. Mohsan very attentive to my needs and help arrange everything for my stay. I got good room with balcony great view of city. Absolutely enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Strongly recommend to stay in Phnom Penh.
I enjoyed such a relaxing atmosphere in this hotel. Wonderful design, friendly and professional staff and the the pool on the top is so refreshing for hot weather in Phnom Penh.
I extended my stay here, definitely the best place so far on my 4 week journey.
Nice hotel, we had a two bed apartment which has plenty of space and good facilities. Pool area and gym were fantastic. Nice location slightly out of the city centre, but a vibrant area with nice bars and restaurants.
wonderful renovated house in the center of phnom penh and surrounded by tourist place. Riverside and 2 local market is the best about location. Room is very creative and unqie. staff is very friendly and help ful

You are in the middle of everything.the hotel has a plunge pool and jacuzzi on the roof , perfect to cool down and relax, perfect view of the city.
