On top of the great location, Li is a generous host who made me and my friend feel so welcomed at his guesthouse! He has so many good local recommendations, and also took us on a night tour to see the many sights. The small touches and thoughtful additions to the amenities like free laundry service, make up removal wipes and creams, new toothbrush, access to sanitary pads also made it so ideal for me. I think this is a great place, especially for women travelling like me :)

The location of hostel was great. It was super close to the Ninenzaka. As a result, I could enjoy the early morning and midnight when there was almost no one here. The room is small but all the facilities were lovely and decent. And it is close to the public baths, that was quite a special experience. The hosteller was knowledgeable about the attractions in Kyoto and places nearby. He was so willing to share the scenery and stories behind.

The hospitality of Mr and Mrs. Li was exceptional. We really felt at home in our travels there and well looked-after. It is clean, quiet and comfortable and very much like staying at someone's Japanese home (that is, the stairs are steep, tatami rooms, ofuro/shower downstairs and toilet with toilet slippers, etc.) We really liked the location which made it easy to get around the city of Kyoto. The guesthouse is close to Kiyomizudera and Kiyomizu Gojo subway stop. We recommend getting the optional Japanese breakfast at a nearby restaurant. We would definitely stay here again.

The room was clean and cozy. Location of the guesthouse was also great, easily accessible from the Kyoto Station by bus. The owner was super helpful in giving recommendations and tips. He also took us for a “night trip” around Gion area to see geisha and provided us with plenty of information. It’s been great to have the local show us the area. I don’t think I’ve ever met a host that was so invested and caring about his guests.

This is where you want to be when visiting Kyoto. The hosts were the most amazing, thoughtful and friendly hosts I’ve ever met. You can tell that they put so much thoughts and hard work into looking after the guests and running this guesthouse. They not only recommend local places, but update local events and do tours every day! They regularly check upon you to see where they may help. Their house also offer supplies like skincare and shower products and even cotton pads! As a female solo traveller, I felt so warm and heart touched in here. I normally want to stay at different places if I’m ever visiting a location again, but for Kyoto, I will come back here again.

The owners who run the guest house are outstanding and very helpful It's one block off the main street, so very convenient and close to a subway stop, but not on the noisier big street.! I flew in from Haneda airport and the subway stop is inside the airport. That subway line took me all the way to Hikari guest house without having to figure out transfers in a new system. Then just a few hundred meters walk. Perfect.
