I travelled into Kanazawa on the Thunderbird Express train.
I travelled into Kanazawa on the Thunderbird Express train. The station is modern and attractive and a short walk from all the main attractions. There is the Omicho market, geisha and samurai districts, a 400 year old castle and a modern art museum. Places to eat were plentiful and catered for all tastes. The two main attractions for me were walks along the river which flows through the town and the stunning Kenrokuen gardens.
Everywhere was within easy walking distance and the people were so friendly and welcoming. My lack of Japanese was never a problem.

The Samurai houses, Kenroku-en and the historical center are the best part of the city. Book a couple of days in advance the bus if you plan to visit Shirakawago because they might be fully booked. The inside of the castle is not as nice as I thought.

Kanazawa is a lovely town with one of the most beautiful Japanese gardens in Japan. We came here many times before, love some local cafés like Kakurezato coffee or some nice izakaya like Fuwari. We always stop by the 21st Century Art Museum who curates great contemporary art exhibitions.
We will avoid for sure the Soki hotel on our next visit but can only recommend the Share Hotels Kumu, OMO5 or Hotel Amanek.

Very beautiful old city that reminds of Kyoto but it has it's own charm. The whole city feels like Tokyo from before, maybe 10 - 15 years ago and that is amazing. One of the best city garden's in Japan. The local fish market is probably the best in the country.

I love this hotel, very efficient check in and out with the machine. The staffs are very helpful and friendly (5 stars hospitality). We took the triple bed room, and enjoy our stay there. The location is very close to the market and Higashi Chaya… very recommended !
Sadly we didn’t get a chance to visit the garden/castle because of a rainy day , but other than that we really enjoy Kanazawa.
There’s a shopping mall about 5 minutes walk from the hotel with a great food/supermarket area. It is accessible from an underground crossing at the cross road.

Great location, nearby the station.
Great location, nearby the station. Hotel staff was extremely helpful prior to my stay, giving me direction on how to get to Shirakawago, Iwate. Hotel has a beautiful large lobby by Japan's standards.
A nice and large hotel pretty close to the Kanazawa train station. To reach the hotel you need to walk about 5 minutes from the JR train station in Kanazawa.
The room we were in was quite large compared to the rest of the hotels we stayed at in our trip to Japan.
The staff was very kind and even helped us ship our luggage to the next destination.
The room was large, clean and included everything we needed.
In addition, the staff provided us with a small present because we were celebrating our honeymoon :)
About 7 minutes from the train station, as well as the main buses to travel in and outside of Kanazawa (e.g the bus to Shirakawa-go). Staff are nice and helpful. The hotel is pretty big and overall everything is nice and clean.
Shared bath is great, very spacious and open at very convenient hours, and even at very early/late hours.
Bedroom is in a decent size for one person.
Bed was comfy.
Wi-Fi worked well :)
A few coin laundry machines and dryers at the hotel, they provide free detergent for you to use.
The ryokan si located in one of the most charming area of Kanazawa and is built in al old Japanese building. This makes the experience very unique and authentic.
The room was big and full of amenities. There were two sleeping areas(one with tatami e one with normal bed) the kitchen and a large bathroom. Everything was very clean. We also microwave, a kettle, cooking spot, a washing machine, a coffee maker etc.
We used the limone during the breakfast and it was a very nice experience. Food was nice
Such a great hotel! We really enjoyed our 2 nights at Hotel Torifito, staying in a Family Suite. The room was very spacious for a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 teens), modern and clean. The room had a super view on the 13th floor. Only 4 min walk to Kanazawa Station and a short bus ride to attractions like 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art.
Breakfast was delicious with a mix of Japanese and Western items. Staff were kind and welcoming and the laundry room was great. Would definitely stay again.
This hotel is close to the train station and bus station as well. Everything about this hotel is close to perfect. All the facilities are new, clean and esthetic. The bath is separate from the toilet. The bed was comfortable. Front desk staff, Ayaka, is nice and friendly. She helped us with our luggage when we wanted to tour Kanazawa after check out. Breakfast was a treat- it was varied and mostly healthy. The shampoo, bath soap and conditioner that they offered was quite heavenly.
Absolutely magnificent !!
11/10 !! Beautiful accommodation, clean, the best amenities we have had in Japan (open air Onsen on top floor, as well as indoor; sauna; free bikes; balcony on top floor for relaxation and a cute indoor space also).
Amazing cafe where the meals are around 1500 yen - they are delicious and come with a drink of your choice and salad. Very generously sized meals - really great food !
Best value hotel in Kanazawa !!
We loved The Square Hotel !!
This ryokan is great! The location is in the centre, near most sightseeing spots in Kanazawa and a 15/20 minute easy walk from the train station. The staff doesn’t speak much English but it was easy to communicate nonetheless.
The beds are typical Japanese, so expect to sleep on the floor =) I found it comfortable but not everyone in my group agreed.
We booked our stay with dinner and breakfast, the portions are quite generous and the food is of good quality!
This is one of the best hotels we've stayed at in Japan. Firstly the location is great, within walking distance of Kanazawa Stn, the castle ruins and of course the fish market. The buses came so frequently too. The room itself was so comfy, clean and a little bigger than most Japanese rooms. The walls felt quite thick so we weren't worried about being too loud for our neighbours. Great amenities and free coffee in the lobby.
The best stays we had in this Japan trip. Barely 5 min walk to Kanazawa train station. Staff was very helpful with our form filling for the local luggage delivery service. The lady even called the hotel where we are sending our luggage to, to confirm the details. Coffee and tea station at reception and additional toiletries can be picked up by guests who needed them. Breakfast was a nice variety. Cleanliness is top notch.
Located between the station of Kanazawa and all the sights of Kanazawa. You just have to cross the street to start exploring this city. The room had a washing machine and an microwave. This made the room ideal for our stay in the middle of our trip. The staff helped us with sending our luggage to our next hotel. The breakfast was a good combination of Japanese and Western style.
it’s new and clean, the room was stayed in was very big for Japan standards with seperate bathroom and toilet, with a shower and bath. The room even had massage back and foot equipment you could use. We really liked it, Kanazawa is good for a day or day and a half visit to see tourist attractions and this is a good hotel to do it from.
We stayed two nights at Mitsui Garden Hotel in Kanazawa. The hotel is very well situated, next to a big parc, museums, restaurants and more. Very nice was the Onson on the top floor to relax, especially at sunset or sunrise hours. The breakfast was just amazing. Very well to get known to the variety of Japanese style breakfast.
Very cozy, good location close to the Kanazawa station and the nearby fish market.
The staff is very professional, warm and helpful. Both Chichi and Mizuki were very helpful, gave me recommendations for spots around Kanazawa and helped me book my next hotel in Tokyo when I couldn’t navigate Japanese websites. Thank you both!!
The hotel is located about 5 to 10mins walk to Kanazawa Train Station. Very convenient and accessible. We were staying at level 24th, had a very nice view facing the train station. The room is clean and well equipped with amenities. The room is consider spacious. Love the hotel decoration, feel like in Europe.
Walking distance from Kanazawa station. New modern hotel. Shower/bathtub room was large for Japanese hotel standards. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast was good downstairs in the Italian restaurant. Convenience store right next door.
One of the best hotels we’ve experienced in all of Japan, highly highly recommend this stay in Kanazawa. Free onsen, toiletries, comfort, design, romantic. Location is steps away from the station.
Mitsue Garden Hotel Kanazawa serves a delicious buffet breakfast that is attractive to both Western and Japanese appetites. A bonus: the hotel dining room overlooks a small, but lovely, garden.
The location is very good, as it is close to many tourist attractions in Kanazawa. The room was a decent size for a Japanese business hotel. The staff was helpful and the hotel is very modern.
Since I had my friend lives in Kanazawa, I did not have much time staying at hotel but my room was excellent. I love a tiny garden in my room. Staffs were very kind.
The hotel was more comfy for a budget hotel than I expected. The natural hot spring was amazing, and the hotel is also just a few-minute walk from Kanazawa Station.
