The ancient Etrurian city of Perugia forms a unique and romantic pattern, and is surrounded by green hills. Take the escalators, go up to the Rocca, and admire the panorama of juxtaposed layers of churches and ‘palazzi’ built during thousands of years. Perugia’s Old Town still houses several hotels and restaurants that are centuries old.
The city has a vibrant cultural life and is home to several important institutions, such as the renowned local university, the University for Foreigners, and other institutes. The International Journalism Festival, the Umbria Jazz, and the Eurochocolate Festival are major annual activities. Check the hotel availability in advance if you’re planning to visit Italy and Perugia around those dates.
Don’t miss the remains of the Rocca Paolina fortress and its underground medieval streets. Regarded as one of Italy's best buildings, Palazzo dei Priori encompasses the Collegio del Cambio, Collegio della Mercanzia, and the National Gallery. Trasimeno Lake is 22 km away.
Fontivegge Railway Station is outside the city centre, while San Egidio Airport is 12 km away. Whether you need a 5-star hotel or a historic guest house, check out the deals for Perugia accommodation on Booking.com!
It is a wonderful historic city. Although it is perched on high ground it is very accessible through public escalators in various parts of the city and with a minimetro from the Perugia station right up to the top at a very small price. Very convenient.

Nice , quaint city, the best was not having many tourists like nearby Assisi. many good restaurants to choose from (old city). being perched on a top of a hill , you need to be prepared to walk/climb quite a bit (but worth the effort)

Historic town with many historic buildings.
Historic town with many historic buildings. Easy to travel by mini metro and rail to Assisi. A shuttle bus operates to take visitors up to the old town. Lots of eating facilities and many restaurants. We used Perugia as a base from which we could visit Assisi.

A very picturesque, historical old town with plenty of cafes and restaurants; Uphill climb into the town centre is massively helped by the open air escalators and elevators; driving in the ZTL (very narrow streets) and parking in the centre is an issue (no possibility to book a parking space in advance) - but it may have been due to the increased inflow of tourists during the Umbria Jazz Festival

Perugia is not only a great city in itself but also a great base to explore the wonders of Umbria and even Tuscany. We had a week there and spent three days in the city itself sight seeing and shopping - highlights included the amazing new gallery, practically empty, the amazing Nobile Collegio del Cambio frescoed by Perugino, the medieval aquaduct that you can walk along and of course the Perugina chocolate factory (reached by Bus A from the Bus or train station if you don't have a car.) We also went on day trips to Gubbio, Lake Trasimeno and Spoleto by bus or train. I will be back as there were many other places that I would like to visit and Perugia makes a convenient hub. We also always found welcoming restaurants to eat in the evening and even got quite a few new clothes.

Perugia is historically one of the most important cities in...
Perugia is historically one of the most important cities in Umbria. Sights are well presented, museums and entrance fees are reasonable, mongo attractions are free. Restaurants OK. During the Umbria Jazz festival, the city is quite crowded, but the city is even more colorful.
Very nice & helpful staff (for instance sending directions on where to best park & how to get to the hotel). Very quiet location, just a short walk down from or up to the beautiful city centre. Easily accessible from the Piazzale Umbria Jazz (free parking) where you can take the MiniMetro for €1.50 right up to the old city (15min). From there it is a short walk down to the hotel. The room I had was decently large (as was the bathroom), with a balcony overlooking the small alley.
Great location with just a short walk to the main piazza. The hotel has many good points. The room is comfortable with a very relaxing bed & pillows. The bathroom new & modern. The hotel staff were exceptional and very helpful especially Umberto, thank you for your assistance, nothing was too much trouble. We also enjoyed the breakfast which was a bigger range of choice than we originally thought. Staff were very attentive and friendly. A perfect hotel to stay in Perugia.
A stunning hotel with lovely staff! We felt like we were staying with family - all the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The castle is beautiful and quiet, and there are wonderful views of Perugia all around the gardens. Our room was clean and cozy, with all amenities provided. The restaurant serves great food in a gorgeous setting. We can’t recommend this place enough and hope to be back one day!
The location of the Hotel Fortuna and its historical setting were exceptional. Perugia is a very hilly city; fortunately the hotel is at the very top, just metres from the Piazza Italia and a couple of minutes by foot to the museums, the cathedral, bars and restaurants. Perugia is magical - and the Fortuna was ideally positioned to help us make the most of the magic with little effort. The staff were very helpful, too.
The city center of Perugia is an interesting place with all of the quirks of being a modern city within medieval walls. The Hotel Umbria is part of that charm being hidden within the backstreets of the city center. It is perfectly placed to enjoy the history of Perugia. The staff gave great recommendations on sights and restaurants. Convenient to the train station via the minimetro. Would gladly stay there again.
Family run hotel just a 3 minute walk from the main square (Piazza IV novembre) and Corso Vannucci, in a quiet neighbourhood at night. The hospitality shown by the hoteliers is unparalleled, making you feel at home and ready to offer advice regarding tourist attractions in Perugia and cities nearby. Michele speaks excellent English, which is a bonus. Decent sized room for a couple. Continental breakfast.
Great hotel!!!
The castle is gorgeous. You literally feel like living back in the middle age. Our room was in the tower, first level: amazing view and great interior. Also nice walking around in the garden and in the little swimming pool area.
The hotel is also very well located for daily visits to places such as Assisi and Gubbio
If you stay few nights in Perugia, this hotel is a must ******!
We stayed here as part of our 50th wedding anniversary trip. I let the hotel know in advance and they gave us a lovely room with a view.
Very charming hotel in the pedestrian zone of Perugia. Had a wonderful dinner nearby with fabulous local Sagrantino wine from Montefalco. The breakfast was excellent. The staff was warm and welcoming. We’d definitely stay there again.
Nice and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Big room and big bathroom. Hotel close to some local bus stations to and from train station. Hotel close to the bus station of Perugia, convenient if you want to go by bus to Assisi and Gubbio, for example. Hotel close to the escalators that take you to the old center in less than 10 minutes.
A very comfortable hotel with cheerful, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast and a great view from our room. Stayed there 7 nights, using the train to visit Assisi, Spoleto and (with the aid of a taxi connection) Montefalco. We could also have used it to visit Arezzo. Perugia itself occupied two days .
Stayed at about 10 different places on Italy this trip and this could be the most enjoyable. Spacious accommodation. It seemed the definition of villa living. Generous spaces, beautiful view, well-equipped kitchen, lovely bedroom with fireplace nook. "She said she felt like a princess here."
Great walkable location.
We were disappointed we had to pay 30 Euros to park which increased the cost of our stay.
Breakfast was wonderful!
Room clean , staff very nice.
Would recommend you don’t try to drive a car here. It’s on the ZTL zone as you approach hotel, very confusing!
good value for the price.
small room but clean, comfy bed, nice bathroom with rain shower. AC worked great. first room unfortunately smelled of smoke (even through hotel is supposedly non smoking) and staff gave me a different room which was fine.
Nice authentic hotel at a perfect location for visiting Perugia. Rooms are a little dark due to blends(could only open one). Staff is very helpful especially with the parking and the terras is well suited for a breakfast or an afternoon drink
A wonderful host has designed and created a beautiful, comfortable and extremely well appointed apartment. The location is tranquil and close to the mini metro and has private parking. We will always stay here when we return to Perugia.
Perfect location in Perugia and whilst we didn’t meet Nicola he was readily available and answered our texts very promptly. Over the years we have rented many apartments in various parts of Italy and highly recommend this flat.
Great hotel near Perugia. It is clean, nice and the staff is very caring. Room was perfect for 4. Pool area is great. Breakfast was fantastic ! Best we had in a hotel in Italy during our roadtrip. Would certainly go back.
Optimal location - very central. A lot of character in the hotel. Free parking pass available. Decent italian breakfast. Easy check-in and check-out. Friendly staff gave tips on what to see in the city.
