FAQs about hotels in Genoa

Ship Shape and Fancy Free

Right on the Ligurian coast, Genoa features Europe’s largest historic quarter and Italy’s largest seaport. As the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.

By the old port (Porto Antico), there are several bars and restaurants serving the local specialty, pesto. Other Genoese favorites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade, Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighborhood, where colorful boats bob up and down.

The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.

South is the historic quarter with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.

As you approach Genova Airport, look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the "Superb City." Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodations, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

Genova is a beautiful old city with many gorgeous palazzos, churches and interesting streets. The harbour has many ships, historical landmarks and an aquarium. There are restaurants to suit every diner and pocket, from endless street cafes selling pizza and pastries to superb fine dining restaurants offering wonderful seasonal specialties. Great shopping too.

    A beautiful ancient city.

A beautiful ancient city. We visit the Aquarium and the lighthouse and walked in the city. The architecture is interesting and nice building and decorations could be find at any corner. It is a very good place to stop for a day or two while traveling in north Italy. Better to arrive when the weather is good and the view is clear.

    Beautiful city.

Beautiful city. So many twists and turns through small alleyways. Felt magical. Great food scene. Felt like a local. Great small city vibe. Il genovese was our best dinner— very reasonable for a nice dinner. T/terra was a great cheap dinner find! Enjoyably food and 7 dollar pastas! We took a day trip to cinque Terre which was very easy by train. Unfortunately the hiking paths were closed for actual race. In town, we enjoyed the old city sites and the aquarium. Getting around was easy— download the transportation app and you can buy tickets on your phone! Machine tickets were often broken.

Parking was a bit challenging but the town is very large but beautiful. There was a good presence of police officers which was wonderful. They all seemed professional. The lunar park was was enjoyed by the children. The staff there where friendly and the rides seemed well maintained. The staff at the aquarium took time to explain and answer any questions. The aquarium was clean and the exhibits where well placed and planned offering both English and Italian descriptions of animals and sea life. Greatly appreciated by the only limited Italian speaker. The food in the aquarium though understandable limited was above my expectations.

    Beautiful city.

Beautiful city. I went on a whim, because of a cheap Ryanair flight, and I am very happy I did! Small enough to travel around easily, and walk to most, if not all, the attractions, great food, very welcoming people, and a very intersting history. A relatively unknown gem.

I recently visited Genoa, and I must admit that I was disappointed with the city's cleanliness. The pedestrian streets emitted an unpleasant odor of urine, which negatively impacted my walks. After only two days of staying, I was eagerly looking forward to leaving as soon as possible. The only thing I liked was the aquarium. Certainly, I will not choose to visit this city again in the future.

Davide is an excellent host who really takes good care about the apartment. Apartment is in a great condition, very clean and has everything we needed. Communication with Davide was very easy, he speaks good English (not so common in Italy) and we agreed on everything over Whatsapp very efficiently. The location is superb, it's a very beautiful walk to the train station via passegiata along the sea. Supermarket is located about 15 min walk. We did not use the beaches nearby, but it's literally 1 min walk from the apartment.

Grand Hotel Savoia is a trip back in time. It is a hotel offering the comfort, service, and elegance of a bygone era. Yet, it has all the modern conveniences one would expect. The rooms are large and the huge bathroom is first class. The big sink with expansive stone counter space on either side is pure luxury. The bed was also wonderfully comfortable. We found the staff to be friendly, patient, and helpful. It was a super value.

The hotel is a treasure: ideal location right in the centre of Genoa. It is, in the best sense, old school. The room was quiet and calm, not too big and not too small. I used the shared bathroom, but there was a basin and a bidet in the room. At this very reasonable price it was a bargain. And the hosts were friendly and easy-going. Just a pensione/hotel as you found in Italy in the old days.

Nothing. It was dreadful. We left and checked into an hotel in the center beside the station. It's unacceptable that accommodation like this is being offered via the booking. com platform, no matter how cheap it was. Nowhere in the description did it say the apartment had a resident family that you had the share toilet and shower with.

I loved that the hotel is on the beach, literally, there is about a 20m distance from the wall to the water, absolutely smashing, I snorkeled for hours, the rocks behind the hotel are full of fish and there are quite a few species. I liked the feel of the hotel, it looks great inside, the staff were great and happy to help. Thank you !
