As a person who spent part of her childhood in another part of Japan, and has spent a lifetime travelling the world; I can say with all honesty that Kyoto is my favourite city in the world! I put it before Istanbul, Paris, London, Hong Kong, etc.
Kyoto is a perfect blend of rich traditions and modern playfulness. It is a city for everyone, young and old. I love to run along the Kamo River which cuts through the centre of the city. They have a building ordinance so buildings aren’t too high; the surrounding hills are ever present. It is also a very walkable city! Yet the bus system is easy to adapt to with Google being very accurate where and how to catch a bus, even advising cost. Kyoto is also a foody’s heaven, so much to choose from. I return to Kyoto over and over again because I can never get enough of it. But this trip found me spending 5 weeks trying to live like a local and I never tired of it. I look forward to returning again and again.

Kyoto is a deep cultural city with beautiful mountains...
Kyoto is a deep cultural city with beautiful mountains around, the roads of city is more squarish lay out, a bit easier than the roads in Tokyo. I do like to visit their Temples mostly the world heritages, admire Kinkaku-ji Temple, it is not only the magnificent golden Temple with the reflection in the water, but also the story of this temple and breath-taking view of the gardens around! I also loved Arashiyama area the sceneries and facilities, it is a huge scenic place with temples, gardens, river and mountain, lots of restaurants. It's impossible to look just couple of hours, even spend a day there you will be busy with the things you like to do. Kyoto also easy to take subways, but you need to carefully choose the subway lines. I normally eat just around restaurants nearby the hotel I stay. Next time I go, I will check Good Map first to know exactly the best way to do things.

Kyoto is a manageable size for a three night stay (including a day trip to Nara). The Sky hop on hop off bus provides an easy way to see the many interesting sights such as the Golden Temple and Imperial Palace.
Loved the Geisha and Maiko dance performance at the arts theatre

Kyoto trains were well signed (even in English) just pay attention to renovations and moved gates. Kyoto itself is magnificent. Every view is a photo worthy shot. People everywhere were kind and helpful. Favorite places? Fushimi Inari Shrine, the Miyaki-Odori show (live theatre once a year) canal boat rides.
The staff was very friendly and did their best to meet any request with a more than satisfactory answer.
We truly recommend taking the half-board option as every meal (breakfast or dinner) was as amazing as it was delicious.
The true Ryokan experience also with our futons which were laid down by the staff while we were eating dinner in the hotel restaurant and these futons were put away while we were having breakfast.
Really amazing Ryokan, notwithstanding the short distance from Kyoto Station, Higashi-Honganji temple and its garden.
This hotel was by far the best place we stayed on our trip across South Korea & Japan. It has a relaxing vibe, the rooms are very spacious and if you were travelling as a couple there is more than enough room. It is literally a 2 minute walk from Kyoto Station which links you to the JR lines and all of the other lines. Its a 10 minute uber if you don't want to metro to Fushimi Inari Taisha, Higashiyama & Nishiki Market. All of this and it is soo quiet & enjoy the free drink and livem usic each night.
It was better than we expected. The room was large enough for two people, comfortable beds. I really liked the way from the entrance to the main door - you have the red carpet every day =) Special thanks to the staff, very nice people.
Hot bath (onsen) will help you after long walks, it was one of the best things in this hotel. And the location! Just 10 min walk from the Central Station. To get the center of the city you can use buses or make 25 minutes walk.
Strongly recommended.
This was the best hostel I have ever stayed at (and I've probably stayed at over 5 hostels lol).
The location was very central. 5 min walk to stores, 10 min walk to Gion, 2 to get to Sanjo station.
The elevator goes straight down to Sanjo station.
The location is secure. Mostly accessable by key card.
The facilities are clean and inviting.
The place is very cute!
My sister and I got our own room, and the third bed was used for luggage.
For the price, it was very worth it.
First of all, I liked it that it was just outside one of the metro stations. It was absolutely the best location. The staff was extremely kind and responsive. The room was beautifully equipped, and had a magnificent view of the east side of Kyoto with all its beautiful shrines and temples.
Everything in the room worked beautifully. The hotel century located, and he was easy to reach any of the sites that I had in mind to visit.
An excellent experience overall !
Probably the best thing about this hotel is the level of professionalism of the staff. We felt very welcome and we were served at our beck and call. Upon arriving, we received meal coupons that we could use for breakfast and lunch. The restaurant staff was also very professional ad the food was amazing. The location of the hotel is superb since it's right next to a subway station but also only a 5 minute walk to Karasuma and the Pokémon Center.
Everything. This hotel was perfect and the best hotel I’ve stayed in in Japan. Hotel itself is gorgeous and very very clean. Hotel staff is very very friendly, nice and respectful. Tons of amenities provided, facilities are great (this is the first hotel I’ve stayed where they provided baskets for laundry). Do yourself a favour and stay here if you’re in Kyoto and looking for a place in the city centre close to Kyoto station.
One of the best guesthouse I had stayed in Japan!Everything was perfect. It’s hidden in a very quiet neighborhood but location is really good, because it’s close to subway station, konbini and near Gion.
You can feel the ryokan vibe when it comes to furniture and design. Very comfortable and big beds. Nice balcony. Clean rooms, bathrooms, kitchen. Wi-if works perfectly. You can also make a laundry for free! Affordable price.
you know what, maybe this is the best hotel-apato in kyoto haha
it has everything inside the room.
such as: kitchen, refrigerator, washing machine and even a tv on the bath up!
so basically, i wash everyday.
the air conditioner works very well! it warmth us after go back from traveling.
and also, this hotel is so close to the tofukuji station, 5 minutes walk then you will arrive!
Excellent excellent hotel. The facilities were clean, staff was wonderful. This was the best of the 4 hotels I booked during my trip in Japan. It was close to the main station as well as many other bus and subway stations. In a perfect part of town. Beds were comfy, the room had a lot of natural light, and a large bathroom - something which is quite rare in Japan it seems
The staff of Dhawa Yura were all extremely helpful and friendly--likely the best we have experienced in our many many years of travel both domestic and international. Rooms were spotlessly clean. Beds were very comfortable. The location near the center of town, across from a river, near Gion, and next to a subway was perfect. The hotel restaurant was excellent.
Simply fantastic. The best decision I made so far for this trip. The location is very close to the Kyoto Station. The staffs are super friendly, the breakfast is exquisite to say the least. The room was very clean. I will recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Kyoto
- The location is the best aspect of the hotel - close to lots of temples, Gion district and plenty of restaurants
- The staff are very welcoming and speak good English
- Lights turned off nice and early
- Common area comfortable with projector for films
The best part of the hotel was the location to so many great food places and how close it was to the subway station as well. It was really nice to be able to take a break throughout the day and stop by our hotel to take refuge in the air conditioning.
The staff were all very welcoming and helpful to our needs. They made sure to make our stay comfortable. The location of the hotel offers the best of both worlds of Kyoto. It is near Gion for the historical vibes. It is also near the shopping malls.
Had the basics of a business hotel. Staff could speak limited English but they tried their best. Free bikes and bath. It's very close to Kyoto station and the location was perfect. Room was very clean. Breakfast and coffee were both good.
Great location, amazing amenities, kind staff, and the onsen was so relaxing. The best capsule hotel you could stay at - felt like a 5 star hotel. Just so many thoughtful touches and the staff go above and beyond.
One of the best stays in Japan. Great hotel with ideal location (very close to Kyoto station for day trips). Hotel staff is very nice and rooms are also better sized for Japan. Overall highly recommended!
Luxury hotel, modern Japanese, close to the station, sites, and many restaurants. Great jet bathtub. Great view of river. No outside nice can be heard due to double pane glass
