Near the Slovenian border, Trieste combines the waterside setting of Venice with the elegance of Vienna. The Habsburgs ruled here for over 500 years and built Miramare Castle on a rocky outcrop to the northwest. Their other influences include stately Piazza Unità d’Italia, looking out to sea and spectacularly lit at night.
But this is just a glimpse into Trieste's long and fascinating history. The 1st-century Riccardo Arch hides in a narrow street, and part-way up the hills behind the city center are Roman theater remains, with columns from the Roman forum standing next to San Giusto castle and cathedral.
The most photographed church is Sant’Antonio Nuovo, overlooking a boat-lined canal. The nearby Stock Exchange has a colonnaded façade and its square hosts some of the city’s shops. The most popular cultural attraction is the Revoltella Museum of modern art, while more sobering is Risiera di San Sabba, a former concentration camp near the Palatrieste and Nereo Rocco sports stadiums.
Water sports include windsurfing and kitesurfing from the port which is an important coffee importer. Unsurprisingly, the city’s Viennese-style coffeehouses serve top-quality brews, and the best is reportedly Caffè San Marco, once frequented by famous authors.
Booking.com’s Trieste accommodations include hotels with pools, cheap apartments by the station and B&Bs near Ronchi dei Legionari Airport.

Trieste is fantastic, very walkable, stunning architecture, good shopping, and plenty of excellent places to wine and dine. Public transport is very accessible for anyone wanting a day trip, perhaps if the weather is not cooperating, and it's very easy to hop on the train to visit Venice for a few hours, or to take a bus trip to Slovenia for the day. Trieste is very high on my list of places to return to as often as possible.

Trieste is gorgeous and it`s worth visiting.
Trieste is gorgeous and it`s worth visiting. There are loads to see in the area and you can also visit Croatia, Slovenia, as they are very close. It is easy to go from A to B with public transport (although I found the ticket system far too overcomplicated and be prepared that unless you speak / read Italian you will be a bit lost). Driving is not really recommended for inexperienced drivers as the roads are super steep and most of them are narrow. I would not visit the city with small kids in a buggy, because it can be very frustrating to push a buggy on these narrow / steep streets, but if your kids are older than 6-8 and can walk a lot, it is a great area to explore.

A beautiful coastal city, with fantastic facades and beautiful promenades and squares. Close to good beaches and places worth visiting. An excellent starting point for visiting Venice, Istria, Slovenia... Excellent food in restaurants, which are very affordable (20-50 EUR per person). House wines cost 7 EUR for half a liter, and they are excellent. Extremely well stocked stores.

The host provided us with unforgettable experiences by sharing family stories and showing us the farm via ancient trails. The area is very unique and we loved the quietness of the countryside. There is short distance to the best Osmizas to eat and experience the local culture of the small towns.
It is a short distance by car to the supermarket, Trieste, Duino and nearby sights. The kitchen was fully equipped for cooking and fridge. The room was spacious and comfortable. The beds were comfortable too despite being two twin beds together.
A beautiful and charming space in an excellent location. We were only here for one night, but greatly enjoyed our stay. The room was very cosy and comfortable. It was great to have air conditioning, electric kettle and a refrigerator. It had a great view of the city. The host was very helpful with giving us directions. Bus number 20 and 21 brought us to the spot from Trieste Centrale. We visited the San Guisto castle which is about a 15 minute walk. Did not have time to explore further, but definitely hope to be back and stay here again.
There were fantastic dinners in hotel restaurant. They were very good end of the day, we recommend. Salad was always fresh. First course and main course were very tasty (me and my wife mention first dinner with excellent vegetable soup and excellent gulas and chicken).
Location of hotel is very good (highway is just few minutes from hotel), no city noise.
Parking for free with enough space.
Staff was very friendly, very helpful, we felt like at home.
Loved our stay 5 night stay here! the view from the rooms is spectacular. staff attentive. spa treatments top notch. both of our dinners at the hotel restaurant were delicious. hotel is much bigger then what appears on photos but still felt intimate and cozy. lobby very comfortable for a drink at end of day and deck is great for watching the sunset. can’t recommend it enough. we’ll be back in warmer months!
A fabulous hotel walking distance to everything you’ll want to see in Trieste. Friendly staff. Great value for such a nice boutique hotel.
The suite was spacious and well designed. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was quiet and effective.
Having a washing machine in the apartment was also excellent as we had been travelling for several weeks at that point.
Trieste is a bit expensive but this pension is a good value. It is clean, very well located and the staff are wonderful. There are nice plants and the rooms are very nice. The location is very good, near the famous sights and the train station. English spoken and that is a surprise for Italy. The pension is also just above the best gelato place in the city.
Location is great, right in the heart of Trieste. There's a nice bar around the corner but also breakfast is served, both continental and Italian style on demand. Overall the location looks very prestigious, it's cosy, welcoming and offers elements of design that makes it look more like a luxury apartment than a traditional hotel, and this makes it special.
A comfortable hotel , a friendly and helpful welcome by staff, not too far to walk into the centre of Trieste, very close to the train station and the long term car park at Saba Silos. Good breakfast and on-site snack facilities. Good air-conditioning.
Excellent gelati shop a block away. Easy to get to by car and space to unload baggage.
This was my third stay in this hotel, so that tells quite enough about my impression of Hotel Miramare. It is situated on the outskirts of Triest, but at the seaside and it is very easy to find. Free parking. Very good, abundant breakfast of the buffet type. Very kind and pleasant welcome coctail.
Beautiful and spacious room. Very quiet even it faces the street. Convenient location to walk around (and a great bakery nearby!). The decor is unique and feels luxury. The best part is the king size bed. Big and comfy. We slept really well.
Location was perfect and the room was comfortable, spacious, nicely decorated and clean.
Hotel staff was very attentive and helpful to our needs. Definitely to-go place if visiting Trieste.
