The best advice I can give is find where the biggest crowds are massed, all trying to impress deer with the same rice crackers that everyone else is trying to feed them, then pick a direction and walk away from them. There is so much more to the park: primeval forests, ancient stone pathways leading to temples and small villages older than most of our own countries, hidden pockets of lost time. It is hard to explain how it feels to not have another human being in sight, finding yourself passing stone idols carved by people hundreds of years ago, only to see a deer eating moss from the base of said idol that stops chewing to literally bow to you. Of course you bow back and scramble in your bag for some kind of treat to offer your new best friend (I recommend unsalted pretzel sticks, the deer hate plain rice crackers as much as we do at this point) and then having it gently eat from the palm of your hand, before you both again swap polite bows and go on your merry way. Then you hear a crow sing from the ancient forest behind you, and you just know: this is pretty cool.

Nice place, parks, plenty of temples, huge Buddha statues, a little ride by train and you can see the oldest still standing wooden building in the world!
And of course the deer! Feeding the deer with the deer cookies is fun and a little scary as they are quite bold and can pull and push you a bit.
Good food available as well.

There’s a lot to see in Nara but it is quite spread out. Buses are easy to use though. Taxis can get busy - couldn’t get a booking.
There are two amazing restaurants at the bus station.
And there’s a seismic company building that is really interesting, and even has a great view from the top.

Nara is my favorite city in Japan, so far.
Nara is my favorite city in Japan, so far. It’s small but full of charm, it’s got plenty of stores and restaurants, there is a nice community surrounding it.
The national museum, the craft museum, and my favorite the kasugataisha museum. There is a bus #78 that will take you directly here.
It was so close to the JR Nara station! And I completely forgot there was an onsen. The women's area has a special key that's changed daily, so I felt good about it. I loved that there was also ice cream and cream puffs for post-onsen time. The water was so hot and it felt amazing after traveling all day.
I was able to leave my luggage after check out to explore the area and getting it back was easy. For those who order things like wifi, they can be delivered to the hotel.
The location is superb. Less than 5 min from Kintetsu Nara Station. Breakfgast, whether Western or Japanese is very good. Service and friendliness is absolutely tops. The inside Onsen warm bath9is an extra bonus I treas1ure very much. Rooms are "roomy" and in a quiet street. Wifi works fine everywhere. You can order dinner served "in your room" and this is a true experience. I have used this hotel many times over more than 10 years!
The location was amazing!! Though it’s quite far from a station, getting to it is worth it. There are buses that run near the hotel, and taxis at the station. But if you don’t have much luggage it’s a very pleasant walk to the hotel. I loved seeing the deer in the morning! And the staff was just amazing, so helpful in assisting me with my bags, explaining the area, and helping me work out how to get to JR Nara station.
This hotel is very conveniently located near the Nara Station (5 minute walk). It is also a short walk (5-6 minutes) to downtown where there are really nice shops and restaurants. It is also a 15-20 minute walk to Nara Park where there are beautiful shrines and very tame deer wandering around. The breakfast at the hotel very good. It featured both western style food and Japanese food.
Super modern hotel that was still very comfortable to stay at. Loved that we were just a short walk to Nara Park and several other sight seeing spots. Plus close to great restaurants! The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was on the larger side. Check in and out was a very easy process, and staff held our luggage for us after we checked out.
This hotel was very comfortable. The rooms were bigger than most Japanese hotel rooms in this price range and the beds were large and very comfortable. The bathroom was great. The location was very convenient to JR Nara Station.
The on-site onsen was very well equipped and lovely to use. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Excellent location on quiet back street between train station and Nara Park. Easy walking to everything. Staff (via online) were extremely helpful when we asked to stay a third night. Rooms are larger than a hotel and super well laid out and comfortable. We look forward to staying here again in the future.
The views from the room are amazing; you have the pond and the pogada right in front of you. The customer service at the hotel and at the nara center were superb. Big kudos for Urata and Ikuyo who went the extra mile to entertain us with origami and giving us excellent recommendations.
The location is great. You don’t even have to leave the train station as there is an attachment leading to the hotel. The hotel is lovely, staff very friendly and beds very comfortable. Distance to Nara park is not far and there is lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance.
Great location and very clean facilities. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We were able to book 40min private onsen inside the ryokan - amazing! Tea is offered in a lovely box tray in the room. Very quiet location with good restaurants around. 5min walk from the Nara park
the Location couldn't be more convenient if you're only staying for a short while. the hotel is directly connected to nara station.
you can see the trains from your room (luckily you cannot hear them).
Ideal if you're travelling the country by train on a budget.
The room was very quiet and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent, a few minutes walk from one of Nara's main railway stations and close to all the main tourist attractions. And the hotel staff were all very warm, helpful and polite.
Location was fantastic, 2 minute walk to good restaurants and a short distance to walk to Nara Deer park and other locations. The hotel is beautiful and the view from the room was stunning.
Just a fantastic hotel! Staff couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. Perfect location. Nice idea to choose a time for the private onsen on arrival to the hotel.
