Often overlooked in favour of its neighbour, Osaka, Kobe is an absolute gem of a city. It has a multitude of attractions, from the port and harbourside parks to the wonderful Nunobiki herb garden and hillside hikes on the other side of the city, to the old foreign merchants houses in Kitano Ijinkan-gai and the Motomachi and Sannomiya entertainment and shopping areas, there's a huge amount to see and do in Kobe. We gorged ourselves on amazing food, saw historic houses, enjoyed walking through nature, enjoyed food markets and took a harbourside tour. Bakery RIKI near our accommodation in Motomachi sold the most amazing pastries and Nankin-machi (Chinatown) had a wonderful, crowded, hectic atmosphere with hundreds of stalls selling cheap, absolutely delicious food. We will definitely visit Kobe again.

The availability of the shuttle bus to Sannomiya was extremely helpful and it ran frequently that we could accomplish what we wanted. The 30th floor dining area was simply wonderful. It had a beautiful view and selection of food and drinks were great.

i travel to kobe for work regularly and usually don't do much sight seeing there; it is easy to find my way around, find restaurants and there is easy access to all sorts of places to visit in the kansai area; once we stayed at the outskirts of kobe, up the mountains, with stunning views of the harbour (private accommodation, sadly gone now) but there are some other nice places to stay in and around the city

Kobe has a long history as a port town.
Kobe has a long history as a port town. If you come to Osaka or Kyoto, you should also visit Kobe. You will feel the atmosphere and characteristics of a sophisticated city that is completely different from these two. Compared to these two cities, Kobe has wider sidewalks and more walkable areas, but the city as a whole is compact and easy to get around. If you stay in Kobe, I highly recommend a hotel with a night view of the port city.

We stayed in Kobe three days during this Japan tour - it was just enough to enjoy the city (Chinatown, the covered market streets, the port area, the 'foreigner's area', and a nice small treck along mount Rokko waterfalls and gardens. Kobe is a medium size city, not overwhelming and easy to visit by foot.
Loved this hostel. The couple that runs this place are amazing people. They were very accommodating and were very patient when I tried to speak some Japanese with them. This place is a good alternative to staying in Osaka, as osaka hotels can be expensive and booked up. If we return to Osaka area, we will 100% stay here again.
Beds are comfortable, very spacious dorms, kitchen has everything you need to cook, and plenty of bathrooms and showers. Enjoyed our stay very much
First time in Japan, the staff was very welcoming and they helped in various situations (lost my bag in a bar and they called it for me to make sure they could wait for me to get there and get it, they printed me a paper full of places where I could have used certain food stamps I received at work, I locked myself out of my room, etc.). Position is top-tier (seven eleven literally next to the hotel), very close to the station too. Check in and check out were super easy!
It was probably the best accommodation (among hostels) I stayed in Japan. It’s squeaky clean, comfy, and very quiet at night. I was very tired after an early flight hustle, but I slept for around 14 hours without interruption. The staff is Japanese but he speaks very good English. He was so friendly and sociable that we also had a small chat about my country that he had visited long ago.
The hotel staff was fantastic, always attentive and willing to help. They made my stay more enjoyable and were a highlight of the experience.
The Club lounge on the 26th floor served breakfast with both Japanese and Western options.
Shukei En, the Chinese restaurant, and it was simply amazing. Despite the restaurant being quiet, the food exceeded my expectations.
Brand new hotel with the highest quality of Japanese hospitality experience. Everything looks great and the bed is very comfortable. All shower amenities are great. Big bath tube with awesome water pressure. WiFi works perfectly. Quiet and nice hotel. Breakfast was delicious and even the coffee quality was surprisingly good.
Very nice hotel. The rooms are quite large for Japan and have a bench by the window, which I thought was great. The bathroom is well equipped. The mattresses are comfortable. The breakfast buffet is quite varied with Asian dishes, fruits, breads, cereals and much more. From the hotel, you can easily explore Kobe on foot.
Location is very close to Sannomiya and close to different restaurants and shops. It is a little hidden away though, but it made it very quiet which was great. Breakfast was good too with both Western and Japanese options. Overall, a good stay if you're coming for a weekend trip.
Very nice breakfast even if the room was busy but with nice views on the city as on the 17th floor. Staff were friendly and welcoming and we had great advice towards restaurants. Very nice and charming Japanese style decoration all around the hotel. Complimentary good mini bar.
Clean hotel. The room I stayed was well laid out. I did not feel cramped like the other hotels I stayed in big cities in Japan that I paid more. I liked the television with a Chromecast, pajamas, and extensive amenities from drip bag coffees (two roast types!) to mouthwash.
The room is Japanese style tatami room with outdoor hot tub on top of stone. Hot tub is considered large and comfortable. It is not onsen for the hot tub
But this hotel does offer private onsen with private change room for 3300yen.
We had a very spacious room. Both the onsens were great. The Japanese Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were outstanding, and worth the stay. We also had a cabin where our 2 girls stayed, and it was super cute.
The hotel is very well located. Excellent transport links to the whole region. Very friendly and helpful staff. Tasty breakfasts incorporating Japanese and European cuisine. Highly recommended hotel.
Spacious room in comparison to other similar hotels we stayed in Japan in the last 2 weeks.
Complimentary breakfast for Japanese, but not much of options for my English partner.
It’s a Japanese style hotel and has gorgeous rooms and service. We spent leisure time there for a whole day and especially wanted to thank the staff for her kindness and help!
Clean, very good facility, good location, friendly staff, good scenery, yummy food nearby and at the hotel, hotel's own Japanese bath,
good price... I will come back!!
